Our house is 20 years old with, as was customary during the 80's, 8 foot ceilings and very few ceiling lights. When our youngest went off to college, we wanted to redploy his former bedroom into a sitting room as it has a beautiful view of our backyard. The one drawback with its new role, however, was that the room did not have any end tables for lamps. We considered having recessed lighting installed but we decided against it for cost reasons. So we found these lamps at Overstock and ordered 2 of them. I am happy to report that these lamps far exceeded our expectations. The lamps were received in 2 days and arrived in excellent condition. The assembly was very fast...it took about 10 minutes to complete each one. All required hardware was included and the instructions were quite clear. The workmanship is excellent and the light they output certainly brighten the entire room. A terrific feature is the integrated reading lamp...perfect for relaxing with a good book. We were so pleased with these lamps that we purchased a third! And this one arrive the very next day! i needed a strong light source for a bedroom ceiling fan light combo gone haywire which is over a kingsize waterbed. i bought this as a temporary measure until i can decide what to do with the bedroom. i took a chance and bought this lamp. am i ever glad, despite some of the neg reviews. i can't imagine the problems other customers might have had since i put mine together with no problems. mine is sturdy and very beautifu. the lighting is more than adequate since you have several settings from which to choose. even, after i resolve that bedroom's light problem, this lamp will come out to the living room. i am strongly considering another.

The flex tube that supports the reading lamp was stretched and damaged where it fits into the main body of lamp. I am so disappointed overall that I will just get rid of this lamp. I did not keep packing materials to return because I was so annoyed. The shade does not completely hide the two 60 watt bulbs when standing a few feet away.

This lamp is a perfect addition to my living room. It provides soft lighting for TV watching, and an intense beam for reading. The finish is a light golden color, not brassy orange. It was well-packed and fairly easy to put together by myself. Good price also.
