We've had this knife set for about a month now. Before making the purchase, we checked out a lot of different sets. My husband is a sous chef and I love to cook, so it was time for an upgrade. We were using a Food Network knife block set that I had for several years. We checked out some block sets in the store and then narrowed it down to Wusthof and Henckles, and decided on this Henckle set because he thought it was the best value for the price. It's a definite upgrade from what we were using. I love that I can now easily slice through a tomato or a green pepper without having to saw at it! Another positive, for him, is the sharpening steel. The only thing that I am concerned with is how these knives will hold up. We do not put them in the dishwasher and he has noticed a small nick in one of them already. You also need to be sure to wash and dry them thouroughly right away because they will easily get rust spots.

I bought these knives as a gift for Christmas. I am from the food industry and I know knives. These knives are great for the beginning cook. They do a better job than just basics and will help in all food preparation. I would recommend these knives for the home.

I bought this knife sharpener for myself because I wanted to start cooking and eating healthy food. Since this requires a lot of chopping and slicing of fresh veggies and meats, I bought the sharpener and a very nice set of knives. The knives actually came with a "diamond surface" sharpener but it was round and I did not like it compared to this sharpener. The surface of this sharpener is flattened so you get perfect contact between the blade of your knife and the sharpener. It's also not such a rough surface and does not 'grate' the blades of my knives. The handle is perfectly shaped to hold with a good grip. I am female and my hands are not large so this is important to me. Although there is a ring on the end of the handle for hanging from a hook if you want, the surface of the sharpener is metal and sits perfectly on my magnetic strip that holds all of my frequently-used knives. I am very satisfied with this sharpener and I highly recommend it.

This is a great set for the average chef. I am not a professional but do like to cook using fresh foods and so use this on a daily basis. It came exactly as described. The set included a sharpener and each piece did need to be sharpened prior to use. The set also looks very nice with my black and stainless steel kitchen appliances. I have already thrown away all my other mis-matched knives.

I just needed a set of knives while I was in the US and figured I would likely end up leaving them behind at some point so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. My expectations were reasonable and I just wanted something that would get the job done, preferably without a half dozen steak knives that I would never use. I was impressed with the heft and balance the knives have, they fit very nicely in the hand and are good for a variety of food prep. The handles actually looked cheaper on the site and I was happy to discover that whatever material they are made of is very substantial and sturdy. I've had to hone the blades on the ones that get the most use already so I would recommend a decent sharpening stone but bearing in mind that I cook for my girlfriend and myself three times a day these have already seen quite a bit of use. After a couple of passes the blades go back to sharp and stay that way for about a week, equal to lower end sets of more well known knives that are much more expensive. My only complaint is that the shears are not well made and they stick together when I try to use them, requiring me to yank them apart every time. Although I will say they are a proper set of shears and not the weak scissors you normally see in sets like these, they are designed for tendon and bone not clipping coupons.

I bought this knife after Christina Perrilla recommended using a ceramic knife for food preparation. I saw her at a live cooking demonstartion where she used her own ceramice knife, which she has owned for 20 years. This is a different brand than hers, but I am so very excited about it. Excellent quality, sharpness superior to all other knives I owe, I have about 8 other knives. Ii knew it would be sharp, but I cut on of my fingers while washing it. So be very careful. It cuts everything, meats, fruits vegtables. It worked so good I bought another one two days later in a smaler size. Price was excellent - if you cook even just a little bit, you must have this knife

These knives are even better than I'd imagined. They are attractive and the handles have a good comfortable feel, and they are nice 'n sharp! Great gift for anyone who loves to cook/prepare foods. Definitely should not pass up at such a great price. Note: the case is not the greatest quality to keep the knives in at all times (I'm using mine to hold art paintbrushes :)
