My fiance and I ordered two of these desks for our office. What the other reviewers said about the difficulty of putting this desk together is true. I was prepared for some difficulty as I always read the reviews before hand but figured I could handle it. I suggest putting 5/6/7 together first and leaving the other parts loose so you can fit the pieces onto the outsides then lift the whole desk down onto the top of the desk (the top of the desk being on the floor and you building upside down). The directions are only pictures and holes sometimes don't match up with where the screws are supposed to go. We did have to drill a few holes ourselves in the end. We opened the package and saw the instructions said 45 min assembly time. I am hands on and good with tools whereas he doesn't care to do handy work but was obligatory enough to help with the assembly. The desk definitely takes two people to maneuver holding one piece, while tightening another properly. Assembling parts 5/6/7 was the most difficult. Its a very pretty desk and looks great in our office but the first desk we put together took us 5 hours. The second desk was cake after that (took about 2 hours) as we knew where all the difficult parts were going to be and could A) brew more espresso and B) use the alternate ways we discovered putting together desk numero uno to actually make the desk fit. My pullout drawer is a little tight because of the screw holes not being drilled completely straight and the drawer hits the top of one of the screws but it still closes.
First off, the desk comes in three boxes - UPS sent one box to NJ instead of AZ so we had to wait to assemble it. Once here, we found that pieces 5 and 6 were very difficult to attach to piece 7. If you buy this desk, I recommend putting 5 onto 2 and 6 onto 3 before putting 5 and 6 onto 7. Also, the little cart is a bear to put together. It's hard to try and reach into the corners to lock down the screws. However, once it is put together, it is a good-looking, heavy desk.
As stated by most this desk is beautiful but very difficult to put together. Also, we found the desk to site rather low and added castors to raise it to a height comfortable for a 5'11 male.

Love this desk! The size, color, etc. are perfect. I use the CPU storage unit for a bedside table and it looks great. My husband put the whole desk together in about an hour but he is really handy (I warned him of the problems previous reviewers had). This is one of my best on-line purchases--you can't beat the price. I am going to have some glass cut to place on top of the desk and cart so it will stay looking great.
I liked this desk so much this is the second one I bought. I have one at home and one in my work office. The only downfall is when you are putting it together there is one piece that is not long enough for it to fit in like is supposed to in the directions. Other than that I am very satisfied with my purchase.
I am experienced at assembling furniture. For this, I needed to get out my power drill to make holes that weren't there and to complete incomplete holes. I needed to buy Gorilla glue because one critical bolt would not reach where it needed to. After spending a full day assembling all the parts, the top of the desk would not fit on the frame. The screws and dowels would not fit onto the holes on the frame. Some parts are not tight and cannot be tightened. It scratches easily. Like other reviewers noted, it is redder than appears in the picture. If it all worked, it would look nice and have good space and a large surface area.
I love this desk. At first I thought I was missing parts but all parts were there and was fairly easy to put together. The desk is sturdy and looks great!
Love the desk! I've now owned it for a few months now and am very happy with it. It wasn't easy to put together, but it turned out fine. I Don't use the keyboard tray as it's kind of low, but the desk is great looking and has a nice work space.
What the other reviewers said about the difficulty of putting this desk together is true. The directions are only pictures and holes don't match up with where screw, etc are supposed to go. The connector piece that connects 5, 6. and 7 was too short so we had to glue the pieces together. We did ask Overstock to send a different piece thinking that the wrong part was packed, but they sent us the wrong part and we didn't want to wait any longer. The manufacturer of this desk is some unnamed Chinese company, so I wasn't even able to find a website where we could purchase a piece. I don't think it's worth the money. I am using this desk to replace a Sauder desk that I purchased ten years ago and that thing was hard to take apart. Right now I am just so happy to have the desk finally together I don't really care what it looks like. I don't think it will last as long as the 10 year old Sauder desk I bought for $100. My favorite feature of the desk is rolling cart for CPU and printer. I have it sitting next to the desk and it provides that much more surface area for the desk. I also like the shape and lines of the desk. The veneer is paper thin, so be careful when putting it together.
We purchased this desk for our average sized home office mainly because of the desks large surface size; at 55" the desk top offers plenty of room for your monitor, speakers, mail tray, etc. The desks large drawers is great and the pull out keyboard tray is a very nice feature. The CPU cart is great; we've placed ours to the left of the desk and put our printer on top of the cart. This desk is sturdy, modern, and a great value for the money spent. As for ease of assemly...let's just call the assembly a two person job. We found the assembly instructions easy to follow but at times you needed two sets of hands so make sure you have an assembly helper available. This is our first assembly required furniture purchase from Overstock.com and we were pleasantly surprised at the craftmanship of the desk and the value we feel we received for our money spent.
I think this desk looks great and it's certainly a good price, but I had to write a review just because it was SO hard to assemble. The directions are vague so it took us hours. The wood was supposed to be marked with spots indicating where to drill the holes, but they were impossible to see. At one point I was ready to give up!I'm glad I stuck to it, and I do like the desk a lot now - I think it looks great. But if you are a novice at putting furniture together, consider yourself warned!
I love the modern look and style of the desk. Assembly was not easy. Parts 5/6/7 was difficult to assemble. I would recommend this to a friend.
Great functional desk for cheap! The desk was a little hard to put together, but over all its worth it. Note: the dark brown color has a tinge of burgundy.
