I started out with one Earth Box based on a recommendation from a friend. I wanted to be able to have a garden, but not in the traditional sense (preparing soil, fencing off from dogs, constant weeding). The Earth Box is the greatest way to garden, for those who want to grow their own veggies without having to do a lot of back bending work! My husband and I now have 7 Earth Boxes and have had very good success with them. We love the Earth Box system as it allows us to garden without having to do a lot of hard work. In fact, we have given several of our friends Earth Boxes as gifts and they are now enjoying the benefits of Earth Box gardening!
I love Earth Boxes. They are well made and easy to use, take up very little space compared to an in-ground garden, and they really work. Grew tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, kohlrabi, eggplant, brussel sprouts, peppers, and swiss chard and all did really well. Trellises and bird netting are useful add-ons.
Good price and also includes fertilizer and dolomite. Let's get growing!.
I live in the mountains where there is short growing season. I planted the vegetables and they are thriving. I already have tomatoes blooming by bringing in the Earth Boxes whenever the temperature drops. The wheels make this very easy, not a bother at all!!
I got four of these last year and enjoyed using them during the summer for vegetable and tomato plantings. I liked the irrigation system and the box was fun to set up. I used the casters a lot to move the boxes around.
It's growing, it's doing its wonder. It really doesn't matter what color your thumb is.
I planted my 2 earth boxes about 3 weeks ago and the black cover that you put over the soil keeps the soil too dry and some of the plants have died. This is a system that you place water in a tube (which you need to get a big funnel to be able to pour the water into the tube) that goes to the bottom of the planter box and I guess the water is supposed to be absorbed upward to the plants. I followed the directions and got the proper soil they recommend, added their additives that come with the earth boxes, but I think the black plastic cover over the dirt absorbs the heat and drys out the soil under it. Next year I will try the boxes without the black plastic over the dirt.
As my "title" suggests, this is a great product for the beginner farmer. "Who knows" - we may all be growing our own food again ... soon. This is a lost skill with which we should all become reacquainted. This is a good way to start. Units are moderately-sized and easy to move about. I purchased 3 of them. Planted seedlings from the Farmer's Market and am already seeing results. Great product.
I planted tomatoes in the box according to the instructions. Left the box in a sunny spot and water it every few days. I'm completely amazed at how the plants are doing: they are growing so fast and so healthy! This is easy. Next year I will buy another for peppers and basil.
