Cast Iron Umbrella Base
dfgjr  from Chesapeake Beach, MD,  Aug 6, 2009
Easy to assemble, looks great. The exact item for which I was searching. Heavily constructed. Great choice of colors. The price beats out all local store prices for "near" similar items; plastic or otherwise.

In Good Standing
Magique  from California,  Jul 30, 2009
I love my stand; it looks perfect with my new umbrella (which I also bought from Overstock at a good price). It matches my patio furniture and adds class to the total ambiance.

Product looked just like the picture, but it was way too light to hold up our umbrella by the pool.Soft winds blew it right over. I am sure it would work fine under a table. I guess if we needed a heavier base we should have gotten a solid one instead of the cutouts.

Do not even think of getting this item. It was broken on a second day of use.

My umbrella pole doesn't fit into the stand unless the plastic ring on the stand is removed. I will have to find some putty and make a rope to put along side of the pole where it goes into the stand, as water will get into the stand and there isn't any way for it to drain out. I have to say, I am disappointed. If I didn't catch the stand's diameter as well as the umbrella's then it's my fault. The stand is heavy, but it does have a smudge of rust where the stand pipe goes into the base. I just hope it doesn't rust onto my composite deck. I think I can keep the water out, but if the paint isn't any good, I might consider painting before the first time it rains. I think it's over priced for what I got, but it is like buying a "pig in a poke". I love Overstock and if you read my other reviews, I am usually a very satisfied customer. This and a wall mirror I sent back are about the only two items I have had second thoughts about. If your umbrella pole fits and keeps the water out, you should be fine. I can't say I have spent much time checking umbrella stands, so some of the problem is my own... especially if the diameters were given.

Exceeded Expectations
Anonymous  from Matunuck, RI,  May 29, 2009
We were delighted with the design and construction of this umbrella. The aesthetic rivals what we have seen in more expensive retail stores, for a far lower price. We haven't had it long enough to comment on rusting, but we are already pleased with the weight. We live in a windy beach area, and it has been fine!

***The base is heavy and seems to be durable. It is very dry here, so we are not worried about rust.***But putting the pole in is much more difficult than it should be. I also bought the umbrella from Overstock.com, but the pole does not fit in the base. With the plastic piece (in the base) the hole is too small. We removed the plastic piece and the hole is too large. So we modified the plastic piece. But even then there is only one bolt and the pole is wobbly even if we only put the bottom half in (without the umbrella). We can't imagine what it would be like with umbrella on a windy day.***We will probably figure this out, but this seems like a great deal of work simply to put up an umbrella and we may end up permanently fixing the bottom half of the pole in the base.***Overstock should just say -- this base fits models XYZ and not PQRS.

I was very disappointed when this product arrived. If I was purchasing this product in a store where I could see it I would have passed it up. I purchased a different base locally last year and it is by far better than this one, and it was cheaper. It is almost twice as heavy and much better quality. I wish they had two of them. When it arrived, ther were several areas where the paint was removed or damaged in the shiopping process. I had to touch up those areas and quetion how durable the base is really going to be in the wether. The quality of construction for the casting is poor, where several of the details are just one massive clump. And there are no rubber feet on it like my other base, to protect the deck. So I will have to try the local hardware store for a remedy. A disappointing purchase at best. I would have purchased locally hands-on if I could have found what I wanted.

Looks great, really heavy but after the first rain is already rusting! Would buy again but keep out of the weather, its too beautiful to rust so quickly.

Glad I purchased...
karlyhf  from Valentine, NE,  Jul 31, 2008
I purchased this, along with an outdoor umbrella, for an existing outdoor patio table. I use it under the table for added stabilty, as we are in the country with not much wind break. We had a terrible storm last week which took our 15 ft trampoline flying through the air - the patio table was blown across the entire length of deck, but the closed umbrella stayed with the table - no damage to either. I would say the stand definitely did it's job. It is also quite humid here and has been very hot, but I have noticed no discoloration to the stand. I am very glad I purchased it...

Umbrella stand must be anchored to ground for maximum stability. Looks good, not as heavy as I think an umbrella needs if it is in windy conditions..

Okay, my fault. I put a 10 foot umbrella in it and the wind whipped up a bit and everything fell over. The part welding the tightening bolt on broke and needs to be welded--a charge more than it is worth. But shouldn't it be able to take a couple hits?

white umbrella base
kobedg  from Miami,  Apr 13, 2008
The umbrella base purchased was white but after only one week had rust stains from natural weather elements. I used sand paper to get the rust off on the surface and used rustoleum white paint spray to give it a new look. I was very disappointed that the base had the rust stains after having the product only one week.
