Product Reviews for:
4.1 out of 5Make a lot of room for these bar stools because they are big. I bought three of these bad boys to put in my lounge, and each one has it's own bar table. During pre-planning I imagined that I would leave about a foot between the table and the barstool. After it arrived, I ended up leaving about 2. The foot rest is hard to reach (maybe because I'm 5'7", or maybe it shouldn't matter) They tilt when you try to get down, so you don't get that sturdy feeling like you would with a normal shaped stool. On a more positive note, they are simply gorgeous stools. I mean hands down gorgeous. The material is high quality. The chrome base compliments the leather seats very nicely. The product looks exactly like the picture, with the exception of them being a little bigger than I imagined. Overall, I give them 5 stars for appearance, and subtract one for functionality. A very enthusiastic 4 stars!!
I purchased 2 of these barstools without much comparison shopping and then went to see if I had made a good deal. After researching stools with the same features: hydrolaulic height adjustment, swivel, leather, back support, and comfort; I immediately came back to overstock and ordered 2 more. This is an incredible value offered at a steal. I was worried about ease of assembly until they arrived. They were wrapped very securely and actually took longer to unpack than to put together. I haven't had any problems with stability as has been reported in earlier reviews, but I saw where the base was correctively widened, and the stools I received have a base that is very safe and stable. The stools are extremely attractive and incredibly comfortable. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
It appears that all the money spent on building this stool went into the leather seat portion. The seat appear to be of a very nice black leather that is some what shiny/oiled with a smooth crackled/distressed look as opposed to pebbled texture. It looks very nice and is reminisent of barcalona style chairs. The button tufting is neat. Leather is very thick and definately real as there is a swatch attached to the bottom of the chair. All that is good but here's the bad: the chrome bases are extremely cheaply made. Anything that could be wrong just about is. Certain pieces of the stand are NOT metal but chrome colored plastic. Out of every set there is at least two fake chrome pieces that attach to the stand. The first piece comes already attached and the second isn't listed in the directions so you can't really figure out where it goes plus it is extremely cheap plastic so why put it on anyways? It doesn't seem to serve a function except to cheapen up otherwise nice stools. Basically the chrome job is really bad. Chrome plating is supposed to be very thick as to look good and last. Also it needs to be layered in this order, first steel, then nickel plating, then finally chrome plating, or be very thick so it is adehered nicely and doesn't get impressions or dings in it spoiling its good looks. The metal is some sort of cheap steel spray painted silver then coated with a thin layer of chrome. This will scratch off or pit very easily unlike durable or "hard chrome". I purchased four stools. Underneath three of the footrests is a very hardwearing black phenolic type resin attachment similar to construction used on desk chairs but on the fourth footrest it is a very soft "chrome look" plastic like the fake plastic chrome on the other stools. It doesn't match so I have mismatched set. Packing is a concern. The leather was immaculate and beyond my wildest hopes not fake or bonded leather or vinyl at all, very high quality but the meat pieces were all rusty and some of the fake chrome pieces were chipped and peeled letting you know the pieces were plastic. There is a dessicant to absorb moisture but it is small and did not work very well. Again the chrome is thin plated and some bases show hairline scratches and some pitting. One is deeply scratched and shows the grayish silver paint underneath. I will be returning the bad pieces and ask for replacements from overstock. All in all the chairs are worth it for the seats alone so I'll keep them but eventually I will either have to have them properly chrome plated or more likely just find better bases and remove the cheap seat off them. This is to be expected I suppose considering that barstools with full leather and proper bases cost *** each.
These barstools look great and compliment the black and stainless color scheme in my kitchen. My husband had no trouble assembling them. However, the seat adjustment levers could not be placed in the same position on all of the stools depending on how tight the screws were turned. This could not be determined until after the assembly was complete and you sat on them. Because of the shape of the stools, there is a tendancy to slide in the seat. I think this will go away after they are used and broken in. I really like the barstools and would recommend them to my friends and family,
I bought these bar stools after shopping around extensively, both online and in retail stores. I was looking for leather upholstered, back-support, height adjustable and swivel seat. So that put most stools way out of my price range. These stools were the only ones that had everything I wanted in my price range. They are aesthetically pleasing & match my bar perfectly. However, they are a little unstable when the seat height is adjusted to/near the maximum height. This is especially true if the person is short and can't easily touch the ground. The stool almost fell over when one of my friends (5' 4") tried to get off. Everyone has said the stool is comfortable. I didn't think so, but since I'll be behind the bar and never sit on the stools, that doesn't matter. I would recommend this bar stool. However, I'd also recommend getting a foot rail for your bar, which I am in the process of doing now.
the instructions could be a little more helpful. the hydraulics would not work until chair seat taken off and manually manipulated several time to loosen them up and a spacer placed on the plunger button to push in better. i saw a similar complaint on other reviews so perhaps this is the same problem on those occurences.

Can someone tell me how do I install the Hydraulic part of the chair? The stars might go up once I actually get this thing together. I have everything together excluding the hydraulic part
The look of these stools are by far the best I've seen. They are high quality when it comes to the seats, but the bases of these break very easily after only a few months of use. The stems fit inside the bottom base and the metal piece that they fit into is very thin and weak. They make me think that they are actually used for staging and appearance only. If you plan on using these stools on a regular biases, you have to insist that people do not lean back or rock in these as people tend to do. And, they are not the most comfortable seats in the world either. If I could, I would have returned these as they were not a good investment. I'm currently working on how I can fix these so that I can use them again. Maybe welding a thicker piece of metal on the bottom and having only small, lightweight people over.
These chairs look amazing - they are a little lighter weight than I was expecting and also not quite as comfy as I had hoped, but the style is terrific and they were easy to put together.
We just bought our first home and bought two of these stools for our black granite kitchen island. They look great and everyone that walks into our kitchen compliments them! The only negative is that they are a little less sturdy than they look, and with a husband who is 6'5" and the shortest (and smallest) in his family, we can appreciate sturdy furniture. But we are definitely keeping them because they are very comfortable and look so great! Thanks Overstock.com :)
We love these bar stools! We ordered these for a new condo in FL, received them within a week of ordering them, and put them together in minutes. They are comfortable, swivel beautifully, and look great. I highly recommend these!
The stools look great. I was worried that they may be too high for my counter-height bar but they fit perfectly. Everyone compliments them when they visit. I only gave 4 stars because they have already started to "groan" when spun around. However, I have only noticed this when heavier guests are sitting on them and it may fixed by a little WD-40.
Rec'd. the bar stools and am very pleased with quality. A real bargain! Careful attention was paid to packing and shipment was fast. More than pleased with my purchase.
These are Fabulous bar stools. Very sturdy, Goes up & down Fine. Wide enough for a bigger person to sit on them. I am so Happy with my Purchase! Would recommend these to anyone.
The leather barstools I purchased both work fine, but the base is not quite large enough to allow just anyone to jump up there. The footrest portion is also too far down for my wife to place her feet. All-in-all the stools work perfectly for our application and for the price I would give them an 8.
These stools are my first disappointment from Overstock. Our bar is tall so we use them at their full extension. That may be the problem; they seem underengineered for the height. They were fine at first, if rather uncomfortable (one tends to slide off and short people cant reach the foot brace.) But after less than six months they began to develop squeaks, squeals, and alarming wobbles that no amount of adjustment can correct. Basically, they are top heavy; the pedestal can't support the weight of the stool and the occupant. They topple. It's too late to return them but maybe this will prevent someone else from making the same mistake
Just purchased these a few weeks ago and absolutely love them. Constructed of very nice, high-grade leather and a pretty heavy duty chrome stand and base. I was shocked when I first took them out of the box; they look and feel like bar stools that should cost at least $300 each, no joke. Assembly is a breeze; 4 screws into the bottom of the seat and you're pretty much done. The diameter of the base has been increased, so it is very stable and there are no more tipping over issues, so you can disregard previous reviews griping about that (thanks for listening Overstock.com). Also, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the hydraulic adjustment on the chair, works like a charm, but again, I've had these chairs for about 3 weeks, so I can't vouch for its long-term operation, but I'm not worried about it in the slightest. Bottom line: these are high-quality, stable, and very stylish bar stools at an unbeatable price...get 1...or 5!
2 concerns, 1. stool tips over slightly when getting off quickly. 2. screws that attaches the cushion to the leg, a wee bit short (1") ,1 1/2" would be ideal. Shipping was fast by Overstock. Unwraping took longer than assembly.
The black leather chicago bar stools are great looking. However, I am so disappointed that the hydraulic mechanism does not work on either of the two bar stools I purchased.
I ordered three of the Chicago Leather Barstools to go around a built in bar in my kitchen. They arrived promptly and were well packaged. After some slight difficulty getting the first barstool assembled, the next two were easy! They are very comfortable, attractive, not at all wobbly. Basically exactly what I was looking for, and I shopped for some time before making my selection. I have no regrets about the purchase, and I'm happy to have them.
