This was my first big purchase from an overstock as in oversize delivery and between the anxiety of spending so much site unseen and then worrying about how it will be delivered this was a wonderful experience. I would order a large item again from overstock and with this one you will not be disappointed, it is solid, beautiful and very well crafted.Read More
this curio looks good from across the room up close the quality is that of a discount import from india it should be priced at 4 to 5 hundred dollars maxRead More
The oversize shipping required a lot of extra time on the phone with another carriers - but Overstock staff were always helpful and very understanding!Read More
I was looking for a large glass armoire that can hold a lot of glassware and platters and was not able to find something large and antique looking enough for my space and decor. looking at the description and picture of this one on Overstock.com, it seemed to be the perfect item and the price was right at my budget. I was however concerned about the quality and about the transport damaging this piece. The armoire arrived much faster than I thought (10 days) and it was so well wrapped and packaged that there was absolutely no damage and no defect. The quality is much superior than what I anticipated and it looks very expensive. What a nice buy! One only warning is that it is very heavy and they won't deliver the piece inside your house. They leave it at the front so make sure you have enough manpower to lift and move it. But shipping was free so for us it was well worth doing this job ourselves with the help of a friend.Read More
I did read the reviews on the "weight" of this piece. I may be the only one who had to call a MOVING COMPANY to uncrate it and get it in my house! It is a very nice piece of furniture. My collectibles do not show as much as they did on the glass/mirror curio. The shelves are very deep, but do not have a groove to hold platters in place. Also, very dark inside, even through it's placed by a window.Read More
I ordered 2 of these some time ago. I thought I would take a chance as I had been looking for curio cabinets for months and at every furniture store. I wanted something rustic but nice that would hold and display my collectibles and favorite things. I have no china cabinet or built in's like the home I moved from. The first 2 sent were damaged, but they sent replacements right away that came quickly and very well packaged. There was no damage and yes - per all the other reviews..they are extremely heavy!! They are beautiful. Although they look much darker in the picture and that is what I was hoping for, they are much lighter - more rustic with 2 tone wood. I love them. I would recommend them. They are also a great price.Read More
This piece is Beautiful. But let me tell you..It is HEAVY! Make sure you have many strong people to help move it! It is great quality and it arrived well packaged. Not one ding, scratch etc. I was a bit worried because it has so much glass, but it was well shipped.Read More
This cabinet is absolutely beautiful. It's definitely a statement piece. The wood has a great texture, and the stain is rich & dark. It came well packed. It is extremely heavy, so make sure you have several strong guys to lift it.Read More

Bookshelves Buying Guide
Despite the name, bookshelves are about more than just shelving books. Bookshelves make versatile solutions as free-standing dry food pantries, open dressers or displays dedicated to your knick-knacks and tchochkes. They quickly convert into china cabinets, media organizers or shoe storage. Whatever the case, the right bookcase goes miles toward making your home into the haven it should be.
Best Bookshelf Materials
It's not unusual for bookshelves to incorporate multiple materials for different features. If you haven't decided on wood, wood products, metal or glass bookshelves, look at their relative strengths and weaknesses. Look below to learn the best bookshelf materials. Wood: "Solid wood" is a common term for furniture made from lumber planks. Beware of making assumptions based on labels like "hardwood" and "softwood." Hardwoods are derived from deciduous trees and softwoods from coniferous trees; the terms don't connote their relative strengths. Balsa is a hardwood even though it is very soft, just as Douglas fir is a softwood even though it is very hard. They all make excellent, classic stock material for bookcases. Generally, harder woods are the heavier and more resistant to scratches. Still, softer woods, if treated correctly, will keep just as well as harder woods. Plywood: Made by stacking thin sheets -- "plies" -- of lumber and gluing them under pressure, plywood features grains that alternate direction for strength. Several grades are available, of differing cost. Top and bottom plies can be high-quality woods to create the appearance of fine woods, but edge veneer or molding is needed to complete the illusion. Particleboard: Wood chips glued together carry a much lower price tag than solid wood, and particleboard is denser and more uniform. It's a great choice when cost is the primary consideration. Bookshelves crafted from veneered composite boards can look and feel as good as real wood. MDF: Wood fibers, tiny chips and sawdust collected and glued into sheets form medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Low-cost MDF makes an excellent base for veneers; plus, its strength is consistent and it shapes well. Metal: There's a reason most library bookshelves are made from metal: Metal bookcases are resistant to moisture and fungus, their low-friction shelves are easier on books' bindings and metal's strength-to-weight ratio can't be beat. Their cost usually comes in below any other material. Glass: Glass bookshelves weigh more than other types, but if you plan on assembling your bookshelves only once, the style points can be well worth it. Tempered glass shelves (in wood or metal uprights, called "standards") give your home an unbeatable contemporary feel, and glass bookcases' smooth, transparent surfaces add brilliant levity to a decorating piece that might otherwise be notably opaque and heavy. FAQs about Bookshelves
No home is complete without a bookshelf. Bookshelves and bookcases are both beautiful and handy. They allow you to organize your books and knick-knacks in eye-pleasing and convenient ways. Best Materials for Cabinets
After deciding on the purpose and room for your new cabinet, it's time to think about material. As with all furniture, you will want to select a cabinet material depending on what you plan to use your cabinet for, as well as your personal taste. Take a look below to learn about the best materials for cabinets. Wood: The majority of cabinets produced are created with hard wood. Wood cabinets can be found in both traditional and contemporary designs. If you are hoping for durability in addition to design, no cabinet looks better and lasts longer than one manufactured using a solid wood. Cherry cabinets offer a sense of classic luxury while holding up to years of use. Oak cabinets conjure up the feel of subtle country beauty, and maple cabinets can look bright, modern and chic. Metal: Metal cabinets are terrific for those looking for a modern touch in their homes; most metal cabinets have a very forward-looking aesthetic, so they are perfect for a contemporary home. Metal cabinets are also great for home offices. Obviously, metal offers great durability, but it is vulnerable to dings and dents. Keep in mind that most metal cabinets have sharp corners, making them slightly less suitable for homes with kids running around. Glass: If you have something you feel like showing off, nothing is better for display purposes than a glass cabinet. These cabinets are certainly more fragile than those made from other materials, but they offer something other cabinets can't: transparency. Many glass cabinets are manufactured with built-in lighting systems to exhibit whatever you choose to place in them. Because of their show-off quality, glass cabinets are perfect for places you expect guests, such as the dining room and living room. Particle board: If you are shopping for a cabinet on a tight budget, looking into particle board cabinets is worthwhile. Particle board is a relatively new material produced by pressing wood particles together, which is then bound with synthetic resin. Furniture created with particle board is almost always the least expensive option and also the lightest, but you will sacrifice some durability. If you plan to move often, a particle board cabinet could be an ideal option. View All Furniture Back to Guides Directory View All Furniture
Best Bookshelves for Kids
Children's bookshelves and other kids' storage, as a rule, should be low to the ground. Furniture tip-overs have accounted for almost 15,000 childhood accidents each year from 1990 to 2007, according to the Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Children often reach for items on the top of bookshelves, causing tip-overs. With low-to-the-ground kids' storage, children can easily reach their favorite books without parents worrying about the furniture seriously injuring their child.
How to Measure an Office for Filing Cabinets
If you have to handle lots of important documents, filing cabinets are the best way to store and organize large amounts of documents in an easily accessible way. Businesses and homeowners alike can benefit from the way filing cabinets allow access to important documents in a matter of seconds. If you're buying new file cabinets for your home or office, keep in mind that deciding whether or not you want wood file cabinets or traditional metal file cabinets is not the only thing to consider. Choosing file cabinets that are the right size may seem like a straightforward process, but if you fail to take all important factors into consideration, you may wind up purchasing cabinets that you are unable to properly use. Take a look below to learn how to measure an office for filing cabinets.
How to Replace Old Cabinet Handles
Refinishing your old cabinets and updating the cabinet handles can give an old kitchen new life. Installing new cabinet handles or knobs is largely a matter of careful measuring. Measuring and drilling the holes properly can mean the difference between beautifully installed cabinet hardware and an unsightly hole with wood-filler in it. Here are some simple steps to make sure your cabinet knobs or handles look great.
How to Select a TV Cabinet
Watching movies, playing video games, enjoying the latest TV shows: When you're doing any of these things at home, you're looking at your television -- and whatever it sits on. A TV cabinet is furniture that is both functional and decorative. It will hold your media components and store some DVDs and games, too. To choose the best one for your living room, keep these tips in mind while you're shopping.
How to Organize Your DVDs
Many people love to collect favorite movies, programs and television shows on DVDs, whether it's a collection of classics, documentaries, children's movies or everything in between. Most people cherish their collection of DVDs, but you might not know it from the messy pile those DVDs make when shoved into a box or crammed haphazardly onto a shelf. If you've ever spent almost as much time searching for a movie as you have watching it, then it's probably time for you to organize your DVDs. Some attractive media bookshelves can be a great place to start.
How to Use a Belt Sander
A belt sander allows the operator to quickly sand the surface of a piece of wood with a minimum amount of physical effort. Because the belt sander is a power tool and the belt moves at such high speeds, it does not require as much pressure to strip off the top layer of the wood as it would if you were using a sheet of sandpaper. Belt sanders, like all power tools, are especially important for large home improvement projects, like building a deck or refinishing cabinets, because they can sand a lot of surface area very quickly.
How to Season a Wooden Salad Bowl
Wood salad bowls need to be seasoned to prevent drying and cracking. This is particularly important for serving bowls that are unfinished. If your bowl is properly cared for and cleaned, the seasoned flavor and fragrance of garlic and herbs will be preserved. Proper maintenance will result in a well-seasoned serving bowl, which will become more aromatic with age.
How to Remove Scratches from a Wooden Table
Scratches on wooden dining tables not only present an unsightly appearance; they leave the wood unprotected and open to staining and moisture. Scratches can be slight or deep, and removing each type requires a different method of repair. The finish of your wooden table also plays a part in how to remove the scratches, especially if the scratch is deep.
How to Care for Wooden Spoons
Wood has long been used for eating utensils, serving utensils and preparation tools. Wooden spoons are a cooking essential and also a beautiful addition to your kitchen and dining experience. On the practical side, these lightweight yet strong utensils are great for tossing salads and serving everything from mashed potatoes to green beans. Wooden spoons are also the perfect preparation tools for use with nonstick pans. Cleaning and general care of wooden spoons differs, however, from the cleaning and care of metal utensils. Wood expands in water, so soaking the spoons in dishwater is generally not advised. Aside from a few basic rules of care, however, it is not difficult to keep wooden spoons looking like new.

Entertainment Center Buying Guide
While your television set may be the focal point of your home entertainment activities, what it sits on -- or in -- says a lot about who you are. Home entertainment centers have been around a long time and have evolved quite a bit from the massive wooden cabinets of the 1960s and 1970s. Which entertainment center is right for you will depend on what you want to use it for, the components you want it to store and your personal taste in furniture.
How to Season Wooden Spoons Before Use
Wooden spoons offer many benefits when used as preparation tools when cooking and baking. Wooden spoons are sturdy enough to mix even the thickest ingredients and yet gentle enough to avoid scraping your non-stick cookware. Wooden spoons have health benefits as well, since wood is naturally resistant to many types of bacteria. Before you use wooden spoons, you should season them according to the manner in which you intend to use them. This will help them last longer, repel odors and perform even better.
