I would only recommend this console to a friend who had someone to assist in putting it together and didn't mind a bit of cursing thrown in along the way. Why? The holes do not all line up. I finally resorted to using a cheap ball point pen resuced from the trash to aid me in seeing what was wrong. I determined that the hole into which I needed to insert a screw in no way was aligned with its companion hole. But the pen flexed enough that it could be inserted to connect the holes which was good in another way because I was one washer short - great - tried the screw again just to be sure - no luck - put pen back - it did work ...so I just left the pen in place. Luckily it is in a location where it will never show. The finish is decent. Stain is right over a few gouges in the wood but I could opt to turn that part away from view by laying it out first. Not too heavily varnished the way some cheaper pieces are so it looks more expensive. My original plan didn't work - I bought file baskets for the lower shelf but they were a tad too large. Gave baskets to daughter - she's happy. I'm looking for baskets again. For the price, this is a actually nice piece. It is in my upstairs hall if that helps.

The table looks attractive and serves the purpose. It's not fine furniture and won't probably be around for me to pass along to my grandchildren but for price, it works for me!
