The place where you sit down to work, pay bills, or just catch up with social media should be comfortable, and it doesn't hurt if it's beautiful, too. Mainly, your desk needs to be a place where you can focus on the task at hand, whatever that may be. Here's what to look for while you shop.
First, you'll need to ask yourself how large of a desk you need. If you just need a place to set your laptop while you write a few emails and check your bank balance, then a small writing desk or secretary will be enough. If you have a desktop computer with a printer, speakers, and other components, you'll need something larger. If you like to have your reference materials nearby, choose something with shelves, drawers, or a hutch.
Next, the room where you'll set up your home office will need to factor into your decision. Large workstations are great for dividing up larger rooms while corner desks are ideal for focusing your thoughts in a cozy room. If the room will be your dedicated home office, then choose something with a bold style and decorate around it. If you're adding a home office area to another room, coordinate the finish and the details with the existing furniture there. A desk with doors may be helpful in a room like this, too, so you can close everything up when you're not working.
Finally, you'll need to think about who will use the desk most. If your inner entrepreneur is telling you to be your own boss, then it could be time to start shopping for home office furniture. Choose a desk that inspires you, whether it's the style that gets your creativity going or just the space to spread out your things. If you're setting up a study space for your child, look for a student desk that has room for a computer as well as an open textbook. If you do a lot of typing, you may want to look for something that comes with a keyboard tray.

Not a bad price, and only one flew on the surface. Wasn't overly happy with that scuff, but this is a three year old item, mixed in 2011. I would recommend removing all parts from the box slowly to avoid getting the white foam everywhere. I am very happy with the desk, and that the color is exactly as it looks. It is almost a dark cherry finish.

My biggest problem with ordering furniture through online website is the shipping experience. The product is no doubt traveling long distances and mishandled by the carrier on a regular basis. I feel its the responsibility of Overstock to ensure the product is packaged in a way that it doesn't get damaged in any way before it's received by the purchaser. The desk had two shelves with corners chipped!! We didn't return because of the shipping hassle and we thought what prevents this from happening again! We are happy with the quality of the product but not satisfied with Overstock in general.

So cheaply made, but so pretty. It's wood-grained sticker on top of cheap wood, stickers already peeling, so disappointed in quality. Will not last very long.

The writing desk is beautiful and study BUT beware of buying if you're not into the idea of spending 2+ hours assembling. For the cost, it could be easier to simply go down to your local furniture store to purchase a wooden desk that is already assembled upon delivery. The instructions are not easy to understand in some places and combine that with a lot of pieces and you're dedicating a good amount of time to putting this thing together which is really is my only complaint. The desk itself, once assembled, is beautiful.

This desk rocks! It's perfect for limited space. Gives what you need to hold a laptop, lamp and a notebook. I was optimistic when I orderded and am thrilled to be typing this from my new home office space (the size of a doorway). Quality is good. It scrateches as much as a table I purchased from **** *** - also black laquered. Value is great. It's wood (not MDF or partical board) and the price point matches costs for building something on your own. It's a great find!
