This is a trundle bed. It is meant to go under another twin size bed. It is not meant to be a stand alone unit. The mattress I would recommend would depend on whether you are using it as a trundle bed. If you are, the mattress can only be a few inches deep and would not be the best for a bad back. Is the bottom solid or spring/wire like a cot? I am looking for something to put a memory foam topper on so it has to be a solid not slated/wire/spring surface. biteysmom on Oct 4, 2012
