USE THE PAPER FILTER, not the brass basket. The coffee will be stronger and tastier. There are two downsides to this coffee maker, though on the whole it makes some darn good coffee. First downside is cleaning it. It must be thoroughly cleaned every single time and you must completely dry the grinder before use, requiring more work than I desire. Secondly, the coffee was tasteless and watery when using the brass screen basket (included) versus the PAPER BASKET WHICH DELIVERED A GREAT TASTING CUP OF COFFEE. If I hadn't tried the paper filter, I would've returned the coffee-maker.

If you need coffee first thing in the am and then drink for an hour, this is your coffee maker. Timer along with the thermal pot were requirements for me. I had to replace my Krups (so sad) and this had good reviews. I'm happy.

My Cafe is well made with quality materials. I have only had the My Cafe for one month, but I've already fallen in love. It's easy to use, easy to clean and makes a great cup of coffee. I haven't tried making tea as I am not sure it steeps black tea as long as required, but the water is hot enough for brewing.. I've owned two other expensive single cup brewers and the My Cafe, is by far the best. Each cup of coffee can be made to you personal taste. I use higher end coffee and prefer a strong bold taste. The My Cafe makes a better cup than my French Press. I highly recommend the My Cafe over any other single brew system.

I spent several months reading product reviews and considering different single-cup brewers before selecting the Bunn MyCafe MCU. I am exceptionally pleased with it. Firstly, the price is quite affordable compared with other single-cup brewers. Secondly, it has a small counterspace footprint and compact design. This is in part becasue it does not have a large water tank - you do have to add water with each use. This is quite ok with me, because water is not getting stale. Adding water with each use also means I get to control the exact volume I want for each cup - from 8 to 14 oz. The interchangeable brew heads do require a little bit of extra storage space. The industrial style may not be for everyone, but I found its minimalist stainless design adapted suprisingly well in my transitional-style kitchen. Thirdly - and most importantly! - this brewer makes a great cup of coffee. And cocoa. And tea. I appreaciate its versatility - you can use K-cups, pods, tea bags, or loose coffee. I have used <ahem> other machines at friends' homes and office lobbies, and this Bunn machine produces a much better tasting cup. The pulse option (one of only two buttons on the minimalist machine) is also useful, especially for ground coffee or tea bags, for getting a noticeably stronger flavor that I found quite satisfying. This machine also makes hot water, which I use to make oatmeal and hot honey. Finally, cleaup is super easy. The fresh grounds drawer is simple to dump and rinse after each use. K-cups are even easier. The drip tray and all four of the machine's drawers are top-rack dishwasher-safe. Bottom Line: It's the perfect brewer for regular coffee drinkers, especially ones who might be curious about the convenience of K-Cups but reluctant to abandon fresh grounds. The My Cafe gives you both, and then some.

OK, so I committed a lot of due diligence in buying this coffee maker. I'm responsible for brewing coffee for myself and better half each and every morning, so I wanted a "nice" coffee maker with none of the cheesy clock/timer buttons that break, heating element that rusts out and burns the coffee, etc... WITHOUT A DOUBT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE BUNN COFFEEMAKER BTX CARAFE MODEL ------ IF YOU KEEP A COUPLE THINGS IN MIND. I have gleaned this list based on various feedback comments, online research and, of course, my personal experience. 1. YOU MUST USE "BUNN" FILTERS ONLY!!! Theses are specifically made for use with Bunn coffee makers due to the nozzle pressure to have the coffee brew faster. These are available at Walmart for less than $2.00 for a pack of 100. So, if you're reading negative feedback on grinds in the coffee, that's why -- they are not using "BUNN" made coffee filters. Some people see this a negative thing, but Bunn has engineered what I believe, a coffee brewing system second to none. Everything must work together, like cogs in a machine. Therefore, I have no problem using these filters - inexpensive and, like I said easy to get -- Walmart, of all places. 2. YOU MUST KEEP THE COFFE POT/CARAFE CLEAN!!! At least on the inside of the pot. YOU MAY HAVE READ "THE POT LEAKS ALL OVER THE COUNTER, ETC". My personal experience -- it will leak, IF IT IS NOT CLEAN. In fact, that's how I know it's time to clean it! The top is a screw on top in the carafe, which seals nicely and securely, preventing leakage. IF I NOTICE THE CARAFE LEAKING WHEN POURING-- A. I re-screw the lid on to ensure proper fit B. I visually inspect the inside of the Carafe. If it is brownish, I CLEAN WITH WATER AND CAPFUL OF BLEACH. LET STAND AND SWOOSH THE WATER A LITTLE BIT AND VOILA -- the inside is sparkling clean again. The 2 above solutions have solved the leaky problem 100% of the time. One of the things I love about this coffee maker is the fact that it does not leak. 3. NO TIMERS!!! The BTX will brew a full potful coffee in 3 minutes or less. So, again, keep a few things in mind. A. No buttons, clocks, digital electronics gizmos means less will break. I welcome the less is more approach. B. I prepare the coffee the night before I wake up. I empty the grinds, wash the filter holder out, replace with a clean GENUINE BUNN FILTER, put in 4-5 scoops of coffee, rinse the CARAFE thoroughly (unless a deeper cleaning is required, as per above). It is, basically ready to go for the next morning. OK, so no timers means that the next morning I simply add water to the coffee maker using a large cup that I have pre-measured to fill the water reservoir completely. That's it! 3 minutes later a full pot of coffee is good-to-go. C. Repeat B daily. 4. THE COFFEE IS ***HOT***. PERIOD. there is no other way to put it. To brew a full pot of coffee in 3 minutes requires a reservoir full of preheated water, which this unit has behind the carafe. THOUGH I'VE BEEN USNG THE BTX A YEAR, I STILL GET AN OCCASIONAL "BURN" AND MY WIFE HAS AS WELL. Folks, there is no other way to put it. This is a trade off for a turbo fast brewing machine. I personally do not like hot coffee, some people do prefer hot coffee. In fact, just this morning, Wednesday July 31st 2013, I have added some ice to my coffee (which I brewed 2.5 hours ago and is just now tepid). So, use caution and attention when brewing, pouring and drinking the freshly brewed coffee. YES THE INSULATED CARAFE KEEPS THE COFFEE "HOT" (and I am not taking about "warm"), for HOURS!! crazy as it seems when I come from work, some 10-12 hours after brewing, I prepare the coffee maker for the next day (as per above) and I can see steam and feel the warmth from poured coffee!! CRAZY!! But, again, this a coffee brewing MACHINE. In closing, I DO NOT WORK FOR BUNN!! I am just a pleased, actually, impressed customer with the BTX. It's nice to see quality, detail and style in a well-engineered product these days. I use the word "engineered" purposely, because this is a machine and should be used as such -- all parts must work together -- including, yes, using, ONLY BUNN FILTERS! And a CLEAN CARAFE! I am so pleased overall with this unit I felt compelled to write this review 1 year after purchasing it. Hope this helps all of those due-diligence, fact-checking, customer feedback-reviewing, multiple consumer site monitoring, bargain hunters out there who want ALL OF THE DETAILS (I even read the owners manuals PRIOR to purchasing a product) folks out there. Keep the above points in mind and you will not be disappointed with this unit THE ONE AND ONLY TURBO COFFEE BREWING MACHINE BTX-B.

If you are in a dorm or really small living space, and just want average coffee everyday, then I would say then buy this. It is very small, with small but nicely made mugs and does not require much watching. If your looking for great amaazing coffee and a maker that can make great big mugs or jugs of coffee, I recommend something else.

Hadn't considered this aspect when I purchased it, but the grinder assembly needs to be taken apart, cleaned and dried after each use before you can add new beans to be ground, as the brew process makes everything inside the unit damp. (This doesn't come into play when the grinder and coffee maker are separate units.) Having said that, I'm keeping the coffee maker as I like the thermos and I found the coffee, once brewed, was good!

Black and Decker is a great name and coffee makers have been around a while. That is why I was so surprised that advertised features worked poorly. The Sneak-a-Cup feature slowed the coffee flow down to a rapid drip when the pot of coffee was removed during brewing to sneak a cup. Any time 10 or more cups of coffee are brewed the grounds overflow the basket. The grinds don't make it into the coffee pot but it does require unplugging the coffee maker, taking the whole thing over to the sink to clean the out.

I have used a Cuisinart Grind & Brew for many years. I am trying this Black & Decker because of problems with the design of the G&B. This product works well, has multiple grind options, I am still playing with the amount of beans for a perfect cup. I like this, it is very easy to clean after each use, all I need to do is dump the grounds, wash the basket and rinse the carafe. My only complaint is that the coffee is not hot enough for me. On the original Cuisinart G&B there was a heat setting, they scraped that idea on the current model, bad mistake. This pot works well, is very attractive, and easy to clean. I am happy with my purchase, would buy this again, but worry that the basket attachment will not last forever, since the blades and entire assembly is in the basket. Great ida, as long as it continues to work as it does right now.
