In Vietnam, artisans take great pride in handcrafting these items. Some of them are made in a workshop which helps to provide hundreds of jobs in the community where it is located, where work is very difficult to find. However, many of the items are handcrafted in small villages or towns, which helps to provide for families without going to a large city. Most of the artisans live very simple lives and have been doing this type of work for many decades. The knowledge and many of their traditions have been passed down from their ancestors. It gives them much satisfaction knowing they are helping to preserve many dying arts.
