3.8 out of 5Very well thought out piece, very functional, prettier than the picture (Wood is much warmer looking). If you don't like to assemble things don't buy this piece, it comes in many tiny pieces. If you do like to assemble things you'll find this a rare treat (It fits together exceptionally well and they even tapped the screw holes). Not much waste here either, no gigantic pieces of styrefoam to throw away (a few small manageable pieces). This is made of fiberboard thus the medium value rating, but it's the best possible outcome for fiberboard I think.
I ordered this product believing that it would meet the expectations of all the past products that I have purchased from Overstock. com but it greatly falls short of the mark. The directions were poor and the quality substandard. The filing racks do not fit legal or letter...the slots were measured incorrectly by the manufacturer. My husband who is great at assemblying items was very frustrated with specific item.
I love it, and it's great for what it is. Obviously it wouldn't be of as high quality as one that came pre-assembled, but for something that you put together yourself I think it's wonderful. My only complaint is that a couple of the bars that insert into the magazine rack are too short and can fall out. However, this may be a fluke and isn't that annoying, anyway. I'm very happy with it, and glad that I bought it. (For those of you who prefer darker wood, there is a cherry version available; it didn't come up with my "filing cabinet" search, so I didn't know about it until just now when I searched for "bill payer desk.")
I purchased this desk for my daughter to use in her condo. It is just what she needed for a desk to use for her computer and for her bill-paying station. I did have some trouble with the construction and needed help with the assembly. It is a very attractive piece of furniture.
This is a nice looking desk. the bars that hold the files up are a hair to short & fall down,so they are useless. The dwawers stick so are hard to open. However it is nice looking & the top has useful slots & the swing out table holds my printer well.
A LOT of pieces to assemble, but relatively easy if you can follow directions. I'm not sure the price was great for the quality, but assembled, the desk looks quite nice.
Really good item for the money. Not solid wood, but it's very sturdy and holds a lot of different things.

I was VERY disappointed in this desk. I have two handles I cannot put on because the screws are not long enough...the wood cracked on the magazine rack for the side and I had to have someone repair it for me for use. File tabs cannot be put on because they hit the top. also had to move screws down on the file guide so the drawer would fit in
This desk provided an ideal way to organize mail and bills while taking up minimum floor space. It was fairly easy to assemble and the completed unit is sturdy and functional. The glides for the hanging hanging folders in the two file drawers are set high in the drawer so folder tabs do extend above the top of the drawers but there is ample space for the folders to hang properly without tabs applied. The top drawer is convenient to hold needed items but there is no drawer stop so it can be pulled out of the cabinet by mistake. The metal glides for the two file drawers work well. The fold up top is sturdy and well constructed and provides ample and convenient space to work on paperwork then fold away when not needed.
I absolutely love this desk. I had been looking for a roll-top or secretary style desk for some time, but they were all so expensive. I didn't even know that a 'bill payer desk' existed until I found it on Overstock.com. I love it. It isn't too big as to take up a lot of room, but is big enough for me to spread out while I am writing my bills. Thank you so much Overstock. You always seem to have just what I am looking for.
This really is an ideal concept for a small space and could be useful. However; assembly was time consuming . We also would recommend that there be two of you to help try to line things up correctly. Unfortunately our piece was not square; anyway, leaving gaps on either side. Also the top drawer was not the same color as the bottom two are. And the leg which holds the desk top was poorly finished. The file drawer does not leave enough room at the top for placing a file "tag/label" on top. The instructions don't warn you to glue the dowels. It is only mentioned on the parts list sheet. Over all, we do not believe it to be worth the price.
We live in a trailer and purchased the bill payer desk to keep my husband's laptop work area tidy. The desk is the ideal size for the living area in our trailer and hides the many cords connected to the laptop. My husband assembled the desk and said it was easy to assemble and didn't take very long. My husband had to lengthen the grooves on the inside of the desk drawers in order to put hanging file folders in the drawers. Initially, the file tops protruded above the drawer tops and kept the drawers from closing. We've had the desk less than a month and the outside finish is beginning to peel off in areas on the table edge and the drawer edges . However, we are satisfied with the desk size, and it works well for a PC work area for my husband.
this is a really neat desk..it fits so neat behind my computer...lots of storage and now i dont feel like such a slob, everything is in its place!friends and family have seen it and wants one..so got my xmas list ready to go..thanks overstock.com
The desk was fairly easy to assemble but all the fancy connectors didn't hold it together properly. As someone mentioned, the drawers don't fit well and don't slide out easily and end up crooked. A freind suggested I throw it out. That bad.
The filing cabinet/desk is perfect for my daughter at college. It matches her bedroom furniture perfectly. Only complaint is that the filing rails are not spaced well causing the file folders to fall off and that you can't use folder tabs. Also, one end of the letter holder was drilled wrong and then wood patched.
Unfortunately, I must say that this poduct is not worth the money they charge for it. The drawers either stuck or fall out, the material is so so. No easy assembly either. Had to have it assembled professionally so it's even more expensive. It would have been ok for half the price Thanks, Miluse
This desk was easier to assemble than I thought it would be, and looked great in the end. The only minor complaint I have is that I ended up having to drill a few holes because the preset ones were off a little bit. Otherwise, it was a great purchase and I would recommend it to anyone!
I really like the looks and the ease of use of the bill payer desk. The only problem was the drawers weren't deep enough to put tabs on my folders.
I have my own bills, and also my parents responsibilities and my dining room table was lost in the debris. This organizer, although small, has removed all that clutter and made it VERY easy to stay caught up on things. I love it, and it is simple to put together. I do, however, wish the poles on the side were a bit longer to fit more easily into the corresponding holes. Otherwise, it is a heaven sent.
Great looking Desk/File cabinet. A little tough to assemble because I am handicaped, (I got my nephew to finish it) but great value and appearance.
