We purchased these chairs for our kitchen, they look nice once they are together but they quickly started to fall apart. The "wood" scratches so easily, I'm not even sure what from but it looks like someone took a knife to them and after a few months the paint started chipping off. After having them in our kitchen for a few months they look like we've had them for years. Definitely don't recommend unless you don't plan on sitting on them.
so first order had two identical legs, and no instructions so I spent some time believing that I was doing something wrong. I called and they sent out a new chair. I was skeptical that the right items would be sent again so I held on to the first chair. when I got second package then I had the same problem, this time I knew it was not me.. I took one leg from the first package and one leg from the second package then had to put the chair together in a odd way cause of course the place where the legs attached to the seat did not line up well. so I tried the other seat it did not line up at all. I settled for a roughly lined up chair, the legs seem to give a little when someone sits on it or shifts their weight. if you are over 160 I would not buy this chair for fear it may break. I ONLY keep this chair because I work in theatre and this was the chair the designer and director wanted and liked the look of if that were not the case both of these chairs would go back to their maker.
We have a small house, but our kitchen is large enough for a full size table and chairs which is where we do all of our dining. We don't have a formal dining room. Before we bought these chairs I had four French Country ladder back rattan seat chairs, which were high and heavy, and took up lots of room especially when we had to bring in other chairs to accommodate guests. Once I put these together, which by the way, is really easy - and set them up around the table (which we also plan to replace with an oval table - we have a rectangular one now) I could not believe the difference in the whole tone of my kitchen. First off, their smaller size makes the kitchen feel larger even with six chairs, where as before I only had four chairs. I love the black color because it really cements itself within the context of the room. I once read a designer say that if you want to bring attention and immediate 'style' to a room add something black. Well, I didn't need any persuasion there because black is my favorite color when it comes to clothing, so I thought why not add black to my kitchen? With stainless steel appliances, and retro blue/green walls, these black chairs with their chrome legs fit in and look great! I changed out my cabinet knobs to vintage chrome knobs. Slowly everything is tying together. Next we'll get our oval table and the mid century modern look will be complete. Love them! Also I want to add that you can add seat cushions if you want extra cush since these are wood and even though they are comfortable, the cushions add a little extra comfort. I've got dark brown faux leather ones that look great ..(which I also bought on OS years ago!) Oh and the price of these chairs is really unbeatable! I saw the same exact chair online for $597.. no lie.. I think those must be the original 'Jacobsen' ..
Very happy with these chairs! They were easy to assemble as long as you make sure you have the arrows on the legs both pointing to the front of the chair. ;)
