This shelf was perfect for my living room. I was able to assemble it fairly easily. I did have to file down one of the attached pegs on a certain piece, but it's sturdy and stylish against the wall and is pretty much just what I was looking for!Read More
So, this is not nearly as dark of a cherry as pictured. The cherry in person is more traditional and I was very disappointed that it didn't go with all of my other mahogany cherry pieces. I knew it'd be lighter than that shade of cherry, but its not even close. Also, its put together very cheaply and isn't really meant to hold anything. I loaded it up with books on the bottom two layers and where it joins it slightly bends.... The manufacturers should use bolts or something much stronger to join the top to the bottom piece to make it more stable. If I move again, I'll definitely put it in the garbage. I didn't want to send it back because of all the hassle that'd be, so I'll deal with it while I'm here.Read More
This piece looks great in my home and is a stylish storage solution. My leaning shelf displays my photos, figurines, decor, books and awards. I have several and I love them.Read More
Be prepared that the color of the product is a lighter yellowish red, not the deeper satisfying red in the picture. The material appears to be solid stained wood, but at the same time the execution is very straight, without any finishing touches like rounded edges etc. Overall, not bad but falls short of expectations. Mine will have to be stripped of lacquer and re-stained in the color I want, but I'm not returning it.Read More
As I took it out of the box, I noticed the stain was unevenly applied and looked like a rush job. Then, the supporting rails came in pieces, making it an even more CHEAP product -- they would not line up perfectly so not to be noticed that they were two pieces. Then, after about 15 minutes of putting it all together, it just looked Cheap against the wall. Didn't try to put books on it as I started taking it down immediately. But, not sure it was sturdy enough to hold books. Very disappointing as I have ordered many things from Overstock over the years. This is the FIRST return I have ever had to do.Read More
Even though I was scared to order this item sight unseen. I was very pleased with everything about it. The time it took to assemble, the finishing product and that it only took one person (me) to assemble. The only thing that I did do extra is to use some wood glue. The package comes with wood paste but I choose to use some wood glue that I had and I am very SATISFIED with the end product. I love it so much that I sit and just stare at it like it's going to run away...LOL, if I had enough room for two I would have bought another one. Even the turn around time was fashionable and right on point. KUDOS Overstock.comRead More
This is my first purchase from Overstock.com, and unfortunately it will probably be my last. While I had no problems assembling the bookshelf, it cannot comfortably hold actual *books*. Nothing heavy, mind you. Just trade paperbacks and the occasional hardcover. If I'd hoped to use this as a display shelf for lightweight knick-knacks, it would have been perfect. But the quality of the product doesn't allow it to serve its intended purpose with me fearing for its inevitable crash. I couldn't bear to disassemble it and send it back. I've just chalked it up to lessons learned--sometimes a bargain is no such thing.Read More

They quickly convert into china cabinets, media organizers or shoe storage. Whatever the case, the right bookcase goes miles toward making your home into the haven it should be.
How to Organize Your DVDs

If you've ever spent almost as much time searching for a movie as you have watching it, then it's probably time for you to organize your DVDs. Some attractive media bookshelves can be a great place to start.

TV Stand Buying Guide
Lately, television consoles, stands and storage racks have been exhibiting updated designs, sporting storage for your media essentials in models that are tastefully coordinated to the rest of your living room furniture. Compact TV stands and corner TV stands are convenient in smaller apartments, dorm rooms and offices, but even large homes can benefit from the clean look and discreet presence of a television stand. As more people upgrade to lean flat-panel televisions, they are seeing that the smaller size of a TV stand is all they need. The furniture industry usually reserves the term "entertainment center" for the largest TV furniture, big enough for the television, a cadre of audio or video components and a full CD-DVD collection. TV stands tend to be smaller than full entertainment centers while still having enough shelves for a few components and some media storage. For smaller homes or for smaller rooms in larger homes a stand may be all the TV furniture you need.
Best Bookshelf Materials
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy.
