As an interior designer and an owner of three dogs, I can't say enough about seagrass. It's indestructable, if you get a stain...just take it outside and hose it off with detergent and a stiff broom, then it let dry in the sun. As for the smell? It's dry grass folks, similar to hay and will soon fade completely away. Suitable for all types of interior styles. You'll love it! And the price in unbeatable.
OMG - I LOVE this rug. It installs easily and comes with a sturdy non-skid backing so you don't even have to think of buying a pad to go under it. Seems extremely well made. Every once in a while the aroma of new mown grass wafts up from it, too, putting me in mind of a sunny summer afternoon in the country, a strange contrast to the episode of Law & Order we're riveted to at the moment. This hasn't changed in over two weeks since we got it, so if you're anti-grass (the lawn kind), better think twice. Otherwise - go for it. Our guests approved too - in fact they also loved it. I'll get another one as soon as I figure out a place for it.
This is the second time I have purchased this rug. We use it under our kitchen table and it is extremely durable. We have three small boys and it really can get messy. We threw our last one away, but I think I probably would have been able to spray wash it with the hose as another reviewer mentioned. I just did not want to hassle with that and for the price, it was just as easy to buy a fresh new one! We do not mind the smell and it goes away after the first day. I plan to purchase another one once my boys make a mess of this one as I am sure they will!
I spent a long time with online help trying to decide on a rug. I wanted a natural rug that would be soft enough to sit on. I was advised that the seagrass was the softest. Well, it's not soft at all, infact very hard, and not good for sitting or exercising. I love the look, and the smell, and durability, but was hoping, and looking for a softer rug. The rug is very well made, the border leaves a little to be desired. Mine had some dirt/marks on the border. The green is chartruese, not lime, or olive.
I actually put this rug outside, It gets rained on and dries beautifully in the sun. It makes for a cozy outside area.
The rug has a strong smell when you first take it out of the plastic, but air it out a few days and it will dissipate. This rug is great if you're looking for something low-maintenance and high quality. It's not super comfortable to walk on, though. I have mine under the dining room table because it's durable and doesn't stain easily (as least from what I can see). This is actually the second of these I've purchased and have been very happy with both!
This is a great rug. It is beautiful and durable. I think the smell of the grass is very pleasant but, it dissapaited quickly for those who don't care for it. The rug is exactly as pictured and it looks great in my office. I just love it. Not for walking on barefoot.
Overall I like the rug. I think it is best for an outdoor patio or somewhere shoes are going to be worn. It is quite uncomfortable on bare feet or knees. Also after about a month, it is starting to have pieces sticking up that poke and I have had a couple splinters from it.
I have received the area rugs. I ordered the red border for the living room and brown border for the office. Am very pleased with both. In fact so pleased that I reordered the black border for the hallway. These are not for walking barefoot, but they are very pleasing to the eye and fit in with my lifestyle, look great with wood or laminate flooring.
This natural seagrass rug was purchased in early spring of this year for my kitchen. It has held up quite well. Cleaning it is no problem at all. I did not find the "natural" odor of the seagrass to be offensive at all; it is strong upon arrival, but it quickly dissipates within days. I would give this item a high recommendation to those looking for an area rug of this style & type.
I bought this rug because I have aging pets that have accidents. You can just hose off this rug and you are good to go.
What a fabulous rug for a more than fabulous price! I think it's perfect, my only recommendation is not take the colors on the web for what they are. I ordered natural and it's more of a taupe color than the light cream it appears (at least to me) on the web. I would suggest to assume the colors are darker than they appear.
IT FIT PERFECT IN MY BEACH THEME ROOM, I REALLY ENJOY THE LOOK OF IT ON MY TILE FLOOR, AND THE SMELL OF THE SEAGRASS IS ENJOYABLE. IT LOOKS THE SAME AS IT DID ON THE COMPUTER, AND IT ARRIVED IN THE TIME FRAME IT SAID.
I like this rug fine, unfortunately, so did my dogs who thought they needed to potty on it!

I ordered this and an 8'x10' matching rug. Sizes were accurate and the quality is very good. It took a week for them to lie flat and there is a slight "hay" smell which I like. Over all, great price and great quality!

I have these rugs in all of the rooms in my house and camp. They look good and are very durable. They feel great underfoot (especially barefoot). They are easy to clean with a simple floor brush attachment. My cat threw up on one and it was remarkably easy to clean. The best part is the smell: like sweetgrass or green tea right out of the bag. When the sun hits them or it is a bit humid, the smell is renewed. I love them and will never have another floor covering in their place. I hope that Overstock.com will continue to inventory this product.

I am very happy with my basketweave seagrass rug. If you are in the market for a natural fiber rug, you really cannot beat the quality and price. This rug looks wonderful on my sunporch and has the added bonus of smelling delightful each time I step into the room. Now I am looking for a rug for my dining room, and may just get the exact one, just larger. Overstock is awesome.
We ordered the basketweave seagrass area rug in a larger size for our living room about a year ago. It arrived quickly and has held up beautifully. Any spills we have had were easily and quickly cleaned with no staining. The rug had a fresh sea air smell, which went away within a couple of weeks. Being so happy with the initial purchase, we bought a second rug in a smaller size for our kitchen. Again, it arrived quickly and was exactly what we expected. The seagrass on the second rug is a little darker in color, but I expect it will lighten up over time. The green border is soft and neutral. The stitching is strong and secure. Seagrass will hold up in high traffic areas quite well, but is not easy to walk on in bare feet. I love our seagrass rugs and Overstock.com!
This is the third rug I have bought like this. With dogs and kids, I can't believe how well these have withstood the traffic my home has. Not so comfy on bare feet, but who cares when it stays put due to the rubber backing and it seems nothing affects it. Buy one...you won't regret it!
This rug rivals one I bought at another online store for QUITE a bit more money. The bag was a little torn and a small area on the border was dirtied - just a tiny 1/4" dot, but not sure if it will come out Not a huge problem as I just stuck that part underneath the baseboard heater anyway. If I'd gone with a darker border I wouldn't have even seen it, actually. The smell does go away, and in my opinion, much too soon. The smell of seagrass is LOVELY and I wish they could bottle it. I'd use it as a room freshener. It is hay-like but a little different. YUM. I recommend this rug wholeheartedly. Also, I wash mine - it is SEAgrass and can get wet. I take mine outside, use some mild dish soap and a brush and a hose. Hang it on a length of PVC we bungee to my my fence. You do have to move it around a bit while it dries or you'll get a bump that's hard to flatten. First time we did it, we let it stay out there on the same spot for a couple of days and we're still getting the bump out. It's very forgiving. Just be sure not to pull it on the fence, or you'll rip the latex backing! Gotta lift it up and move it.
