No beater bar. It's fine for high-pile and shag carpets. That's what I have. It's light enough to use on stairs which is what I bought it for. I can't us uprights anymore after spinal surgery and I can't lift any more than this vacuum which is about 8lbs. I use it all the time. It isn't for deep down cleaning, but it gets up fuzz and crumbs, and thread and things like that.
