The holes for the screws to connect the top shelves and bottom cabinet are too big. Basically you just couldn't joint the two pieces together. We ended up with wood glue.
The tower arrived safely and was packaged well. There was one missing screw, but I did not have time to send it back and wait for another. So we improvised and used carpenter glue for every dowel. I am glad we did because the construction is a little rickety. The finish is nice and looks nice where I put it. However, the width of the upper shelves was measured at the outside and functionally the space is about 2 inches smaller. This is important because the table fountain I ordered to sit on the shelf barely fits as opposed to fitting gracefully. The door magnet is strong and it is important to hold the tower while opening it or you will topple the whole thing. In all, its close enough to what I needed that I will keep it, but I am sorry I paid as much as I did.
This tower has to be put together entirely from scratch which is, of course, why it is so inexpensive. This would not be a problem if the pre-drilled holes were in the correct places--as it is, the bottom pieces (bottom cabinet) on mine did not come together snugly and I actually had to secure it with duct tape to prevent it from collapsing before I could get the door and back on. The door and back are what will, mainly, keep the bottom portion in the correct shape, as it wants to slew from side to side without them. This is due to the fact that the pre-drilled holes for several of the pegs did not line up, making it impossible to use anything more than the screws. Strangely, the bottom cabinet is the flimsiest part of the cabinet--the shelves on top feel comparatively solid, and I couldn't help but wonder why they'd make such a shoddy cabinet so top heavy...it is *very* top heavy, and you'll need to fill the bottom with your heaviest items and save the lighter items for the upper shelves. It also comes with a tacky white strap that you are instructed to loop around the top of the cabinet and screw into the wall, to prevent the flimsy thing from toppling right over. For goodness' sake, do not purchase this if you have young children, as the slightest touch threatens to send it crashing down.
I recently remodeled my bathroom and I have exactly 11 inches on each side of the vanity for shelving. The product description states this is 10.63 inches wide, it is actually 12 inches wide because the shelves extend out. Now I have not1, but 2 shelving units that I cannot use. Not very happy.
