No problems with delivery. However, no instructions for assembly were included. After some thought we were able to figure out how to put together (90 mins). The chair and leather are very nice BUT only the back reclines. NO foot recliner! Also it is very difficult to get the back to reline because the lever is on the inside under the cushion, not the outside. Also, the lever is metal and so close to the inside side, that it is very difficult and uncomfortable to get a grasp of. If you want a nice leather club chair, this is great. If you want a recliner, forget about it.
We ordered two of these chairs on Thursday and received both on Tuesday evening. They shipped from Illinois to Pennsylvania. The DHL delivery person was an awesome former furniture guy from that pricey furniture "look alike" store, the same place you can see this chair and matching ottoman sold for $2,000. He unpacked each piece and inspected it himself with us. They came EXTREMELY well packaged in five large boxes. Our seat frames, backs, left arms, right arms, and cushions were in individual boxes. The feet, wing nuts and instructions were packaged together in the seat frame box. No pieces were missing. The only minor problems I have seen are two small scratches in the top of one of the cushions. Once he had everything unpacked, he put one of them together for us. First, the four feet screwed on the seat frame. Then the back flap is moved aside so you can see the two prongs and when positioned over the seat piece, slide over the two prongs on the seat top... no screws. Finally each arm is attached to the assembled seat/back frame with large wing nuts. The most difficult part is trying to figure out the front part of the arm from the back. Thanks to our delivery god, it assembled in a snap, about 10 minutes. A tip from our delivery god, if you want to remove the back for moving, have somebody sit in the chair while the other persons yanks the back straight up. Maybe he over performed hoping for us to show our appreciation, but it was well worth it. The size of chairs are fairly large library-type one so if space is a problem, you may want to pay a visit to the ¿look alike¿ store to sit in one. They are also perfect for us taller folks as our family ranges in height from 5¿10¿ to 6¿6¿. I purchased the square cocktail ottoman with the chairs and the color is a perfect match. I would advise that you get either the matching ottoman or some other ottoman as only the seat reclines and you will want to put your feet up to get comfortable. Hope this helps.
I am very pleased with the Dexter. I use it everyday after work and sometimes also in the morning. Basically, it is getting used a lot. It is comfortable, more comfortable than any chair I have ever sat in. The leather is supple. It is also easy to clean. Also I should note that I am quite heavy so this chair’s frame must be quite stong. And it is obviously roomy. This is an excellent chair.
This chair was very difficult to put together. I am an Engineer and it gave me a head ache. After it was assembled according to the diagram and with NO left over pieces it would not stay in the up right position after it was reclined. Horrible buy.
You have to be a little bit of a handyman. It came in two large cartons, well packed but with NO directions...........and in 5 different pieces. Quality of the leather is excellent, its a big roomy comfortable chair and the color matches the ottoman perfectly
After doing a lot of research on leather chairs, I finally decided to trust Overstock and order this. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised. It arrived quickly in two large boxes by a freight carrier. My husband assembled it in about 30 minutes. As another reviewer stated, it is a darker brown. We love the fact that it reclines, yet the reclining bar is hidden next to the seat cushion. If you're looking for a quality chair, this is comparable to one being sold in a popular mail order catalog right now for more than twice the amount that you can get it for here.
I have been so long searching for a comfortable and durable, stylish and simple arm chair for my study room, but nothing seemed good enough. That is how I found this great Dexter Dark Brown Bi-cast Leather Reclining Arm Chair. This chair is classic and modern in a single piece of furniture; it is solid and high quality enough for my taste. I adore sitting in my new arm chair from Overstock.
I’ve had my eye on this chair for a few weeks and finally just couldn’t resist buying it for my husband. He’s been needing a new easy chair to relax in each evening and I thought this leather arm chair would be nice for him. He loves it. He settled into it the first night after it was delivered and declared he could sleep there. The chair’s back reclines just enough for him to really relax.
I don?t usually get too excited by furniture but this leather chair is special. The brown leather is rich and so soft to the touch. The seat cushion is great for settling into and the back reclines at exactly the right angle for relaxing. And those big fat arms?what great style. I haven?t ever seen chair arms quite like these and find them great for resting my arms on when I?m watching TV.
These shipped SUPER fast via ***. I bought 2 of these chairs for over **** less than the price of ONE of the brand name (P*ricey B*rand) "Manhattan" club chair. I couldn't be happier with how these LOOK and feel! I must admit the bi-cast leather had me concerned, but it looks fabulous, and has an authentic leather feel! I repair and refinish leather, so I have some expertise in the look and feel of genuine leather! POSITIVES: 1.) Looks great! Makes for an expensive looking furniture purchase for a price that cannot be beat! 2. ) Comfortable. 3.) Heavy. NEGATIVES: 1.) Ships in pieces. One chair is in 5 pieces not counting the 4 wooden legs which also must be screwed onto the bottom. You have to bolt the entire chair together. This is no problem for someone handy, but the weak or elderly will need assistance in this process. One chair ships in 2 large boxes. 2. ) Recline function is inconvenient. The handle to recline the chair back is located in between the cushion and the arm of the chair, it's doable, but it is slightly problematic. I'm also worried that with use of the recline function there will be tears in the leather of the arm or cushion. I can repair these myself, but for those who cannot this might be a true issue. Don't even think of trying to recline in this chair without an ottoman! Only the back of the chair reclines, the leg portion is immovable! 3.) FUMES! For the chemically sensitive, please consider that this will off-gas. It was pretty difficult to deal with at first. I recommend putting these together in a garage and leaving them there until the off-gassing is disbursed somewhat. But these are LARGE chairs, wide, so make sure you will have the room to move them indoors once they have aired out. 4.) The chairs are very heavy! That's a great thing for durability, but for ease of cleaning flooring underneath these will not be an object that is moved weekly! 5.) I'm only 5' 3" tall and this chair is too tall for petite people. I don't mind because I have an ottoman to rest my feet on. The back of the chairs are not high, they're low club chair height, so these chairs will be difficult for a large man to sit in for a prolonged period as an easy chair. All that said, I'd buy these again and I highly recommend them! They're a great value for the price, and the only reason the chair got 4 stars instead of 5 is for the difficulty of accessing the reclining option, and possible problems with the reclining lever over time. I've had these chairs for 4 days and I'm thrilled! If you've been wanting "The Manhattan" chair forever, buy this...you won't regret it!
We bought 2 of these chairs and the matching ottoman, they are great for the price! They are very comparable to the Manhattan chairs at the expensive chain store, although the material probably isn't as nice. There was an odor coming from these chairs, but we've had them now for about 1 month and the odor is gone. My husband didn't have much trouble putting them together either. We have them up against the wall so we never use the recline feature. I'm very happy with our purchase, all our visitors give compliments on our new chairs!
This chair looks fantastic and is well worth the money! You would never guess how inexpensive it was from looking at it. The only down side is it's a little hard to get to recline since the lever is on the inside of the chair. Ours didn't come with instructions but after a little brainstorming we figured it out and it turned out to be quite easy to assemble.
We use this club chair in our living room as a reading chair. It is great! My husband especially enjoys sitting in it. When the description says "some assembly required" all that means is that you have to put the legs on the chair and ottoman - EASY! It's an awesome chair and I highly recommend it.
I was really wanting this chair but was nervous to buy online. It Came and I really like it. The chair is very stiff, I'm really hoping it will soften up. The color is pretty dark almost black. Other than that It was easy to put together and is the perfect size.
Love it. As previously posted it is a tall chair. My wife is 5'4" and feet do not touch the floor. No problem though because it is a great chair and very comfortable. Took us less than 30 minutes from unpacking to assembly even without instructions. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because it has a minor scratch in an area on the back. Likely from shipping as the box had a tear.
I just love the chair. It is very well made and wasn't too bad to put together. The shippment came fast and it was packed well. Recently I had a get together and there were many comments on how much they liked it. It feels like a chair that would work well in any room. I would highly recommend this item. It would be great as a cigar club chair.
I thought long and hard about buying furniture on line, but it is beautiful. easy to but together, very comfy, and looks very expensive.
I absolutely love this chair. It has a beautiful rich brown leather and I probably could have assembled it without instructions. Once assembled it locks in to give it that sturdiness feeling.
It was not difficult however to feel more secure in the assembly directions would be very helpful (did I use all the pieces?).
The leather used for this chair is of high quality, supple and very handsome. Color is faithful to what you see in the picture (dark espresso brown). It has a good, solid appearance, and is a perfect size, not small. And it is comfortable. On the down side, we were not called ahead by the delivery service to let us know the delivery time window, as we had been told we would. They simply showed up and luckily I was home. Additionally, the recliner lever, which is on the INTERIOR/INSIDE of the arm of the chair, so it is hard to reach when you are actually sitting in the chair (it's tucked in on the side between the cushion and lower part of the arm interior ). The lever is a little stiff and hard to manipulate, but perhaps this will ease up with time and use. However, the recline lever is positioned close to the leather, so you have to be a little careful when you use it not to rub it against the leather. There were no instructions sent with the chair (which comes in three big boxes), so you have to get everything laid out and take about 20 mins to figure out what goes where and how to assemble it. The twist on head of one of the long bolting screws did not match up to the screw size, so my husband had to file it out a bit to enlarge it. We ordered the matching ottoman and it looks very nice as well. Both pieces are good quality and look like items that cost much more. Overall, we are pleased with the purchase. If you are not the "I've got tools and can assemble" type, you will need someone who is to help you.
