The place where you sit down to work, pay bills, or just catch up with social media should be comfortable, and it doesn't hurt if it's beautiful, too. Mainly, your desk needs to be a place where you can focus on the task at hand, whatever that may be. Here's what to look for while you shop.
First, you'll need to ask yourself how large of a desk you need. If you just need a place to set your laptop while you write a few emails and check your bank balance, then a small writing desk or secretary will be enough. If you have a desktop computer with a printer, speakers, and other components, you'll need something larger. If you like to have your reference materials nearby, choose something with shelves, drawers, or a hutch.
Next, the room where you'll set up your home office will need to factor into your decision. Large workstations are great for dividing up larger rooms while corner desks are ideal for focusing your thoughts in a cozy room. If the room will be your dedicated home office, then choose something with a bold style and decorate around it. If you're adding a home office area to another room, coordinate the finish and the details with the existing furniture there. A desk with doors may be helpful in a room like this, too, so you can close everything up when you're not working.
Finally, you'll need to think about who will use the desk most. If your inner entrepreneur is telling you to be your own boss, then it could be time to start shopping for home office furniture. Choose a desk that inspires you, whether it's the style that gets your creativity going or just the space to spread out your things. If you're setting up a study space for your child, look for a student desk that has room for a computer as well as an open textbook. If you do a lot of typing, you may want to look for something that comes with a keyboard tray.

The one star reviewer is an idiot. Yes, its particle board, hence the $330 price tag. If you understand what you are buying, I think this is a great buy on a great looking desk. I've had mine for over a year now and its held up wonderfully. We have gotten many compliments from people who love it. Its very easy to assemble and I think it looks nicer than any other particle board desk you're going to find. Looks like real wood at most glances. If you're looking for a nice desk for under $500 this is a great bet.

  • NICE, but needs longer screws than provided.

This Murphy desk is very well-built, sturdy, and attractive. The only issues we had were the directions not being as clear as they should have been (why did they give us 4 plastic anchors when we only needed 2?), and the two 2" screws for the top back of the unit were not long enough to go into the studs. We had to use 3" screws instead. That all being said, we are thrilled with the desk!

The instructions were vague but my son helped me. I liked the color options so I can match the room. I gave this to my daughter for her to use instead of a tv tray. I slide it over the bed when she is gone off to college. Stores great! I gave it a good rating because I have problems with tightening the top. I'm use to be able to lean on some of the older models (at school) but I can't on this one, maybe it's me. My daughter uses it and it does hold her laptop, no complaints.

  • Poor Instructions make for difficult assembly

marbles  from Los Angeles, California, Rating:2.0

It is a nice looking product, but the assembly instructions are poor; plus often pre-drilled holes were not drilled enough which made putting in screws or bolts strenuous. Pull out drawer sticks out and can be a hazard if you are not paying attention. All in all, i can understand why this product was an "over stock" buyout Not recommended!!!

  • Good for thr money

Nice little desk. Fits my needs and goes in the space well. The biggest problem is assembly it takes some time and a bucket of patience.
