This large gemstone globe has been painstakingly assembled by hand using 37 different semi-precious stones from all over the world!
Our globe is 9 inches in diameter, and has been mounted on a beautiful three-legged, polished brass stand. At the bottom of the stand, there is a very precise glass-topped integral brass compass.
Each country is inlaid from a different, individually cut stone that has been polished and set into this exquisite piece of art. The elements of the globe are created out of lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl, amethyst, African jade, tiger's eye, jasper, turquoise, purple quartz, onyx, unakite, abalone and many other beautifully hued stones. The latitude and longitude lines are very thin ribbons of brass, embedded through the globe.
This is the ultimate gift for any world traveler, map or globe collector, nautical, maritime, boat or sailing aficionado or geography buff!

As my son turned 26 and was leaving on his first visit to Europe, I sent this beautiful globe to him. I told him that as he traveled through life, remember that his mother would give him the "World" if she could. This globe would be helpful to him in remembering this. As a boy , he always had a globe and maps in his room...this one is beautiful and he was thrilled!

These are very beautiful globes and I was thrilled to get one for Christmas. I ordered the standing globes. The first black one came in with a broken stand and smudging under the sealing coat. Beautiful stone work though. The 2nd one I ordered, the blue lapis one, also had a broken stand and another area of smudging under the sealed clear coating. I am a regular customer at Overstock and this is my first problem, but it has been a doozy. I still would have wanted this globe if either were in good condition. Now I hope my billing refunds will be acurate to reflect two different but similar orders. I've had trouble responding to correspondence e-mails with Overstock with their system of replying that requires writing between two drawn lines that don't show up when responding and therefore my replys do not go through.

I just bought this globe and it is beautiful. My son just saw it and was quite taken with it so I bought him one. In addition I purchased the bookends -- haven't received them yet but I am sure they will be exquisite.

My wife bought this globe for me as a Christmas gift, and it's a very beautiful, well-made and unique piece. However, it's let down by some glaring geographical inaccuracies. Las Vegas and San Francisco have switched places, as have the capitals of Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and Paraguay is labelled as Panama. There are also other spelling errors.
