I bought this coffee maker after going through an expensive Saeco and Cuisinart in three years. They both ground the beans, but were hard to clean up and ultimately failed. Bunn coffee makers are nothing fancy, but they make great coffee. I know from many friends who own them (and from extensive research of reviews) that they are very reliable, as well. The BX-B Thermofresh is great so far. Fast, fresh and delicious coffee and instant hot water. The only reason I didn't give the machine five stars is that you must purchase special Bunn filters (they're taller) and that I had to request an alternative sprayer head from Bunn for the coffee to be as strong as I'm used to. This was done on-line (Bunn's corporate website) and the sprayer arrived, free of charge and postage, in a couple of days. Apparently the weak coffee problem has something to do with my water, not the coffee maker, so Bunn has this fix available for free. The Overstocks price was $30 cheaper than the lowest price I found for this machine. I hope I don't need to buy another one for many years, but based on this machine, I'd buy another Bunn when that day arrives.
Bunn" coffee makers are simple and when you need decent coffee fast you can't beat them. And yes, these have been popular in restaurants for years. This is a good looking unit and I knew having a carafe rather than a heating plate would preserve the quality of the coffee. This was purchased for an office and we probably make 3 pots per day. This particular unit has a major design flaw. About 3 months into using it we noticed it dripped heavily when pouring a cup. I contacted Bunn. Their comment: the "engineers" were working on the problem. Coffee has a great deal of oil and this was building up under the rubber seals resulting in the leaks. Extensive cleaning under the rubber seal would solve the problem, I was told. A tedious process. It did leak less after this cleaning but soon went back to it's old tricks. I pour my cup over the sink to avoid messy clean up. Coffee is, of course wasted. Love Bunn but this design needs work. Would not buy this model until they solve carafe problem.
This machine makes the best coffee possible...... many years behind the Bunn name and quality.
I did have a minor problem with the basket overflowing.......called the Bunn 800 number and they promptly sent me a different disperser at no charge. Actually they sent two (2) at no charge. It's easy to unscrew the other and screw the new one in. Only takes 5 seconds.
I sent one of these to my brother.......and he tells me EVERY day for the past month, how much he loves this coffee-maker and the excellent coffee.
This is definitely a winner. And Bunn is right there for your needs.
Overstock.com is my hero. After my first order.......I've been at it non-stop. Easy, fast, good pricing and excellent.......above and beyond....staff.
Tell your friends (PS I don't work for Overstock.....even though I sound like it)
Totally disappointed wthi this unit. Coffee it produces isn't particularly hot, and the thermos does a lousy job of keeping it at any decent temp. Don't like the continuous heating aspect of the water storage unit. No sneaking a cup before it's completely finished. If packing it up and shipping it back were not such a headache I'd be doing just that. As it is, I'm on the search for a new coffee maker (going back to Krups!!) and will put this one away or give it away if anyone would actually want it.
I have had this for years and swear by it. Today is the first day we are cleaning it. I have shared it with my daughter but she returned it.
Young people do not seem to know how to keep it hot without a heating plate. Because it is THERMO you put the hottest water you can in the pot after you rinse it out from the coffee and put the lid back on while you get the machine ready. Ground the coffee, put the water in with something other than the coffee pot. If you put COLD water in the THERMO pot to fill the tank you are not going to have HOT coffee very long. My coffee is HOT for over 6 hours 90% of the time. I make about 2-3 pots a day. Hope this helps a few people..
OK, so I committed a lot of due diligence in buying this coffee maker. I'm responsible for brewing coffee for myself and better half each and every morning, so I wanted a "nice" coffee maker with none of the cheesy clock/timer buttons that break, heating element that rusts out and burns the coffee, etc...
WITHOUT A DOUBT, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE BUNN COFFEEMAKER BTX CARAFE MODEL ------ IF YOU KEEP A COUPLE THINGS IN MIND. I have gleaned this list based on various feedback comments, online research and, of course, my personal experience.
1. YOU MUST USE "BUNN" FILTERS ONLY!!! Theses are specifically made for use with Bunn coffee makers due to the nozzle pressure to have the coffee brew faster. These are available at Walmart for less than $2.00 for a pack of 100. So, if you're reading negative feedback on grinds in the coffee, that's why -- they are not using "BUNN" made coffee filters. Some people see this a negative thing, but Bunn has engineered what I believe, a coffee brewing system second to none. Everything must work together, like cogs in a machine. Therefore, I have no problem using these filters - inexpensive and, like I said easy to get -- Walmart, of all places.
2. YOU MUST KEEP THE COFFE POT/CARAFE CLEAN!!! At least on the inside of the pot. YOU MAY HAVE READ "THE POT LEAKS ALL OVER THE COUNTER, ETC". My personal experience -- it will leak, IF IT IS NOT CLEAN. In fact, that's how I know it's time to clean it! The top is a screw on top in the carafe, which seals nicely and securely, preventing leakage.
IF I NOTICE THE CARAFE LEAKING WHEN POURING--
A. I re-screw the lid on to ensure proper fit
B. I visually inspect the inside of the Carafe. If it is brownish, I CLEAN WITH WATER AND CAPFUL OF BLEACH. LET STAND AND SWOOSH THE WATER A LITTLE BIT AND VOILA -- the inside is sparkling clean again.
The 2 above solutions have solved the leaky problem 100% of the time. One of the things I love about this coffee maker is the fact that it does not leak.
3. NO TIMERS!!! The BTX will brew a full potful coffee in 3 minutes or less. So, again, keep a few things in mind.
A. No buttons, clocks, digital electronics gizmos means less will break. I welcome the less is more approach.
B. I prepare the coffee the night before I wake up. I empty the grinds, wash the filter holder out, replace with a clean GENUINE BUNN FILTER, put in 4-5 scoops of coffee, rinse the CARAFE thoroughly (unless a deeper cleaning is required, as per above). It is, basically ready to go for the next morning. OK, so no timers means that the next morning I simply add water to the coffee maker using a large cup that I have pre-measured to fill the water reservoir completely. That's it! 3 minutes later a full pot of coffee is good-to-go.
C. Repeat B daily.
4. THE COFFEE IS ***HOT***. PERIOD. there is no other way to put it. To brew a full pot of coffee in 3 minutes requires a reservoir full of preheated water, which this unit has behind the carafe. THOUGH I'VE BEEN USNG THE BTX A YEAR, I STILL GET AN OCCASIONAL "BURN" AND MY WIFE HAS AS WELL. Folks, there is no other way to put it. This is a trade off for a turbo fast brewing machine. I personally do not like hot coffee, some people do prefer hot coffee. In fact, just this morning, Wednesday July 31st 2013, I have added some ice to my coffee (which I brewed 2.5 hours ago and is just now tepid). So, use caution and attention when brewing, pouring and drinking the freshly brewed coffee. YES THE INSULATED CARAFE KEEPS THE COFFEE "HOT" (and I am not taking about "warm"), for HOURS!! crazy as it seems when I come from work, some 10-12 hours after brewing, I prepare the coffee maker for the next day (as per above) and I can see steam and feel the warmth from poured coffee!! CRAZY!! But, again, this a coffee brewing MACHINE.
In closing, I DO NOT WORK FOR BUNN!! I am just a pleased, actually, impressed customer with the BTX. It's nice to see quality, detail and style in a well-engineered product these days. I use the word "engineered" purposely, because this is a machine and should be used as such -- all parts must work together -- including, yes, using, ONLY BUNN FILTERS! And a CLEAN CARAFE!
I am so pleased overall with this unit I felt compelled to write this review 1 year after purchasing it.
Hope this helps all of those due-diligence, fact-checking, customer feedback-reviewing, multiple consumer site monitoring, bargain hunters out there who want ALL OF THE DETAILS (I even read the owners manuals PRIOR to purchasing a product) folks out there.
Keep the above points in mind and you will not be disappointed with this unit THE ONE AND ONLY TURBO COFFEE BREWING MACHINE BTX-B.
We have had the pot a couple of weeks now. It will soon spoil you to have coffee ready in on a couple of minutes. We went on vacation and a regular coffee pot drove us crazy and we missed the insulated pot. We take the pot to our deck for morning coffee and it stays nice and hot until its gone.
I put coffee in the basket and water in the pot and we pour it in first thing in the AM. We thought we would miss having a timer start the pot, but since it's so fast, its not an issue.

Cof fee brews quickly. Make sure to follow instructions as this is a completely new way to brew coffee. The thermal carafe keeps coffee warm without burning it. I use leftover coffee for iced coffee in the evening. 8 hours at work and my coffee was still warm ... perfect for iced coffee. This is (so far) a very impressive system.

Please tell us about the quality of the product. I wassurprised at how my coffee was so much mellower. I also love the speed with which coffee brews!

I use this coffee maker when I have meetings in my home and it makes great coffee! It's easy and quick to brew a second pot when needed. The thermal pot keeps the coffee hot for a good long period of time so it can go to the table or serving bar. However, it takes up a large amount of space on my counter top and you must keep water in the reservoir at all times as the unit maintains a constant 'ready to brew' temp. This means it draws electricity day and night, so it's not the most environmentally sound coffee maker unless you are serving coffee throughout the day. I put it away but for the occasions where I have a group to serve.
