  • poor choice of lawnmower

We replaced an aged gas mower with this cordless electric one, thinking we were doing the right thing, environment-wise. The first summer it was fine, although it took an overnight recharging and hence two days to cut the lawn, when, with the gas mower we finished to job in 2 hours. But, fine, we rationalized it, saying it was less strenuous, by stretching the job over two days. Summer number 2 - battery dies, because the motor was sucking grass cuttings into the vents, and clogging and overheating. So, replaced battery. New battery somehow is even weaker than the first one, stretching the work over three days, having to recharge overnight twice. And, yes, we plugged it in every second month over the winter. Summer number three - this time some switch needed to be replaced, necessitating a stay in the repair shop of two weeks, while the rain fell and the grass grew. Now, the lawn mower dies out after twenty minutes. Cutting the lawn now takes a week, and then we have to start all over again. At this point, I am prepared to say to heck with the environment! Give me a good old powerful lawn mower that can do the job in one effort and give me the rest of the week to do other things. This lawn mower has proven to be a huge disappointment. If I could rate it with less than 1 star, I would.

  • Overall good, but...

VERY PROMPT shipping.... and cannot beat the price. I saved $30 off ****** list price too boot! Good JOB OVERSTOCK! Just yesterday used for the first time my new Earthwise 20" cordless mower. It did a nice job cutting and mulching in my opinion. Liked the easy start (after figuring out that the key is a pretty snug fit and has to go ALL the way in.... wrestled the thing into my trunk and lugged it to authorized service center thinking it was defective and looked like an idiot -by the way... Earlier called Earthwise 800 number with questions three different times before I finally found a person that knew anything... and don't call on weekends - they don't answer. AND that isn't really Earthwise you are calling but rather some "sort" of tech support (marginal) or distribution company). ALSO, need to realize that the battery indicator on the mower doesn't light up unless the mower is RUNNING! Anyway, back to the mower itself. I was pleased at how it cut,,, but was fearful of low battery life after about 40 minutes. Have to step lively if you want to finish a yard (mine is pretty small) on only one charge and have tall grass. Plus... my hand was aching from holding the lever on and had to stop several times to rest my aching right hand (finally cheated and used a rope). The biggest problem is it is SO DARN HARD TO PUSH! WOW!!! I have done my share of mowing with gas mowers that were NOT self-propelled and NEVER have I encountered any mowers even close to the awkwardness and difficulty in maneuvering and the sheer physical force needed to push that thing around my relatively flat yard. True grass was somewhat tall in the back but beware if your yard has the slightest incline or slope or lots of twists and turns, you definitely have your work cut out for you.Especially if you are short -handle setting is a little too tall. I was debating what would happen first, my finishing the yard,,, or fainting. If you mow frequently, you can cancel your membership to the gym and just mow! Kill two birds with one stone. PROS: Eco-friendly, quiet, cuts nicely (if grass isn't too tall), Easy to change cutting levels, Great strength-building/cardio workout. CONS: battery life questionable, hand cramps and potential for stroke or heart attack. Fine for small, FLAT yards. Hope I don't have significant battery issues or wheel problems I have seen in other reviews. SO FAR, I would recommend to others but must keep in mind the drawbacks.

  • Not as good as I'd hoped

I'd like to echo another user's review of this mower's battery life. Last year when I purchased the mower I was very happy with it. I have a large back yard and while it didn't cut the grass as evenly as a gas-powered mower, I was happy with the job it did and also with the lower carbon footprint. Unfortunately, just barely out of warranty and the battery simply will not hold a charge. The battery alone, with shipping, will costs as much as a new, cheap mower. The only local service station doesn't seem to know too much about electric mowers and the backlog is weeks-long. I realize that batteries have a finite lifespan but I really hoped it would be more than a few months' worth of mowing. I'm unfortunately, going back to a cheap gas-powered, though I dislike those as well since they don't seem to last either unless one spends over $400... Very disappointed.

  • Very happy

Very happy with this mower. I was worried about it not having enough power to cut the grass and hold enough of a charge to mow the whole lawn, the first mow was a bit tall and it did a great job with plenty of battery left. My lawn is fairly small and flat, this is a heavy mower to push but not too bad on my lawn. If I could go back I would certainly want a self propelled version (if available.) The battery seems good, and I do have a little worry about remembering to keep it charged for Winter, but assuming the battery will last if I follow directions, I am very happy with this purchase. The battery is heavy but you can charge in the mower or lift it out to bring it inside to charge. It arrived quickly, and in good order and did NOT have excess packaging material, although some parts were hard to remove from packaging (cardboard between wheels and body.). It was easy to assemble and has a thick but clear instructional manual. Not quiet per say, but certainly quieter than a gas mower.

  • OK mower, poor quality handles

The mower does an adequate job, on par with the Black & Decker battery powered mower I had before it. Like other battery powered mowers, it doesn't handle tall or thick grass very well. That's good in a way because it forces me to mow before the grass gets too tall. Don't use it on wet grass, which you shouldn't do anyway, for the health of the lawn, from what I've read. The problem is that the handles are made of poor quality metal. The company shipped 2 sets of handles after I broke the first and second sets. They all broke at the same place. Had a metal fab shop beef them up. They are showing signs of stress in a new location now, not where the metal shop improved them.

  • Great except for battery

The Earthwise cordless electric mower is wonderful. It is relatively quiet and best of all there is no gas, oil, or noxious fumes. A single battery charge lasts most of the summer here in Michigan. The downside? The mower has a 2-year warranty. At 2 years and 1 month, the battery died...completely! I had stored the battery indoors over the winter and could not have been more surprised to find it dead come Spring. I had to spend an additional $100 to purchase a new battery. I certainly hope that I do not have to buy a new battery every 2 years because that is far more than I am saving in the cost of gas and oil.

  • Earthwise Mower

I was a little skeptical buying an item like this on line. This machine runs very quietly and best of all I no longer have to buy gasoline. I also like the fact that I no longer have to puul to get the mower started. Just stick in a key and the mahice starts and the battery last a good long time.
