Can you tell me how far off the ground the base is? Can it be used on a composite deck? If so, should a carpet or base be underneath?

Thank you for shopping Overstock.com. The legs are 5" off the ground. I personally would recommend that you not put it on wood or composite base. I have a fire pit and have it put on a tile base or stone (while camping I make sure that it is on dirt or rock) so that it won't harm the wood deck.
