I purchased (2) of these Coventry 3 Drawer Nightstands for our master bedroom after searching many of the local furniture stores. The Coventry Nightstand on Overstock fit the bill perfectly!
Delivery was prompt and the nightstands were put together by my husband in about an hour each. A power screwdriver is a definite must for putting these together though!
Nightstands are sleek and contemporary looking without being too modern and look high end. The 3 drawers provide nice storage and open and close with ease. The wood finish is dark brown/ebony. Drawer knobs are beautiful. Would definitely recommend!
I was looking for 2 nightstands to go with a bed and dresser I already had. It was hard to tell if the color would match by looking online, but now that I seem them, it's a great match. If you have dark wood furniture, this will go well. They are dark brown in color and very sturdy. They are made of real wood; not that cheap partical board in most furniture today. They have great metal drawer slides too. They do sit very tall, so if you have an average-tall bed, they'll be great. I was actually looking for taller nightstands. The 3 drawers are great; you can hide all your junk out of sight! They arrived very quickly and they're packed very well. I did have trouble with just one drawer pull because the threading is off when you insert the screw, but no big deal. The nightstand that matched my bed at the store were $500 each. I'm very happy with these I purchased on line for less than 1/2 the price! They do take awhile to put together; about 1 hour each, but it's worth it. They do have good instructions with this piece; just time consuming. (I'm a female and put 2 together myself.) It's worth it though. This is an excellent piece of furniture; very well built. Love Overstock.com!
I purchased these nightstands because it is difficult to find nightstands in this height; most are much shorter, and they are awkward for use with a thick mattress, box spring and standard metal frame. These took a long time to assemble and the drawer mechanism is very poor. Essentially, I use them only as night tables and do not use the drawers at all.
Did the color match the color displayed onsite? yes
How is the quality of the product? just okay
Did the description onsite accurately describe the product? yes
The nightstand is overall nice. I needed something smaller than average and this was one of the few options that were affordable. I was disappointed when one arrived with a broken door side and it was apparent that the interior drawers were made of MDF not wood. There is no mention of MDF as a material used in this product. It is apparent that the exterior portions of this nightstand is actually wood and it is attractive.
How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Its a little lighter
Please tell us about the quality of the product. Average quality.
How accurate was the on site description of the product? Somewhat - the exterior portions are made of wood but the inside drawers are made of MDF NOT wood.
While the parts that are solid wood look handsome, the rest leaves much to be desired. The drawer sides and bottoms are very cheap. The hardware used to assemble the table is fragile at best. Be extremely careful when tightening any screws so as not to damage the weak rubberwood. The specialty hardware used to hold the drawers together and the table top to the base is very brittle. I sheared 3 of the fasteners before I resorted to wood screws of my own and wood glue on the dowel plugs. This product is a decent table at $100, at $170 I'm sure my money would've been better spent elsewhere.
How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Color was accurate.
Please tell us about the quality of the product. The solid wood table top, legs, and drawer faces are very nice. The rest is composite and cheap.
How accurate was the on site description of the product? Semi-accurate description.
It took soooooo long to put this together (just in steps, I'm not mechanically challenged) that I could have made this thing myself!!!
Maybe that was a little overstated, but I would not have ordered them had I known the number of hours I would have to put in.
They aren't fantastic looking, they're just okay. However, they are very sturdy.
After reading all the reviews, I decided to order this nightstand. Before this, I have ordered 2 other different ones and the qualities were just bad. Nowadays, it's difficult to find solid wood nightstand without paying hell amount of money. Overall, I overcame a few difficulties and decided to keep the nightstand and also order the second.
- Need a power drill- some part didnt have pre-drilled holes for installation.
- Interior drawer- MDF: Be very very careful, be gentles on them, cause they are easy cracked...prepare wood glue just in case
- drawer slider- the installation pages didn't point out there are some difference among the sliders. I taped them together first to make sure the drawers can be closed perfectly.
If you havent found your perfect nightstand, this is something you can give it a try.
Beautiful, high quality piece, looks just like the picture, arrived super quick. Took my husband and I an hour and 45 minutes to put together....TOTALLY WORTH EVERY MINUTE! Bought two of the 1 drawer nightstands for our guest bedroom too :)
The order arrived when promised. Extremely well packaged -- no damage.
We used these new nightstands, as cheap as they are, to replace two 70-year-old nightstands that have maple and walnut veneer, scultped classical or Art-Deco elements, dovetailed drawers, fine joinery, and no chipboard. Just because we were tired of them and they didn't match. Should have our heads examined. Oh, well....
My girlfriend and I needed more than an hour to assemble the first piece, and then maybe an hour for the second (identical) piece, but neither of us are mechanical geniuses. Best to have two people. The directions were OK but could be clearer in some places -- you need a sharp eye for detail to figure out some of the drawings.
The directions specify that you just need a 4 mm Allen wrench, a Phillips head screwdriver (#2 is best), and a rubber mallet. We used a lightweight hammer and a rag as a cushion instead of a rubber mallet to tap components into place when necessary. We also used a variable speed drill as a screwdriver for driving the many chip-board screws in the assembly. Best to set the clutch on the drill to a very low setting (we used 2 out of 5 on our Makita drill) and do the final tightening by hand, as the chipboard is easily stripped. For one of the operations that involve driving a long screw, you will need an extension Phillips head bit. You can do it all with a plain screwdriver, but expect some blisters. All of the pre-drilled holes lined up well and the parts fit together OK.
Biggest complaint about the assembly is the poor quality of the cam-locks that hold the furniture together. The posts that accompany the cam-locks are fine -- good steel; but the cam-locks that capture and hold the ends of the posts are a cheap, weak alloy such that I easily broke three of them accidentally, just by turning them as intended. And many have burrs on them that make it hard to insert them in their pre-drilled receptacles. Fortunately, the manufacturer supplies a few extra parts. Minor complaint: Assembling the drawers, I noticed that some of the drawer sides had split -- not disastrously -- where dowels are placed. We did not force the dowels in, so I was surprised to see this. I don't think these small cracks will affect the function or life or appearance of the unit.
Although the instructions do not call for it, we glued the dowels in place and some of the mating surfaces. If you take this step, don't make any mistakes in the order of assembly or you will have a problem. We used the adhesive because we don't trust the poor quality cam-locks. The drawer bottoms and back of the cabinets are low quality but I think they will be OK under reasonable use.
The drawers operate on good quality "self-closing" metal slides that screw neatly onto the bottoms of the drawer sides. Look carefully at the drawings, because it's easy to put the slides on incorrectly. The instructions do not ask you to drill pilot holes for screws that hold the slides, but we did so as it seemed likely that driving the screws would otherwise split the wood.
We are happy with the appearance and function of the nightstands.
The drawers are 12.24 inches wide, 13.07 inches deep, and 3.78 inches high.overstockcustomercare1 on Sep 28, 2012
Is the back the same as the sides? I will not have it against a wall.akgirl37 on Jul 23, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The back is Not the same as the sides. It is a piece of black stained wood applied with black screws.nanny621 on Dec 19, 2012
No, the back panel is made of what feels like balsa wood, very light weight - not the same composition as the side panels. Overall, the visible sides and front of the end table are a thicker, more substantial wood species. The end tables are not flimsy at all, very substantial!abasney on Apr 22, 2013
The back is not made of the same material and does not look as nice. It is best against a wall.ceeceez on Jul 13, 2013
