I've ordered [essentially] this same frame twice and been extremely pleased both times. I bought a full size frame from the Dosmusindo company called the 'Contemporary Shaker Platform Bed' the first time around. This time, I purchased a queen size 'Contemporary Shaker Sleigh Bed' frame, also from Domusindo. These are essentially identical frames except the headboard on the Platform is 40 in. high, while the headboard on the Sleigh is 50 in. high. Also the Platform has a role of multiple slats that sit across the frame to support the mattress, while the Sleigh has about 4 slightly larger slats to provide mattress and box spring support. Other than those two points, the bed styles are identical. Same finish color, same headboard shape, same frame height. On both, the distance from the floor to the bottom of the frame is 8 inches. I went with the style that had the 50 in. headboard this time around since our new mattress set is much taller than the set we bought almost ten years ago. I would highly suggest measuring out the total size of your box springs and mattress before going with the 40 in. Platform version, since that might not provide much actual headboard height behind your pillows. The 50 in. Sleigh headboard is a perfect height with our new (and ridiculously tall) mattress set. Set-up was easy. The frame is solid and doesn't shake or wobble. The finish (on both versions) is a beautiful rich, dark mahogany -- not too red. It easily blends with our dark brown furniture. An added bonus is the headboard sits close to the wall and doesn't bow out too far if you have a small bedroom and are short on space.Read More
My mattresses have been on the floor for years. It is really great to slide out of bed instead of dragging myself out. It looks very nice in the room, as well.Read More
My new husband and I decided to look online to narrow down the styles we like, not intending to buy an entire bed assembly online. But buy we did! He prefers modern, I like traditional. This is a mission style, which pleases us both. The entire bed was easily put together by my two sons, 23 and 26. And it is beautiful. The color is a rich mahogany, not too red and not too brown. The quality is excellent, with nicely finished corners and edges. Delivery was handled by a local carrier, which went perfectly smoothly. And best of all is the price. I am a big Overstock fan. This just reinforces my loyalty.Read More
This bed is very good quality - especially for the price. It assembled easily and is quite sturdy. I might put in a few more slats under the mattress - but it doesn't really need them. I also thought I would have to reinforce the joints - but it is remarkably sturdy 'as is.'I also want to commend Overstock for its responsive customer service. We also ordered two side tables and one arrived damaged. When I notified Overstock they immediately sent a replacement. They also responded within 24 hours to any question I had about delivery schedule etc.To be honest, I wasn't sure we would get such great service since we have never bought anything here before - but I am quite impressed - both with the quality of the furniture and the customer service.I highly recommend!Read More
I reviewed 17 platform beds from nearly as many vendors and this bed was second only to another selection from Overstock. The closest selection from a vendor other than Overstock was $50 more (which isn¿t such a big deal in the grand scheme of things when you¿re buying a bed), but they were also going to charge me an additional fee to deliver it to my door instead of dropping it at the curb and it was going to take a minimum of 2 weeks to arrive. Overstock delivered the bed to my door in just under a week. Its appearance and sturdiness are exactly what you¿d expect ¿ especially for the price and the only thing you need to supply is a Phillips head screwdriver as everything else is included. Issues: the stain will need some touch-up as there are spots (for example, where some of the slats meet the top of the headboard) where there are visibly lighter ¿lines¿ of unstained wood/veneer and the slats were all different lengths thus it was impossible to align the length of slats (they¿re attached to each other with strips of canvas) with each of the predrilled pilot holes so you had to pick and choose which ones to screw into the base (moreover, they only provide enough screws for you to attach half of the slats). It¿s helpful, but certainly not necessary, to have two people at this stage so one person can adjust the sideboards and/or hold the list of slats in place while the other one aligns the slats and screws them into the base. You could always purchase additional screws and elect not to use the predrilled pilot holes, but there¿s no need to do so as the bed is just fine as is with the materials provided. The color is, indeed, very red. However, it¿s exactly what I expected from the photos so I wasn¿t surprised or unhappy about this. If you¿re looking for something with more brown tones or perhaps something with deeper auburn tones, you might want to check other options. If you¿re looking for a platform bed with clean lines that isn¿t boxy or boring, this is a great option. The gently curved headboard complements the simple lines of the piece and we actually plan to purchase another one for one of our other homes.Read More
The wood appeared to be a cherry walnut, but is extremely red in person. Still a nice bed and will keep it.Read More
I just recently received this bed. The shipping was really fast and the bed looks beautiful! Just in time for my housewarming and had tons of compliments. I assembled it on my own with only minor difficulty (the screw holes for the slats lining up). Overall I'd say it was a super great deal!Read More
I ordered the Newport Low-profile Queen-size Bed from overstock.com. It arrived within two weeks of ordering. When I initially did a search on “O” I was seeking a platform bed. The Newport Low-profile bed came up in the search. First, it is NOT a platform bed. There is a Newport platform bed, this is not it. The Platform bed, from what I read, is 40 plus inches high, the non-platform is 50 inches high. Second, there is nothing “low profile” about it. With my new Serta Mattress and box, the top of the mattress is 36 inches off the floor - if you are shorter than 5'8" you are going to need a step stool (or ladder) to climb in bed. When my Newport Low-profile Queen-size Bed arrived it was in two boxes. The first was the headboard and footboard and the second box was the side rails and slats. This bed might be made of “tropical solids”, if it is, it is mahogany scraps and composite materials. The stain is extremely red, like a cheap mahogany stain. The packages came with only three bed slats - the description says 4. Either way, the warranty on my Serta mattress set requires a minimum of five slats with center support, or the warranty is void. The center support screw mechanism broke apart the first day. I went to the local hardware store and purchased four more lengths of one by pine to add more structural support to the bed. I like the shaker style of the bed and the minimalist footboard, but the bottom line is the bottom line, you get what you pay for.Read More
Questions & Answers
Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not specify whether these slats are equipped with center supports. We will do our best to find out and post an answer soon.
Yes, each slat has 1 center support leg.
How high is the footboard? The picture offered covers the footboard.
The footboard is 5 inches tall. The top of the footboard is about 13 inches above the ground.
Can the headboard be used alone on a regular metal frame?
The headboard can be attached to most metal bed frames without modification.
The headboard connects to the side rails using a L bracket system. The L bracket is preinstalled on the side rails and connects to threaded inserts in the headboard with 2 phillips bolts on each side of the bed. The headboard can be attached to most metal bed frames without modification. In some cases you may need to use an adaptor plate or modi plate to match up the holes.
Is this a platform bed? or can accommodate a box spring?
A box spring is needed for this bed; it is not a platform bed.
Because the side rails and footboard are only about 5 inches high, the manufacturer recommends using this bed frame with a bunkyboard or superpallet. A low profile foundation would also be suitable but would be partially visible above the top of the side rail.
