Upon arrival packages were in good condition, however upon opening them, planks within the boxes were damaged around the tongue/ groove areas. These planks are very, very thin. It is easy to understand why they break easily. Installation was extremely frustrating. First of all, absolutely no instructions are included in the packaging. However, you can figure out what website to go to from information printed on the box stating who manufactured the product. This information is not given in the product description and would have been nice to know ahead of time. Product installation instructions can be found on the manufacturers website. Installation, even with instructions is frustrating, tiring and almost not existent. Planks do not fit properly together, (perhaps the reason it is an overstock). Upon getting one row to fit together properly the next row does not. You have to fit the pieces together along the short edge as well as the long edge of the previous row at the same time. And the tongue and groove design does not hold them together. About half way through installing the floor in a room and ready to tear it out, throw it all away and buy something somewhere else. The product is not staying together and we don't even have it finished. Concerned that due to even small gaps between planks due to the fact that the tongue and groove does not fit together properly that dirt and any amount of moisture has the potential to cause damage. The core is a fiberboard type material which will absorb moisture and be damaged instantly if it does get any amount of moisture. I don't know of any home or commercial institution that doesn't get any amount of moisture on the floor. Even if it a spill were cleaned immediately, there is definitely a potential for the floor to be damaged from the inside out. Also, the manufacturer does not recommend sealing the floors. Most do to protect the edges where planks meet from allowing moisture and dirt to get in. You do need to buy underlayment, despite what the description states. If they told you who the manufacturer was you would learn that beforehand. The actual cork surface is very thin, more so than most and probably will wear prematurely and have a greater possibility of being damaged. Even just with cutting the planks, the top cork layer has chipped away at the edges. Bottom line, please buy cork flooring somewhere else.
- How did the color on site compare with the actual product? darker - think dark chocolate bar
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. poor, pieces do not fit together properly, pieces damaged upon arrival, flimsy design
- How accurate was the on site description of the product? somewhat, needs more clarification on what the planks are made of, thickness, and manufacturer
It is a very pretty floor but it is not as easy to install as I first thought. I was disappointed that it came with absolutely no installation instructions or care instructions. Be aware that you can't cut this with just a blade like they usually instruct you to cut cork. It is way to hard, I had to use a chop-saw and dremmel. Also, it is not your typical tongue and grove, and you can't simply slide one board into the other making it a bit difficult to make the boards fit tightly together. It is not so bad if you can use a pull bar and a hammer. Overall I am satisfied, since I only had to install this in a half bathroom. I would have hated installing it in a larger room. Instructions would have probably made my 3 hour trial and error go a lot faster. I only installed 20sf!
