This is a beautiful and affordable secretary's desk. It fits nicely in my kitchen. My intent was to purchase this item for beauty as well as for function to house my laptop. I considered the dimensions listed and read the reviews from buyers who stated that the desk houses a standard laptop ...BUT... I disagree. My laptop (11 and some inches deep) will fit in the desk but the folding door will not close which is very disappointing. I loved the piece so much that I kept it anyway but it did not solve my laptop storage issue.

I bought this item to use as a computer desk. I needed a small area to work at because I already have a big roll top desk in the room that I would be using. It is the perfect size and has all the compartments that I need. The carvings in the wood are beautiful and add to the decor of the room. By closing the front door you close off your business and add beauty. I love it.

This is giong to be a great replacement desk for my laptop. It was packed well so none of the parts were damaged or scrathed. It was super easy to put together. I would have rated it a five, but IMHO it needs a small hole in the back for computer wiring.

The thing I dont lke about the desk is if u leave the door down it could tip over very easily.IIts not very sterdy.

This was a wonderful purchase! The hand carving is great, the size is perfect for the space I had. Shipping was lightening fast, and all I had to do was screw on the legs. A really great purchase! You won't be disappointed.....

The desk is pretty if you are getting it to fill an area, but it is very lightly made. The carved portion on the front panel appears to carved in to one piece of wood, but it it actually glued into the center of the panel. The weight is light. It is not something that would hold up to a lot of wear, but is fine as an accent piece. My preference would have been to pay twice as much to get a quality piece of furniture than just an accent piece. It is pretty, though, and I do like it for that purpose.

• How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Color is slightly redder in tone, more towards mahogany than oak. The picture appears to be a medium oak stain. Mine looks like mahogany

I can't believe the quick shipping time and the product arrived in excellent condition. Also,construction was just attaching the legs. I am very pleased and the desk looks good in my bedroom - matching my cherry furniture.

The desk has beautiful carved wood, a little darker than seen on the website. The slots for envelopes and papers are a little small. Otherwise this is a nice desk.

• Please tell us about the quality of the product. It has a small area that had been cut into the wood, had to apply a wood finish stain marker to cover the bare wood that was showing. It looked like it may have been cut with a box knife from the box previously being opened. Covered with the stain its barely noticable now.

Overall a good buy. A couple of minor blemishes but this is a really nice piece.

This is a gorgeous piece of hand-carved furniture, and this comes from a wood lover. The carved scenery is meticulous and well polished. The lacquer is soft and blends well with the cherry-dark finish. It looks much more expensive, and more more older, like from a Scottish castle, although it has the air of brand new at the same time. I am in love with this piece and can't wait to write a fantastic novel on it. I usually forget about flaws when I like something so much, but just for the sake of accuracy, one of the legs needed a small floor-adhesive support, in order to make the desk stable, and there were some almost invisible scratches on the inside and laterally, but I repeat, these are minor. The price is incredible also. I am European and can vouch that you'll never be able to buy this piece in Europe for the same price, even if in Euro! Thank you, Overstock!

Bought this for my mom, who was downsizing from a house to a retirement community apartment. We could not have been more pleased, and she is very picky. She has remarked several times how expensive the piece looks. The color depicted is very accurate. Be aware as others have noted that this is a small secretary and will not hold large items like files or legal sized envelopes.

After reading the other reviews I was nervous, but then I got it and I was so pleased. It is the perfect small desk for a NYC apartment. It fits up against my window ledge without obstructing my view. It is sturdy and my laptop can be stored inside (with the door closed) along with other office trinkets. I did notice a few nicks in the wood, something likely when you have something that is hand carved. I feel like for the price it was ok. The scratches are minimal. It is so hard to find solid wood furniture anymore and when you do it is usually much more money. The internal organizer can be removed completely or laid flat. Full width with the desk open is about 25 inches.

I had searched for a secretary's desk on several websites and found this very same one for quite a bit more. I was very excited to find this desk at this price considering I had found it several other places for over $400.00. Reading the reviews I was a little skeptical in using this company but decided to take a chance especially since the savings were over $100.00. I placed my order on June 8th and wondered if it would take forever like some reviews I read. OMG, I received my desk 2 days later on June 10th!!!!! Holy cow!!! I was SO shocked and amazed it had come SO fast!!!! The box was in great shape, the packing was substantial, and the desk was in excellent condition!!! I could not have asked for better service or a better quality of furniture!!! It is gorgeous and I am more than satisfied!!!! I will definitely be using this company again!!! :D

Our house is from 1923 and our mail comes in directly through the front door. We needed a table for our small foyer to hold/organize the mail. The mail needed to be off the foyer floor and NOT on the dining room table (a pet peeve of mine). My husband and I were beyond pleased that this small secretary has the organizational help we were looking for in an incredibly beautiful design. The wood is lovely, the carving intricate and slightly Asian in design but not so much as to limit it's inclusion in traditional or transitional decoration. The cubbies inside are a bit small, but again, we use them to hold mail, stamps, address labels, and tip money for deliveries. Our nephew stayed with us one weekend and used the desk for his laptop station. Lovely piece of furniture, pleasing to the eye, super easy to assemble.

This desk was great for me, because I needed a desk in a small space. I wish it was just a little bigger, but it does the job. My laptop is not very large so it fits inside nicely.

It fit the space on our wall perfectly and it was very nice looking. It has potental for good organization, but I might look at a different cubical for inside. The one that came with it doesn't fit what I would like to put in there. For instance a business letter or anything that size. The box was damaged when it arrived, and upon opening it I found a crack on the side of the cabinet. I wasn't sure what to do at that point. We still think it will work for our need, but would like a discount for the flaw.

Just what I being looking for to go in my fowler. The size, height, and lengh. It's beautiful and look great.

Overstock was prompt as usual on getting the desk to me. Overall the desk was a prefect fit for what I needed. Only negative I saw was that the insert in the desk drop front must have slipped once it was glued in place or they missed staining the top area. There is a small line across the top you can see when you sit down at the desk before you drop the front down. I will have to stain this area at some point but overall quality is good and would have been excellent other than that.
