adp2525 from Portland, OR, Rating:2.0I contacted Overstock before buying this item to find out where it was made. They replied and informed me it was made in Japan. Imagine my surprise when I opened the package and there was a big gold "Made in China" sticker on the surikogi (wooden pestle) and no origin labeling on the suribachi (mortar). I would have been happy to pay more for this item elsewhere to ensure that I wasn't buying something for food preparation made in China given the melamine (food) and cadmium (toys) fiascos in the past and had hoped that contacting Overstock directly would have prevented this. Very disappointed.

bwanabon from Massachusetts, Rating:5.0The bowls are great, meet my needs exactly. Nesting gives me four bowls, takes up very little space. Only drawback is that saran-type wraps do not cling to the wood0-like surface.
