Let me start by saying that these are heavy, well made curtains which block all light coming in. What I can't understand is why such quality construction is used along with polyester "velvet". While the fabric is heavy, it's still not velvet, and it doesn't look like velvet even from a distance. The fabric is microfiber, pure and simple. I suppose if you were to look at it with your eyes half crossed you might get "flannel", but unless you've never seen true cotton velvet you're not going to be fooled. I decided to keep them only because I cannot find true velvet blackout curtains, and while looking I was willing to pay a lot more. Also, this may just be color preference, but when hung in shadow (no direct light) these look almost black, it's only when light (lamp or sun) hits them do you see the blue.
