The lamp does not shine as bright as I had hoped. It was replacing a halogen floor lamp that I loved. The assembly was difficult for one person. It does seem to be built a lot more sturdier than ones I shopped for at local department stores.
I purchased 2 of these, and was surprised at how heavy of a base these had,not tippy at all. Then the amount of light that these put out is NOTHING like any other lamp I've owned. I have 9 foot ceilings with no other lamps in the room and these take the place of 3 tablelamps I used to use and give off much more light, plus they are on a dimmer! Fantastic !
Yes, it is a nice looking lamp once assembled. It has a heavy stand so it will not fall over if jarred; it also has a wonderful dimmer switch that works. I do not like florescent lights (which this is) but I needed to go for brightness. The metal band along the top needs to be attached and there is no mention of that in the directions. I tried to put it together myself but I did not have enough hands. I finally needed to call one of my handy male friends for help. It took me longer to get it out of the box than it did to put it together - you need more than 2 hands!
Seems difficult to find a reasonable priced halogen torchiere with dimmer anymore. This is a viable alternative. Construction is solid, except for ring around shade, but it's merely decorative and the instructions don't tell you that you must bend the flanges to get it to stay on. The shade is plastic vs glass, but looks like glass and is heavy duty. It casts good light and the dimmer really works well with this item. I'm impressed. A bit more traditional styling than I wanted, but definitely a viable alternative for the right type of light and features.
As in other reviews it would have been difficult to figrue out how to put the metal ring on the shade if I had not read the other reviews. (bend the little metal tabs) The lamp does not put out as much light as a 300 watt halogen and this was a disappointment.. Thie fit of the shade to the top pole was poor but not noticable from any distance. We thought the style of the lamp was very well done and fit the room it was ment for quit well,
This lamp is truly ugly, particularly the base which is pock marked on purpose! I bought it for the 300 watt bulb, but I don't find it nearly as bright as a halogen, for example. I think the picture is not a clear depiction of the object which is heavy and clumsy looking. The problem is, once you've got something this heavy in the mail, how do you return it?
