Our house is 20 years old with, as was customary during the 80's, 8 foot ceilings and very few ceiling lights. When our youngest went off to college, we wanted to redploy his former bedroom into a sitting room as it has a beautiful view of our backyard. The one drawback with its new role, however, was that the room did not have any end tables for lamps. We considered having recessed lighting installed but we decided against it for cost reasons. So we found these lamps at Overstock and ordered 2 of them. I am happy to report that these lamps far exceeded our expectations. The lamps were received in 2 days and arrived in excellent condition. The assembly was very fast...it took about 10 minutes to complete each one. All required hardware was included and the instructions were quite clear. The workmanship is excellent and the light they output certainly brighten the entire room. A terrific feature is the integrated reading lamp...perfect for relaxing with a good book. We were so pleased with these lamps that we purchased a third! And this one arrive the very next day! I didn't realize this lamp didn't use regular light bulbs and am now frantically trying to find ones that will fit correctly. I wish someone had warned me ahead of time. Otherwise, I love, love, love the appearance of this lamp in my newly refurbished family room!

It isn't apparent from the photo that the adjustments on the smaller reading light are minimal. It bends only at the ends with a solid piece of metal in between. The tall framework is less than adequate. Even fully screwed together, the tall poles are wobbly and twist around when making adjustments on the smaller light. I have kept all the cardboard and will repack this item for return. On the plus side, the base is heavy enough to keep the lamp from tipping over and the style is pleasing, but the quality just isn't what I was looking for. In addition, the halogen reading light throws a very yellow light, not daylight in spectrum and the halogen bulb has lots of warnings on it about heat/fire hazzards. Wish manufacturers would get on board with compact fluorescent bulbs.

The flex tube that supports the reading lamp was stretched and damaged where it fits into the main body of lamp. I am so disappointed overall that I will just get rid of this lamp. I did not keep packing materials to return because I was so annoyed. The shade does not completely hide the two 60 watt bulbs when standing a few feet away.

we have enjoyed this lamp for sometime now. It's different changes in brightness is useful. It is nice to look at too.

Beautiful lamp and well worth the price! My room is so well-lit and the reading light on the side is perfect as well. I needed a good floor lamp as I am moving to a much smaller place and this lamp will be ideal. Love it!

Helped a non internet user find this lamp. He had been quoted a price of $300 + for a lamp like this "on sale" at a small chain furniture store. Thru Overstock, I was able to give him 4 or 5 choices much less expensive. He is thrilled with the lamp and it was very easy to assemble (he is not mechanical at all)! The lamp is classy and the switches allow four levels of light depending on your needs. I can easily recommend this lamp to someone who wants something a little more upscale.

It was a present for a friend and he loved it. It is actually a more muted gold color. contemporary with a old school flair.

I have had the Cyrus Elliptical Brass Floor Lamp for 6 weeks in my livingroom and I love how easy the knobs work. It gives great light, and the movable reading arm is just perfect , it doesn't bother the person next to me , when he is watching TV. I have a 13 watt "energy star" bulb in the top part and it lights up beautiful!

i needed a strong light source for a bedroom ceiling fan light combo gone haywire which is over a kingsize waterbed. i bought this as a temporary measure until i can decide what to do with the bedroom. i took a chance and bought this lamp. am i ever glad, despite some of the neg reviews. i can't imagine the problems other customers might have had since i put mine together with no problems. mine is sturdy and very beautifu. the lighting is more than adequate since you have several settings from which to choose. even, after i resolve that bedroom's light problem, this lamp will come out to the living room. i am strongly considering another.

This lamp is a perfect addition to my living room. It provides soft lighting for TV watching, and an intense beam for reading. The finish is a light golden color, not brassy orange. It was well-packed and fairly easy to put together by myself. Good price also.

This attractive floor lamp provides a bright up-light as well as a great flexible high intensity reading light. It has made reading in the family room much better. The on/off knobs are within easy reach while sitting. I would recommend it.
