Bought as a gift for someone who has one of this set and loves it. The size is good and large, the handle has enough room to hold it easily, and the style is a lot of fun. I read a review that said they had iron in them, so I actually called the manufacturer to check that out. They told me that all porcelain has a trace of earth minerals but that their standards of purity exceed U.S. requirements.

Although these are described as stoneware, they don't look and feel like classic stoneware dishes. These are lighter and not clunky...more like porcelain in my opinion. They are shinier that they appear in the pictures, but the shine isn't apparent unless you tilt the dishes or your head...likely because the rice pattern is very slightly rasied and breaks up the shine. I found the size to be perfect. The dinner plates are 10" across, 12" diagnonally. I was concerned that they might be too small, as our old dishes were round and 11" across. These actually have slightly more square area if you do the math, and they seem just the same. Some have complained about the bowl size. The bowls will hold 1 1/2 cups of liquid. If you have something thicker, you could probably put more in the bowls. The plates are mor...
