technologyWow! Don't get me wrong, my 8 yr old Bissel upright works just fine and I am still keeping it. My reasons for getting the Dyson are: 1) I have always wanted to get a cannister vacuum 2) my house has forced air, which generates lots of dust and particulates. I had been thinking about getting a Dyson for years, but the price was really a sticking point for me. Although people always rave about Dyson, I just couldn't get over the price. O.co's special price for a new vacuum was so ridiculously low that I had to go for it. Now that I have the Dyson, I am kicking myself for waiting so long. This vacuum sure can suck! I use all the different attachments, depending on the mission. It works great on hardwoods, short pile carpets, medium pile carpets. I have even used it on my furniture and upholstery. It does an amazing job and I have no complaints about this vacuum. Just a side note....it always irks me when people give negative reviews for something that is stated in the product specifications. Always read the product specifications to know what you are getting. This is a big vaccum and it is heavy vacuum. Do not buy this vacuum if you are looking for a light vaccuum. Product description says it is 19 pounds. I am very petite and the size and weight doesn't bother me at all. Make vacuuming part of your exercise routine! Admittedly, I am so in love with this vacuum that I am a little sad when I am done vacuuming, but I know there will be a next time! Love this vacuum and highly recommend it!!
I've had the Dyson 17 for 7-8yrs and have loved it. I needed a light weight vac since injuring my back and only wanted another Dyson. I was tossing between the "Ball" and the canister. I wish I had bought the Upright Ball. This canister is so light weight that it's like a kids toy vacuum, though it does clean better. The turbine powered head is a huge disappointment. I have a mini-turbine attachment with my DC 17(Animal) that I never use because it is so useless. Even after reading and comparing all of the available units at the Dyson sight, I never realized that the main source of power for this vac on carpets and rugs is ONLY the air suctioned turbine. I would have returned it, except we can't find the paperwork from O.co that accompanied the vac. It's great for stairs and upholstery since you can easily toss it up on things. It does fit under my kitchen cabinets, but it won't pick up cereal flakes or anything that it not flat because the head is so light weight it just pushes it around. I wish my other attachments from my DC 17 would at least fit this unit, but Dyson made the hose just a micro bit smaller so they cannot. I guess they want me to spend more money to buy the same attachments again! hope this helps someone else in their research.
Easy to assemble but you must be careful to expressly follow on the assembly diagram. I tried to connect the hose to the wrong end at first. Waste canister is easy to remove and empty. Suction very powerful and consistent (as advertised). On-board tools fit very well. Long cord (fewer plug changes). Cord retraction mechanism works great every time. Suction-driven carpet vacuum head really works - and conistent power. Big wheels move over cord easily - no jerking the vacuum to get it over the cord. Center of gravity centered over the big wheels so it moves very easily. Previous owners had noted that the hose was flimsy but that's not the case with mine. Hose and strong and firm in hand. Hose and implement connecters are solid and snap in place every time. It's everything I'd hoped it would be.
The only thing I do not like about this machine (and it's a small dislike) is the on and off button is on the canister itself, not the handle (which is what I am used to with our old machine) The machine can really suck! It is amazing how much it picks up each time I vacuum. We have a pug dog and no other machine has been able to get as much of her fur as this one has been able to. The canister doesn't maneuver quite so easily but it's not a big deal. The handle with attachments can get under the furniture really well too. I would definitely recommend spending the extra money to get this top notch brand. I like the bagless feature too. It seems more economical and you can really see just how much you suck up.
The vacuum suction is strong. Part of this reason is because there is no bag and the container must be emptied often because it holds much less than a bag. I have used Sears' vacuums in the past and like their motorized rug brush. Therefore I was disappointed with the vacuum powered unit. This brush is for low and medium pile carpets. It is good that that is what we have. However, on the very dense wool rugs it is hard to manipulate. The long cord is great and retracts very well. I like the on/off switch is on the canister. Disengaging the handle from the tube to the floor attachment could be easier to use as the button pressure and hand placement seem to retard separation. The floor brush does rotate in many ways which allows for reaching under most furnishings very easy.
I am always looking for a vacuum that is easy to maneuver and can pick up all the dirt. This is the vacuum, I have been waiting for.
Just purchased this Dyson vacuum. I love it. It's very easy to use and works great.
This is a fantastic vacuum, but the size is big. I should have gone with the smaller one but overall I'm ok with it.
We live on a dirt road and dust is always a problem and all other vacs have been unable to keep up with the problem. Not the Dyson! We have 1,800 sq. feet of tile and it has never looked better and cleaner.
Let me start by saying dyson has never let me down this small but strong little vacuum is the best. I have had it 2 weeks and it works grate on wood or rugs and carpet'ed areas in my home i will say it dose not like very short pile rugs unless you go with the flow of the pile other than this i am loving it. if your thinking about it go for it.
