Gorgeous looking bed at a great value. At first I was a bit concerned about the color, but it is a wheat color--not as khaki/beige as it appears in the photograph. The only downside is the assembly. The other reviewer is correct in that it does take some time (in my case, almost 1 1/2 hours). I did complain to Overstock about the assembly instructions. They are not very clear and initially, I thought I received the incorrect hardware. After several emails and calls to Customer Service, the matter was resolved. I had the correct hardware, but incomplete printed instructions. So after some sweat in putting the bed together, I am thrilled. Friends have commented on how beautiful it is and the quality is super. You will pay more at West Elm, Crate and Barrel and the like for particle board--the Velma is definitely worth the purchase.

The color is not so much 'wheat' as a light beige. It's a great piece and the nail accents are fantastic! I originally bought a Macy's bed and after getting screwed by Macy's, I picked this bed out. I love it! It's just a nice, very study and cheaper than the Macy's bed. Plus the delivery men dropped off everything in my room. Very well made and it goes with everything. Love this bed.

Shipper misplaced on of the pieces of this bed and therefore delivery was over a 2 weeks late. Otherwise, a fantastic bed. A bit darker than the photo leads you to believe (more like a wheat/tan), but still beautiful.

The bed was delivered in about a week since it required special shipping. It was pretty easy to put together but requires two people since it has so many large pieces. Once assembled, the bed is absolutely beautiful, more of an wheat color than the off white I had pictured but still a nice neutral color. The bed is very sturdy BUT I am concerned about how long the fabric will last. It is a very thin linen like material, not standard upholstery fabric so I'm not sure it will wear well. There are no fabric care instructions so I'm not even sure how to clean it. Overall, I am pleased but I do have some reservations as to how it will stand up to everyday use.

My wife and I were looking for a platform bed with a tufted headboard. We were using a bed from Crate & Barrel as a baseline by which to compare other beds. We discovered this bed, which was roughly half the cost of the Crate & Barrel. To say it was an exact match would be a bit of a stretch. Crate & Barrel's bed was more fashionably styled in a retro mid-century look. The feet were tapered on the C&B, whereas this bed has block feet. The lines of the C&B bed better evoked a mid-century aesthetic. C&B also had a wide selection of colors and fabrics. That said, we settled on this bed because the differences were too small to really notice, the color was a match for our existing decor, and the reported build quality seemed decent. The bed has turned out indeed to be very well constructed, and fairly easy to assemble even without instructions. Taking not of other reviews' warnings, we handled the slats with care while installing. We do have a foam mattress. If you do as well, a tuckabed or bunky board is definitely recommended so as not to deform the foam, but otherwise no box spring is necessary. We're delighted with the comfort, look, and quality construction of this bed. I would definitely recommend it unless the minor superficial differences are worth paying double to you. As a final note to those who are curious about the color accuracy in the photos, I would describe this bed as either cream or wheat. A warm off-white with a very slight yellow hue.

The basics: - I love this bed - It makes me feel like I have upgraded my room (childhood bed prior to) - it is very large - it doesn't creek as long as it is tightened properly and it doesn't shift very much If you are concerned about the color, the weight limit, sizing, and what mattress to pair it with then reading my lengthy review is worth it. I tried to include the factors that I was concerned as well as the deciding factors. I am also doing a review on the mattress in case it is difficult for someone to pair the bed with a mattress set just by the measurements. (which is a little hard to visualize for vanity sake) the title of the review will match this one I owned my previous bed for about 18 years and decided it was time for a change. I was skeptical of the bed because it had no reviews however it kept selling out so I jumped on it and I'm glad I did. The color is a little darker than what is in the picture, which I expected, the bed is more of a wheat color than beige that is shown in the picture. Upon delivery , which was quite fast, I did not realize that the bed was missing the parts to attach the headboard to the bed frame. I only had the instructions for the frame so I thought I had all the parts until we started putting it together. It took maybe two weeks to get that completely cleared up. Customer service was excellent, no questions ask they contacted the manufacturer and shipped me the parts. My room is quite large so I underestimated the size of the bed, full to queen really is a big difference. the headboard is very comfy to lean back on which was my deciding factor as well as it accommodating a box spring. I paired this bed with a serta queen euro gel top mattress. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Serta-Perfect-Sleeper-Bristol-Way-Supreme-Gel-Euro-Top-Queen-size-Mattress-Set/9085922/product.html It has three slats that are supported by metal legs. I put 3 extra boards (1" x 6") to help support the mattress and box spring and my weight. I am probably 290 lbs and 5' 8". The slats provided were fused boards that were a little over an inch wide so that is why I added the extra boards. I have not put any stains into it yet so I am not sure about cleanup, basically I keep a blanket on the headboard at night to keep my hair products off of it as well as the dust as an added plus.

I absolutely love this bed. I love the color, although it is slightly darker than what is shown in the picture. But, because I read through the reviews I expected the color to be darker. I actually like the darker color, which is more of wheat - gray in tone. My husband put the bed together, with no problem, although the directions are terrible. The bed is of solid construction, it is a perfect alternative to the Crate and Barrel bed. I would highly recommend this product.

I bought this bed because we have a set of white washed Thomasville dresser drawers that moved with us from NY. When I looked at the local furniture stores, only Ashley furniture had one that was upholstered and light enough in color to coordinate. I decided to go to Overstock to see what Black Friday deals were being offered. The excellent ratings for this bed caught my eye. When I noticed all the references to the Tate bed, I looked it up and found out that it was from one of my favorite household stores that don't have a location in Northwest Arkansas. So the style is consistent, but pleasantly cheaper than what I would expect at the brick and mortars I usually patronize. The package arrived today in 2 separate boxes via UPS, despite the ice storm we're having, and was assembled within about 30 mins. I had my 3 kids pitch in with assembling the mattress support that consist of 2 separate wood slats joined by a square plastic joiner which then connects to a support "spine" down the middle (lengthwise) of the frame. The ends are capped with plastic end pieces that also connect to the bed frame. Kinda looks like a rib cage from the front/top view. The quality is much better than IKEA, but equally easy to assemble. I saw several reviews state that they didn't have instructions, but I think it's pretty intuitive, given the few pieces provided - a box frame with screw on legs at each corner, support spine and wood slats with 3 center support legs down the length of it. The only tip I can suggest is to put the support legs down the middle as you install the wood slats from headboard to footboard. The material enrobes all 4 sections of the frame, and feels like rough linen, colored light wheat. We aren't using a box spring, and also agree with another poster that the standard queen mattress is a bit smaller than the opening. Once the sheets and comforter are in place, you'll adequately cover the gap. Great looking bed!
