I understand that making a bed of this type for this price has certain restrictions buuuuuuuuut... The very first time we tried to move it began disintegrating at multiple connections. So it's stuck where it's stuck. I have no idea what it's fate will be when we move.
It is attractive enough.
The materials are a bit cheap to the eye and touch. You must be very diligent when building so as not to strip or crack the wood. I added liquid nails to anything I didn't ever want to take apart again like the drawers. The instructions or not bad until you get to the final assembly of the bed frame. It seems like they ran out of ideas or painted themselves into a corner and just added a step that says "finish". The drawers don't really fit that well and will require some adjusting. It is very stable when assembled.
Bed took ~3.5hours to build by myself.
I read the reviews before and was scared to get this bed in. People have said it is impossible to assemble.. its not. If you follow the instructions its simple. You really need two people though. My boyfriend and I assembled this bed in the time it said we would ( i think it was 105 minutes). The drawers took a little longer though. However it was not hard or impossible. Don't let the bad reviews steer you away from buying this bed. It is wonderful once you get it together, it works really well with a memory foam mattress. It took a while to get here thats the only bad thing. My mattress got here a few days after i ordered and this took like 2 weeks. Well worth it!!!
The product purchased was functional, in terms of storage but additional bolts and screws need to be put in the bags because a few werwe missing from mine so i had to substitute with store baught ones, and I do not feel I should have to. The color is good and over all it is a nice comfortable solid frame once assembled.
I'm used to assembling furniture but this one was a challenge. All the parts arrived but a couple of the special nuts that hold the bed together were damaged. Note that if you attempt to force any of these specialized nuts, they will strip and become unusable. The nuts have to be put in just so and not allowed to turn or shift at all or they will bind. So be careful. They are so specialized, you can't go to the hardware store to get replacements. I requested replacement parts from the company and got a prompt response that my request had been sent to fulfillment. That was 4 weeks ago. Looks like we may have to just put screws in to replace the bolt and nut system in order to stabilize the bed, but it will not look as good. Some of the drawers don't fit cleanly into the bed but perhaps that is a bit of "user error".
This bed was a bit of a project to put together. It took two men, 4 hours to assemble. Some of the time was spent getting replacement screws that had been stripped from the factory. They don't give you even ONE extra screw -- so be aware that you might need to find some that fit. But it is well worth the time to put together and the drawers slide in and out with ease. I would highly recommend it.
Searching for a new bed is always hard when you know you have to put it together. This arrived on time as stated in the checkout est. time of arrival and I was pleased with that. There were 3 boxes for this style of the bed. We got the black finish. The only downside was that all the boards had to be wiped down as they had a horrible layer of dust from the factory still on them. The instructions were easy to read and follow. The hardware was neatly packaged in their own bags or easy to separate with one bag that had 3 different hardware parts. It took me and my husband to put the bed together only because we wanted to speed the process up. However if you wanted to do it alone, you might get aggravated on some steps that would make an extra pair of hands helpful. Never had a problem with any of the holes lining up. All the wood was nicely shaped and no cracks or chips in any of the pieces. This frame is heavy and hard to move. The drawers are reliable and are not cheaply made so long as you are not shoving with a lot of weight as you put cloths in or store items in them. The worst part of putting the bed together was the wooden slats to hold your mattress. They are the only thing that I did not like as they were pine that splinters coming off the side and even with the two of us on this bed made us both get frustrated trying to line them up to secure them down. Other then that the bed was easy and excellent choice. We bought an Au Natural Cotton-filled 8-inch King-size Futon Mattress to go with this and topped it with a 2.5 in memory foam topper and sleep better then ever. The edge of the bed are not sharp in case you clumsy and run into things. The drawers are flush (if you install them correctly.) There were no reviews at the time of my purchase so I do hope this is of help. I would buy this bed 10 times over as the overall quality is much better then some Ashley beds.
It's an ok bed, good value (price to quality ratio), assembling is easy if you follow the instructions, but takes some time. probably wont survive many moves as disassembly and assembly is a pain...I would recommend it for the price conscious consumer who needs a king bed now, but might "buy up" in 3-5 years
should we use a box spring with this type of bed? or should we go with the ply wood like it is suggested below?jakenkay on Apr 15, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This QuestionThere are no answers to this question yet, be the first to answer it.
What is the weight limit for the king size bed? I saw one similar product that says 500 lb limit. With a traditional king mattress and two people, one that's large and tall, there's not much margin there.pjltx on Mar 27, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hi pjltx, than you for your inquiry. Unfortunately we do not weight test our items; typically this type of bed holds up to 500 pounds. We recommend exercising caution with such little leeway. We hope this helps. Thanks for shopping with us. overstockcustomercare1 on Apr 11, 2014
What does the 18.75in height refer to? Based on the picture and the stated interior height of the drawers, that doesn't appear to be the height of the bed itself; is this the height including a specific mattress thickness?noiguanaforz on Mar 25, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello noiguanaforz, thank you for your inquiry! The 18.75 inches high is referring to the height of the bed base. This item does not come with a mattress. I hope this helps. Happy shopping!overstockcustomercare1 on Apr 6, 2014
Thank you for contacting us brownssteelers. This storage beds have slats and memory foam mattresses are recommended to be on a flat surface.
Customers who have purchased the storage bed have put a piece of plywood on the slats.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.

What kind of composite wood is it? is it comparable to oak in its hardness/sturdy???archaneangel on Feb 22, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
The composite wood is MDF which is Medium-density fibreboard, an engineered wood product formed by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure. MDF is denser than plywood. It is made up of separated fibres, but can be used as a building material similar in application to plywood. It is stronger and much more dense than normal particle board.
Also MDF is not as hard, durable or sturdy as real Oak wood, But no composite wood is, Compared to real wood.overstockcustomercare1 on Feb 24, 2012
