A semi-trash pump with hoses as listed typically retails for more than twice this amount. My expectations were therefore not all that high and but I only need the pump infrequently. So although I did have some trouble based on quality of construction, it came as no surprise and fortunately was not an insurmountable problem. I had to clean out the pump as the impellers had been fouled. There are 4 - 13mm bolts holding the aluminum housing together. One of them had been overtorqued at the factory and came out with aluminum threads of the backplate. On re-assembly, it was not possible to seal the housing enough to maintain suction for even 5 feet of lift. After scrounging around, I found a metric nut to put on the fouled bolt and was back in business. Some corners were cut like plastic tubes on the discharge hose fittings and a plastic strainer. I would suggest that the latter be replaced by a metal one as it also suffers from tiny holes (roughly 1/8”). On the good side, the motor is one of the XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXX-XXXX” which seems to be pretty solid, the frame is adequate, and the impeller and associated bowl are cast iron. When air-leaks were resolved, it pumped quite well for several hours without hiccup. So in my mind, it was well worth the price.
Initially this pump would not run consistently, but would stop after running about 15 minutes, but would start again with no problem. This happened about the first four times we used it to pump water from a ditch and it was very frustrating having to walk back and forth to restart it. After reading several reviews, we looked into better fittings for the hoses and since then, the pump has run consistently better for the last three uses, even after running a whole tank of gas for longer periods of time (1 to 2 hours). This could be because no air is getting in the lines anymore - not sure why for certain that it's running better. The pump starts easily (always has) and is powerful enough for our uses. We are running 600' of layflat hose with about a 15' head height to water garden and pasture and it has plenty of power to do this even at 1/4 speed. I am happy with this purchase now that the pump is "behaving itself" to my expectations.
