My husband has built himself a man cave with a gas stove. He thought he had to pay a fortune for cast iron cookware. I told him I would find pieces that he would love and not be costly. He loves cooking now and food tastes great cooked in cast iron.

I purchased the Lodge 5-piece cast iron cookware as a gift for my husband who always wanted to cook with cast iron. Great product and Overstock's price could not be beat. The box arrived a little worse for the wear, but there was like 20 lbs of cast iron in the box. We have cooked on a few of the pieces and though they come pre-seasoned, be sure and use a little oil anyway, as there was some sticking, and oil again after cleaning. Will be looking for more pieces to expand the set.

Even heat distribution. No darkening of interior after cooking with tomatoes, paprika, turmeric, etc. Love the condensation bumps on the lid. Smooth, beautiful finish.

After using this cast iron pot for a while it became impossible to clean, and ended up with many dark rings on both the outside and the inside. I am disgusted to have bought this, and will from now on ONLY buy ** *******, even though their cookware is very expensive.

I love Lodge cookware. I have several pieces, but this was such a good buy I knew I had to order. Basically, I ordered because of the dutch oven. I did not have, but really enjoy.

This set of Lodge Cast Iron was exactly as described and the fine quality one would expect from Lodge products. However, when I received the set, the handle on the smallest skillet was completely broken off - I didn't even know cast iron could break, but this was. Overstock replaced it immediately and I've had no problems since. Great set of Cast Iron cookware at a great price!

You can't go wrong with Lodge cast iron cookware. It cooks perfectly. I use the set a lot from cooking corn bread in the oven to vegetables on the stove. Just be sure to clean and store correctly to maintain the seasoned coating. No harsh soaps or scrubbing or it will ruin the coating.

Lodge castware does not require praise. It is a class on its own. Learn how to properly care for a lodge pan or pot and it will last forever. One way to speed up the conditioning process that smooths the product is to do as much deep frying as possible. The oil contributes to the patina (black finish) and protects the iron from rust.

I bought this Lodge skillet set and use it all the time. I love that it came pre-seasoned. I wash them with plain water and a plastic scrubber. Wipe them dry , grease them ever so lightly and they cook great. I fried eggs on the griddle and they slide right off. Love them. Would recommend them to anyone who is tired off replacing skillets all the time.

This is a good starter set. The skillets aren't big enough for large meals, but like I said ...it's a good starter set. They are preseasoned, so as long as you follow instructions on use and care, you shouldn't have a problem. I'm very much enjoying my set.

The frying pan came with the handle off. It was very poorly packaged for such a very heavy pan.

I have used the skillets regularly after I seasoned them and have gotten very good cooking results.
Cast-iron cookware has long been a chef's favorite for its even, slow heat and durability. Cast-iron cookware lasts for generations as long as it is well taken care of. Regular seasoning creates a natural non-stick surface and protects the cookware from rusting. Here are the step-by-step instructions for how to season and care for your cast-iron cookware.
Once you cook with cast iron, you'll understand why people are so attached to this sturdy, efficient cookware. When well-seasoned and cared for properly, cast-iron cookware can last generations and will provide an excellent natural, nonstick surface. Cooking with cast-iron pots and pans isn't much different than using other types of pots and pans, but there are a few important techniques you should be aware of in order to get the most out of your cast-iron cookware.
The key to choosing cookware lies not in price but in matching the material to your needs. Cookware can be made from a variety of products, and not all these products are built the same. In order to get the most efficiency and use from your kitchen, it is best to look for cookware that suits your preferred method of cooking as well as your desire to put in time keeping that cookware clean and useful. You want to get cookware that is not only durable but also efficient.
To get the best results from your cookware, it's important to know which cookware will work best with your electric cooktop. While all pots and pans can be used with an electric stove, different cookware works better with different surfaces. Electric cooktops range from the conventional metal-coil burner to glass-top halogen units, radiant heat burners and induction stove tops that use electromagnetic energy to heat food. To learn which type of cookware will work best with your electric range, keep reading.
The right cookware can make working in the kitchen a real joy. It's all about the metal, because that is the vehicle that delivers heat to food. Before you shop for cookware, consider the different types of metals and their benefits.
Stainless steel frying pans are frequently used by professional chefs and serious cooks at home. Unlike cast-iron fry pans, stainless steel fry pans do not need to be seasoned before use; and unlike nonstick fry pans, you will need to use oil to avoid food sticking to the surface of your stainless steel fry pan and even then, some food will still stick. While these facts might seem like disadvantages, they're actually the reasons why many cooks prefer to use stainless steel fry pans. High-quality stainless steel cookware may not be the best for cooking things like eggs, but for the most flavorful searing of fish, meat and vegetables, stainless steel fry pans are unrivaled. The following steps will teach you how break in your stainless steel fry pan before each use.
Choosing the perfect cookware is a matter of personal preference and cooking style, but understanding the differences can help every cook. Professional chefs agree that every household needs an 8- to 10-inch skillet, a 5- to 7-quart sauce pan and a stock pot. Choose pans that fit your needs, and you will love cooking with them.
There are many types of pots and pans in a variety of materials to choose from. One of the most versatile pieces of cookware for any kitchen is the skillet. The types of skillet you may choose from vary in cost, materials and ease of cleanup. While plenty of skillet choices exist, selecting the one that best suits your needs will help make every dish a success.
Whether you're frying eggs or making a gourmet meal, you need a quality skillet to cook with. Some of the most frequently used cookware items, skillets, also known as fry pans, are made of various metals, with or without nonstick coatings. You can also buy an electric skillet to cook breakfast or dinner foods quickly. With the many skillet options available, you may be unsure of the right pans to buy. This guide will provide you with tips on buying the best skillet for your kitchen.

Broiling pans and roasting pans both have specific uses. While there are many similarities between broiling pans and roasting pans, they each specialize in different areas. Roasting pans are normally used to prepare larger cuts of meat because of the deeper shape, which allows the meat to cook in its own juices. Broilers have a shallow, slotted base. The shallow sides of the broiler allow the food to cook more quickly while the slotted bottom of the broiler allows drippings to drain into a pan underneath.
If you're in the market for a new kitchen range, you'll find a wide number of ranges and ovens. Whether you want a gourmet stove with eight burners or an apartment-size kitchen range, a few basic tips will help make your purchase easier. When selecting a kitchen range, your home's energy source, the available space and your budget are the main considerations. Here are a few tips to help you get started looking for a new range for your kitchen.
They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, but in many homes, it's also the biggest source of energy waste. Kitchen lighting, refrigeration and cooking consume about 41.5 percent of the total home energy use; add space heating, cooling, and water heating to that total, and you'll see your kitchen is quite the energy hog. Creating an eco-friendly kitchen includes your choice of appliances, but it also goes beyond that; the floors, paint, pots and pans, and other kitchen items you use can make your kitchen eco-friendly as well.
