It's true that the white shelf slats are precariously stapled onto the underlying white wood grid. Forewarned by other reviewers, I handled the shelves very gingerly while unpacking them. Even so, had to use Goop on just one slat. In position, i.e. in use, the chintzy stapling is not a problem. Note that the upper and lower shelves are not interchangeable. The hardwood top and base have 4 dowel holes pre-drilled. Only 2 dowels are supplied, as indicated in the Parts List. So what, do they profit an extra 9 cents from each unit as a result? Seems also chintzy. The most challenging assembly problem was that the 4 metal tabs that screw into the underside of the hardwood top were not formed at anywhere near a sufficient angle to allow just rotating them into the linear grooves in the left and right sides of the cabinet. Just rotating them would have left them about an inch below the grooves. Those tabs are all that hold the top onto the cabinet, with the two dowels only aligning the top to the base (unless you were to glue them). The tabs are very difficult to bend. The solution I applied was to screw the 4 metal tabs firmly onto the underside of the inverted top, and then use the claw of a hammer to bend them up sufficiently to match the level of the grooves. This was done gingerly, in about 4 partial bends each, setting the top on the base each time to check progress, and then takling it off to bend the tabs further. While the angles are now not ideal, the top is quite snug, and the only time a potential problem could ensue woulf be if sharply lifting the whole unit by the top edges. But because of my outstanding artistry in the bending, even this is unlikely. Further, the particular drawing for that assembly step was almost useless, with the relative sizes and locations of those two interlocking parts rendered completely inaccurately, except for the 90-degree angle involved. The second most challenging problem was tapping some of the metal pins into a few slightly undersized holes (Other holes were fine --just snug enough). Even hammering the pins through a block of wood, the lower right rear cabinet wood splintered apart. Clear Household Goop (not the yellow "Plumbers Goop"), two clamps, overnight dry--and I won't tell any of the females around here if you don't. Beyond that, I will say that all the predrilled holes were in excellent alignment. Note that the handle on the right side adds length to the advertised dimension. In the tight corner next to my stove, I had to just leave it off. Trying to think of something else to do with the beautifully-finished handle offers hours of contemplative fun, particularly if you keep it near the toilet. The answer so far: Nothing. The height of the unit is at least an inch and a half lower that the standard stovetop next to it. No big deal, but I did subsequently acquire a 30-inch wide, 1 and 1/2 inch-thick heavy hardwood top to set atop the unit, to make it more nearly contiguous with the level of the stovetop. *** or so, thus made the whole purchase significantly more $$$. But I like the look--more of an actual butcher block, and two inches deeper than the top of the original piece. Looks great, and doesn't detract from ease of opening the drawer. You actually cannot see the original top, without bending way down. I left out the upper shelf, and set a white plastic "tall kitchen bag" trash receptacle on the lower shelf. When in use, the receptacle may be pulled out and set against the unit's door, snugged to the stove. It barely sticks out past the front of the stove, if at all. (My unit is to the right of the stove.) There is still room on the shelf for a couple of large cutting boards set on end. This bar cart is an excellent size for the smaller dining area in our apartment. The cart itself is pretty good quality, although my boyfriend had a tough time putting it together! I do wish there were six holes for wine bottles, rather than four, but oh well. However, even though I hardly notice that the faux marble top isn't real (especially from far away) it might not please some folks. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. It's a good buy for the price and the style is chic and modern.

This table is just as pictured and as described. I am actually using as a microwave oven table and have room under it for a trash can. I am a small person but I managed to get it in my house and put together by myself...so anyone can!

I intend this to be used in a work room, not a kitchen, and I was very pleased with the size and style. It is veneer over pressed wood, but for the cost it is very nice. I would expect to pay more than double for solid wood construction. The back panel was damaged when it arrived, but Overstock was wonderful in helping with the resolution. I love the drop leaf, which gives me the extra work area when needed, but is out of the way when not. I would certainly recommend this item.

I was looking for a small footprint for a certain space in the kitchen. It was very easy to put together and the wood is very nice.

WOW! What a well made table! It is heavy and the wood used is a beautiful grain! My husband put it together in no time. I had been hoping I could eliminate the 2 shelves so that we could pull stools up to it for the grandchildren to enjoy! There were no notches cut into the legs...the shelves themselves were made to attach to the legs. We kept them off for a great and sturdy table! Love it!!!

the construction of the wood work is excellent. Very useful. Love all the storage for my veggies, and the extra counter space is wonderful!!

I wanted a solid wood piece not a composite. When composite wood gets wet or old and the supports for the shelves give way. The butcher block top was rough and unfinished and needed a good sanding too. Not at all worth the price tag. For the quality I would not expect to pay over $300.

Great for small spaces-we purchased it for a small cabin kitchen. Lots of pieces to assemble. One basket came broken and not usable.

This kitchen cart was the perfect size for my kitchen. I needed to add a bit more working space and this cart met my needs. Assembly required some skill with tools, as several holes had to be re-drilled because they did not line up. Assembly instructions were not very clear, and would be problematic for a novice. My husband, who thankfully is very handy, suggests gluing all wood to wood points of contact to increase the cart's strength. I wish there were locks on all four wheels, not just the front ones. Overall, I'm happy with the product.

We got our package within 3 days after placing the order online. Well made piece with real wood on drawers, doors and frame. It will cost double the price if you buy it from a store. Missing some screws but customer service took care of it. We got a discount and will buy the screws from local hardware store.

It was fairly simple to put together. Even though I put it together myself (5'4" female), if you know someone who can help you, by all means employ them--some of the pieces are heavy, which is why this is a good piece of furniture. It is solid, the wheels are rubber and the block is attractive. I will oil it and use cutting boards instead of chopping directly on the wood to preserve it because I want to eat on it too (I bought some 24" stools). Great product, I love it.

We are using this as a butcher block, table, desk, and extra space when entertaining. It's perfect for all uses! It is beautiful and a substantial piece of wood. The assembly is very easy (simply attach 4 legs). It is heavy and my husband had to bring it in the house. Still very very pleased.

READ the details of the item. We were excited about an island advertised as being made of hardwood but did not notice that the back and sides are made of pressed wood and veneer. We counted all of the screws and parts because of other reviews and although we had the correct number of pieces, they weren't all the correct size. That caused some splitting of the pressed board sides. The caster sleeves extend over the edges of the wood. The height is good and the island squared up nicely once we finished putting it together. Assembly takes a couple of hours; be prepared for that. Also, we recommend putting wood glue in all of the screw holes, especially wherever you are working with the pressed wood and the drawer. This item is priced too high to have pressed wood. I wish we had read all of the details more carefully! We would have spent the money on a different piece.

This kitchen cart was the perfect addition to our odd shaped kitchen. The wood is a beautiful color. We added a glass counter top cover so we don't destroy the beautiful "butcher block look" top. It was easy to assemble and took about 15 minutes since all parts were marked and the instructions were easy to understand. The wheels are a little large and only two of them are locking so it does move if you bump into it. That is one thing I would change-I thought all wheels had locks. It was a great value for the money and it is certainly nice to have the extra counter space.

Wood top is very heavy and nice. The coloring on the wood shelving is beautiful. Took a little while to put it together, but well made and well worth it!

My son and I took several days to assemble this cart. It was relatively easy, with good instructions. Unfortunately, two of the metal drawers were defective. I called Catskill, and they promptly sent out two replacement baskets. I did not even need to return the old ones. The cart is made of high quality wood, and looks even better with butcher block wax.

While it's a bit pricey, this is a quality product and well worth it. Assembly was a bit intensive, but apart from some struggles lining up the butcher's block with the base cabinets everything went together well. The door/drawer handles are pretty cheap, but standard size so we swapped them out to match the rest of our kitchen. Upkeep is minimal. We oil and lightly sand the block once every few months. That seems to keep it looking good and stain resistant. Would definitely recommend.

Very satisfied with this roll around cart. The wood is quite heavy and seems to be sturdy. Not very difficult to put it together. I did it by myself! (Grandma) The dark brown color matches my cherry cabinets well. I'm not crazy about the quality of the butcher block type top, although it is very heavy. It is not a high quality butcher block - but certainly is good for this price range. I'm thinking about replacing it with a piece of granite. From my comparisons, I found this cart to be a great value for the money.
A chopping board is one of the most basic pieces of equipment in the kitchen. Chopping boards, also known as cutting boards and butcher blocks, protect your countertops from scratches and your knives from excessive dulling. Cutting boards are also much more sanitary than chopping your ingredients on the countertop or a paper plate or napkin. Used properly, a chopping board can also be a tremendous help in preparing your meals.

They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, but in many homes, it's also the biggest source of energy waste. Kitchen lighting, refrigeration and cooking consume about 41.5 percent of the total home energy use; add space heating, cooling, and water heating to that total, and you'll see your kitchen is quite the energy hog. Creating an eco-friendly kitchen includes your choice of appliances, but it also goes beyond that; the floors, paint, pots and pans, and other kitchen items you use can make your kitchen eco-friendly as well.
