OVERSTOCK.COM- 4/26/12 The colors are muted, in raw sienna pigments, but striking in their impact. Andalusia is a region in southern Spain that gave birth to the flamenco dance. This scene is a fine depiction of what appears to be a private gathering with male and female subjects, and a lone flamenco dancer as the central figure and focal point of this rendering. Her garb is brighter in color, and stands out beyond the other subdued tones. You can feel the movements of this shapely and exotic woman; hear the strings of the guitar players and clatter of the maracas’ as she gyrates to the music in this dynamic dance sequence. And among the other subjects, some who appear to be distracted, others involved, is a lone figure, a bearded man seated in the rear right of the composition, whose expression appears to be one of adulation, but is resigned in the knowledge that his feelings toward this woman are not mutual. I hung the painting on a wall in my office at work that's painted light blue. I receive tons of compliments on the painting. If you're looking for a bright, lively painting this would work. If you want more muted colors, keep looking.
