I really like this product. The material appears to be some type of maple with choice of either a honey or dark color finish. The parts are beautifully finished and the towers assemble very easily. I like to mount the towers off the floor but resting on the top edge of the closet base board. That way it is easy to vacuum underneath. The modular design allows one to adjust the dimensions to fit your particular application (I shortened the height of one of mine by trimming about a foot off the base and re-attaching the base oversize-shelf using screws into the vertical struts). The wall-mounting hardware worked perfectly. I am not a fan of the twist-cam assembly systems (the aluminum cams break too often for me) but these work reasonably well here. As an added improvement, though, I beef up the joints by adding a single screw at each joint - - I find a 2" or 2.25" #9 auger tip finish screw (very small, star or square-drive head) in a one sixteenth" pilot hole works very well. It should be noted that you will need at least one additional shelf kit. I have two systems mounted right now and I plan to add the same in two more closets. Great system!

The Long and Short of it...First - I'm a Girl! (A Girl with average strength and DIY skills, but a Girl just the same) I wanted to upgrade the closets in my 1950's house in Ft Lauderdale and after checking into some of the closet contractor pricing, felt that I could get similar results at a third of the price if I did the job myself. I bought two Deluxe Red Mahogany kits, one for a 10ft wide reach in closet and one for my smaller 6 x 4 walk-in. I saw them at one of the Hardware Superstores and the same kit was $$ more so I saved $$$ at Overstock and enjoyed shipping! The kits arrived in large cartons well packed and protected and unlike many of these systems where midway through the project, you find they have forgotten to include something that invariably takes weeks to arrive, the inventory matched the packing list. I started on the 10ft closet first and though it did take me two days, the resulting build in is spectacular and even my handyman was impressed with the quality of the kit not to mention that I was able to do it myself. : ) The most important part of the install is the measuring (oh, and beer!). Measure and mark and measure again. Particularly with the tower brackets, of you get this sideways, the shelves won't fit. Get your level out and spot check your widths (do this before you drink too many beers! lol). Though I tried to drill into studs where possible, I did have to purchase a box of different wall anchors ($) as the ones included in the kit were unsuitable for the type of plaster in this older 50's house. In this install, I had a leftover piece of shelving that I cut down into an additional tower shelf and by drilling in four pin holes, was able to gain an extra storage space (it comes with additional shelf pins which was nice). If you don't have any extra shelving, you might want to buy the tower shelf kit in addition, as the base kit only supplies two shelves for a six foot tower. My boyfriend very kindly helped me install the 6x4 walk in system and it went much more quickly even though the configuration was different. The additional storage space is great and so much more efficient than the old home built shelves that were there when I bought the house. All in all, these two improvements look fantastic and I saved a LOT of money by investing my time, not to mention, improved my DIY skills and built my confidence in my abilities. Love this product - just get your tools out and get started and before you know it, you will be enjoying a custom fitted closet!

My husband and I installed 2 Deluxe 16" Honey Maple Closet systems with an additional stand alone tower and additional shelving. We consider ourselves "do-it-yourselfers". The product arrived on schedule with all pieces included and no damage to boxes or contents. Overstock mistakenly shipped one wrong item to us, but promptly re-ordered the correct item for us. Overstock's Customer Service Rep (Clinton?) was very professional and apologetic about the mistake. We had the carrier pick up and return the incorrect merchandise at no charge or inconvenience to us. John Louis does a great job with its packaging (thick cardboard, heavy-duty boxes along with ziploc-style bags that individually held all the screws and other hardware needed for each unit and accessories). Packing materials were wrapped around the contents/shelves, etc. for added protection. What we found very helpful were not only the written instructions included with the shipment, but also the website instructional video that showed examples of how to install the closet system. We worked on the project over a weekend, installing the system in our newly created 11.7'x8' closet. Once we completed a section, it was fairly straightforward on how to assemble the closet components together. We also ordered an extra stand alone tower, to which we added 7 shelves (some slanted and some flat for shoes and sweaters. The stain color seems true to the photos shown online and the system seems very sturdy in what seems to be a very nice Maple hardwood. The design in very attractive and the ventilated shelves will offer a nice airflow around the clothes. Here is the configuration/layout we opted for: Left wall: 48" upper and lower short hangs; 1 tower from kit with 3-8" drawers, 2-6" drawers and 2 shelve sections creating 3 shelf sections; 24" short hang on top with a 24" shelf on lower section, with valet rod attached. Right Wall: 24" upper hang attached to a 48" shelf above connecting to a stand-alone tower that rests upon the floor (valet rod attached). Side Mount Tie & Belt Rack attached inside right side of this 24" hanging areaWindow in between where we'll place a storage bench below window. Continuing next to window: 48" upper and lower short hangs. We used a haxsaw to cut the metal clothes poles and a radial arm saw to cut the shelves into smaller pieces (masking tape on area that was cut to help keep wood edges from fraying). We have 2-6' metal clothes poles leftover (because of the configuration we chose) so we'll keep and use those towards a future project (along with a variety of misc. extra screws, etc. as John Louis gives extras just in case). We highly recommend John Louis; it's a great product that is few steps above the box store options and a great option compared to the top-name closet systems that cost much more and, in our opinion, possibly not as nice in that some are not even real hardwood.

I love this closet shelf system. I compared several different closet systems before buying this one. All high quality systems are about the same price. Some are more adaptable than others - this system is the most flexible. I was able to mix the deluxe closet system (16' shelf depth) on both sides of my walk-in closet with a standard shelf (12") across the back wall that supported a stand alone tower unit. I like the metal closet rods on the deluxe closet system instead of the wood closet rods on the standard (12" shelf) closet system. Get ready to spend some time installing all the parts. The finished product is well worth it!

Strong and sturdy solution to the age-old problem of laundry. We hung this in a JLH tower and put doors over it to hide it. It's easy to just open the doors, slide the basket forward, drop in the clothing, slide the basket back, then shut the doors. Voila! - laundry hidden yet easily accessible when it's laundry time. We put the towers up in our bedroom, right on the walls, and filled the bottom half with drawers, with doors on the upper parts (shelves behind the doors, obviously). Thus the towers function as dressers and wardrobes, while looking far better than most dressers and wardrobes, giving a clean, modern vibe to the room. Having our clothing storage hung on the walls of the bedroom also makes the room look larger, since the floor can now be seen all the way out to the baseboards (it's a well known decorating trick to keep as much of the floor visible as possible to make a room look and feel larger). Wall hung storage also makes cleaning a lot easier - no recessed toekicks, such as with dressers and wardrobes, where dust and grime can accumulate. This laundry basket is a much better solution than what we had been using before (a storage ottoman with a hinged lid), as it's much easier to get the laundry out with this basket than lifting it out the ottoman. We have the basket liner (that has handles) which helps even more. All in all, the entire John Louis Home system is a great solution that I would encourage people to consider just using in place of dressers and wardrobes, instead of only using the system in closets. The finish (we have the red mahogany color) is elegant enough to have out in rooms, not just closets.

I just remodeled my basement into an apartment and in my master bedroom I have a huge walk in closet. This closet system fit perfectly and I was able to configure it so I could use it on 2 seperate walls. I put the main system on the big wall and had enough left over to put a 4ft shelf and clothes bar on another wall. The only issue I had was that I needed to buy additional L brackets for the 2 ends of they system. I had to do this because I didn't have another wall to attach the end to. No big deal and the whole system is very secure.I was actually surprised at how sturdy the whole system is. I was also concerned about the depth of the shelves but the 12" depth works just fine. I was able to put several items on each shelf with no issue at all.2 pieces of advice...don't over-tighten the screws in the system and find studs. I drew a level line and screwed along the line to verify I had the studs...if you miss... the hole is hidden by the shelf and this way you are guaranteed to hit the stud. I also screwed the bottom hole on the L bracket along this line so the pencil line wouldn't be visible and every bracket was level.Enjoy the upgrade to your closet

I bought this system for my daughter's closet. We used every inch of the product. The closet is the size of a piece of plywood (4 x 8). We could have spaced it a bit different and used less possibly. Now that the system is on the wall, I think that the deluxe version would have been nicer. The standard is deep but I now want the deeper one. There is no way that I am going to change the system now. The wood is solid and is not going anywhere. It looks nice on the wall.

This closet system is fabulous! We installed it in our newly remodeled master bedroom and it really POPS when you open the closet doors. The installation was fairly time consuming - it took us 6-7 hours to install, and my boyfriend is pretty handy. The instructions were pretty easy to follow, but it takes some time to get everything level and anchored to the walls. I would definitely recommend this closet system!

Added this to my deluxe tower system for our master, love the look and works well with the shelves and was not to difficult to assemble , just put pins in the ends and insert into the tower sides, which the deluxe tower system was a little more difficult to get together and get assembled and attached to the wall, but looks custom

This is a very nice, all wood closet system that works perfectly in my daughter's room. She doesn't have an actual closet and we have this up against a wall. The only negative is that the drawers that I ordered are 14" and do not work. I had to order two more shelves and return the drawers.

We bought a new house and installed John Louis Deluxe closets in all 3 reach-in and 1 walk in closet. The closets took time to install but once i figured out the first, the others were easy to install. The walk in have 2 closet systems in opposite wall and it took me 10-12 hours to install but they came up looking nicer and more inexpensive than any of the other branded closet systems we looked at.

This system is certainly of high quality! We are extremely pleased with the change this has made to our closet's organization. We took the advice of another reviewer and hired someone to install it, as it seemed daunting to us. The installer did a great job, but did struggle with how to begin. Apparently, some of the initial starting points were tricky because the system doesn't go all the way to the ground - there are no pieces that extend to the floor. The "floating" design was just a little trickier than others he'd worked with. We used it on a 12' wall, and he added a vertical support beam at the end since it didn't go all the way to the opposite wall. In the end, though, it's completely sturdy (probably would have been even without the support beam added, but better safe than sorry!), even on our 12' wall. We love it!

The John Louis closet system is very well made and the wood is beautiful. It does take a bit of time to install especially if you have to cut pieces to size (i.e., closet system is sold to fit a 10 foot length wall but you may not have that length), but the instructions are pretty thorough. Try to find studs if you can because the closet system is fairly heavy. Dealing with customer service for the manufacturer can't be more easier or satisfactory. If you mess up or just need some extra parts, they ship it out to you right away without question. Overall, well worth the money and effort. Overstock is cheaper than other websites or Home Depot and Lowes.

This is very well made and looks like it would work well but we installed the standard closet system without a tower,, We didn't know until we tried to install this pull out that it will not work on the slatted shelving. So don't buy it unless you have a tower or solid wall to attach it to.

I love this shelving system, and now that it's up, all the effort was totally worth it. The directions were straightforward and clear, we just ran into issues with our wall not being flat. We had to make some adjustments to the brackets in order to make it work. This was frustrating, but not at all the fault of the product. My husband, a complete novice, and I were able to install the closet ourselves. It takes a while and involved sawing and lots of measuring. But the end result is beautiful.

I ordered this closet system and it arrived a few days later. I am a 33 year old female with no real "handyman" experience. I opened the box expecting to be overwhelmed and it was quite the opposite. While there were a lot of hardware pieces (screws, anchors, etc.) they were all bagged seperately and very easy to sort. There weren't a whole lot of small wood pieces to put together. It does take some time to measure and mark your walls but once that is complete the job takes off and before you know it, it looks like a new closet. I would suggest downloading the instruction manual and printing it so that you can mark and measure your walls according to the design you choose. I have a small walk in closet and I put this system on one side to see if we liked it first. I WILL be ordering another for the other side. It looks great!!!

The closet system arrived quickly and in mostly good condition. Everything is stacked in a long box. It had apparently been stepped on at some point, so two short shelves were slightly damaged, but l checked them against the configuration before calling the number on the box for replacements. I ended up cutting the broken part off to get the layout I wanted, so it worked out fine for me. I modified a recommended layout in the booklet to put the shelves up and measuring was fairly simple. The wall brackets are very snug on the shelf, so be prepared to use some maneuvering to get the shelves into the brackets. Also recommend hanging the primary shelves and marking the front uprights off the actual shelves - the numbers in the booklet didn't quite succeed on my wall - maybe user error, but could have been avoided fairly simply. I haven't completely loaded the shelves with stuff, but I have no fear about the sturdiness of the system. Overall, I am thrilled with my purchase and the system is beautiful in the closet.

This system is not meant for anything less than perfectly straight walls. Alas, I do not have perfectly straight walls and so the installation was a bear! Suffice it to say that I bought two of these systems (one for each side of the closet) and I ended up paying a handyman more than the cumulative price of those two sets for the installation. It was brutal. It looks great, but- please- make sure your walls are completely straight or consider another product. Also, this product scratches incredibly easily. A felt tip marker is included, but, I wish they would have make it a bit more durable. Last, John Louis sticks their logo on several of the pieces with what must be industrial strength adhesive. I am unable to get it off- and the stickers (they are really thick, like they wanted them to resemble plaques) are not on straight. That is pretty bad considering this was not a cheap product. It sounds like I have a lot of negatives, but overall I am happy with the product. Even happier that it is finally installed!!

I bought 2 of these systems for our walk in closet. We put one against the left wall, one against the right and had enough pieces left over to make one long shelf on the back wall. The closet looks amazing compared to how it looked before with the awful white wire shelves. The wood gives the closet warmth and color. My husband and I put it all up in about a day and half with many breaks in between. As others have mentioned, the measuring and making sure the configurations are correct took the most time. Make sure you have an electric drill/screwdriver on hand as there are a lot of wood screws that need to be put up and doing it by hand would take a really long time. The only slight problem we had is that some of the wood pieces had little dents in it. The wood is soft and even banging something against it would cause some damage so definitely wouldn't recommend this for a child's closet where they will be putting things away on their own. The dents are barely noticeable and the system does come with a wood colored ink pen to fill in any bare spots.

I'm pretty handy, as well as physically strong, for a woman; I had big dreams about being able to install this while my husband was out of town on business. Well, that didn't happen... A lot of the dificulty we ended up encountering was caused by a slightly bowed wall in the closet. The system is NOT designed to accomodate things like that, and we ended up having to plane several of the shelf pieces off in order to get them to work. Also, if you are cursed with plaster walls, as we are, invest in steel stud savers or toggle bolts, as the plastic ones that come with just won't work. Once we got past the structural issues, the closet went together beautifully. It looks great, it holds a TON of stuff, and it is a significant addition to the value of our home. We plan to put them in our kids' rooms, too.

Ideal for guest rooms or additional bedrooms, queen beds measure 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. For a couple, a queen bed provides about 30 inches of space per person. Normally restrained decorators tend to let loose when decorating toddler bedrooms. After all, the color and pattern palette of kids' furniture and bedroom decor tends to be far more diverse than those for adult bedrooms. You can begin with a few large pieces of kids' furniture, such as a toddler bed, kid dresser and storage shelving. Add a theme or a palette and work from there or just add some simple textiles and wall art for a few decorative accents.
