Yes, four slats and you install them with screws(included) in predrilled holes in slats so the slats do not move if you slide the boxsprings. The boxsprings set on the slats.

Thank you coragoe for the oppertunity to help you today with your question about the Caspian King Bed frame. The manufacturer says that you absolutely have to have a box spring and the box spring sits on a metal frame connected to the wood. Picture the old fashioned metal bed frame bolted to the wood for the box spring to slip onto and down. I got the information from an online store and we hope this information helps. In reading all of the questions and answers below, I think the top of the Footboard is 36" off the ground, and the top of the Headboard is 55 1/2" above the ground. Can you please confirm.

I know the listing for this frame says boxspring required - however this is my first time purchasing a latex mattress. The listing for the latex mattress says it can be used with an existing frame or platform,etc.
