The place where you sit down to work, pay bills, or just catch up with social media should be comfortable, and it doesn't hurt if it's beautiful, too. Mainly, your desk needs to be a place where you can focus on the task at hand, whatever that may be. Here's what to look for while you shop.
First, you'll need to ask yourself how large of a desk you need. If you just need a place to set your laptop while you write a few emails and check your bank balance, then a small writing desk or secretary will be enough. If you have a desktop computer with a printer, speakers, and other components, you'll need something larger. If you like to have your reference materials nearby, choose something with shelves, drawers, or a hutch.
Next, the room where you'll set up your home office will need to factor into your decision. Large workstations are great for dividing up larger rooms while corner desks are ideal for focusing your thoughts in a cozy room. If the room will be your dedicated home office, then choose something with a bold style and decorate around it. If you're adding a home office area to another room, coordinate the finish and the details with the existing furniture there. A desk with doors may be helpful in a room like this, too, so you can close everything up when you're not working.
Finally, you'll need to think about who will use the desk most. If your inner entrepreneur is telling you to be your own boss, then it could be time to start shopping for home office furniture. Choose a desk that inspires you, whether it's the style that gets your creativity going or just the space to spread out your things. If you're setting up a study space for your child, look for a student desk that has room for a computer as well as an open textbook. If you do a lot of typing, you may want to look for something that comes with a keyboard tray.

  • Terrible instructions. Keyboard to small

The instructions are terrible. Forget to mention certain stages. The keyboard is too small for the unit and thus causes it to fall out when pulled out. For the price I paid, this is junk. Look somewhere else or at something else. Buyer beware

For *** bucks, this desk is exactly what I wanted- a simple desk top with a little storage for my son to use his laptop. I bought a pair of reed baskets to fit on the shelves as drawers and a plexiglas chair for it so the whole thing has a contemporary look. The finish color is nice, the style is pretty unobtrusive, and the parts came together easily and evenly. There is a notice that states no more than 40 lbs should be on it, so I don't think this would be the piece for storing loads of books. FYI My high ratings assume that you know what to expect for the price and self-assembly, so they're relative to that assumption.

The space and design of the desk top and keyboard tray were just fine, however, the stability of the desk is sub-par. Flimsy metal legs, even attached properly to the desktop cause the desk to sway far too much. I am definitely going to get rid of this one for a more quality piece. The price is not worth the time spent wondering when this one will fall over.
