We purchased and installed this fireplace about 3 weeks ago and are very pleased with the purchase. We were looking for a contemporary styled electric fireplace that had a large proportion of "viewing" space in relation to the overall frame size. We didn't want any logs (not part of a contemporary look) but would have been OK with some rocks. We also needed the heat to come out the front of the fireplace due to where it was going to be installed. Many of the electric fireplaces were either (1) too small overall, (2) had a big frame but a small viewing area, (3) had a bigger viewing area but had "dark spots" on the sides because the flame mechanism was too small, (4) had a contemporary frame but included fake logs, or (5) the heat came out the bottom. The heat coming out the bottom was the problem with most wall-mounted fireplaces. This fireplace is wide, has nice flames all the way across the large viewing area, has a great glossy black finish (glass with black backing - not paint on metal that can scratch), and heats up our 11x19 media room very quickly. The heat comes out of two vents on the top side of the viewing area with the blower pointing a bit downward (which is good - hot air rises). The one functional change we would have liked is for the remote to allow the use of flames with or without heat. The remote is "on/off" only and the switch for turning the heat on or off is on the side of the fireplace (manually operated). What this means is that if the heat switch is on, then when the remote is used to turn the fireplace on you get flame + heat. If the heat switch is off, then when the remote is used to turn the fireplace on you get flame only. It would be nice to be able to use the remote to turn on the flame with heat, then turn the heat off or on again with the remote. Also, be aware that the wall mounting design is a little flimsy. There are two slots on the back of the fireplace unit that the bracket slides into and the back of the fireplace bows out a little under the weight of the unit. My husband added a support to the fireplace underneath and put an L-bracket on the top to further secure it to the wall. I shopped all types of electric fireplaces and this combination of style, function and price represents a very good value. The electric fireplaces that were 3-4 times the price of this one had better remotes, adjustable LED lights and coloring, and available cracked glass media, but the flames weren't any nicer and I like the contemporary look of this frame, so the simpler functionality and no media were trade-offs that I was willing to make.
I love everything about this fireplace except the reflective background. I was surprised it had a mirrored background. No where in the description did it mention this. The pictures made it look like it was a black background. No one mentioned it in their review. This reflective background really takes away from the realistic look of the flames. Everything else about this fireplace is great. I can't send it back so I will be selling it. Dimplex says all their units are reflective. Just beware of this!
LOVE IT! I am not easy to please and it has to be perfect to pass my test. This really did the trick when I moved into the condo of my dreams but one that lacked a fireplace. This one is sleek, not too big or too small and plain enough to go with any décor. I placed under my flat screen TV on the wall and put a small mantel over it and voila--a very believable fireplace that can be used with or without a heater that actually throws enough heat to warm my toes while watching TV. Guests have through it was built in and I am very pleased with the result. I have had it for more than a year and it works great.
I purchased the Dimplex DWF-5328B3A to replace a natural gas plasma fireplace that cost fives more, but didn't look any better. The DWF-5328B3A looks just as good and gives off just as much heat without the odors. The flames look real as long as you are a foot or more away. It only took me about ten minutes to install. I was at first concerned that this unit might not look as good as the expensive natural gas unit it replaced, but I am pleasantly surprised and completely satisfied with the unit. I am planning on purchasing a couple more for other rooms in the house for the relaxing flame effect and additional heat. If there is a drawback, it would have to be that it does stick out from the wall an inch or more than the one it replaced. This is because of the two vents on top that draw in air for the heater.
We were looking for a contemporary sleek looking fire, and found it with this one. It is so good looking, and has a realistic flame. We obviously didn't want it for heating purposes living in SW Florida, but wanted something good to fill in the hole in our wall unit This fits the bill nicely, and matches our tv exactly. We are so pleased to have bought this. If you are looking for something good on the eye this is for you.
