Unfortunately, it is a set of seven, not eight, as one plate was broken in transit. It was a discontinued item, aparently, so I could not get a replacement. I have received unbeakable items that were better packed than these--originally quite pricey--plates. They came in a box separated only by pieces of waffle paper. I love them regardless and always look for an eighth one in discount stores. My only complaint: they are heavy but they really make a statement with black, patterned or brightly colored place mats.
