These stools are stable and the saddle seat is comfortable. The style is is a nice blend of rustic and contemporary. The finish is a golden oak color and blends equally well with my oak kitchen table and pine chairs. One detail you might want to consider is that the legs are not made of one solid piece of wood: they are finger-joined from shorter pieces. This does not detract from the strength at all, in fact it makes the leg very strong. I put both of the stools together in ten minutes.
I was initially hesitant to buy these because of other reviews that stated concern over the black marks on the stools. I find they are hardly noticeable and appears to just be part of the wood. They look great and are the right height for a counter or breadfast nook. My only complaint is that they wobble a bit and I can't seem to 'right' it.
I had a terrible time assembling these. Two of the "pre-drilled" holes were not drilled. I should have just returned them, but one of them had already been assembled and that would have meant taking it apart and repackaging them to return them. Now that they are together, they are fine. In the description and picture it appears that these are natural wood, but in reality they have a stain on them and are a bit darker than they appear.
