although the fireplace itself is of good quality and workmanship, the cost of the fuel has turned the fireplace into a conversation piece. If you can afford the fuel and can stand the smoke (yes you can smell the gel burning when you stand up in the same room as the fireplace) it would be a great deal. But between the cost of the gel and the smell of the burning gel, which gives my wife headaches, this fireplace probably won't continue burning in my house.

This fireplace actually requires assembly, not shipped as a whole product like in the picture. Overstock.com should have clearly let customers know about the assembly. I thought that I would receive a big box of the entire fireplace, instead, I was surprised when UPS delivered two big cartons, one for the firebox and the other for the mantel. The assembly process is painful; the instruction pages show tiny pictures and confusing steps. The hardware pieces (nuts, bolts, cam-locks, etc) were of mediocre quality and I have a hard time making them locked tightly. Unless you are VERY skilled and handy with assembling furniture, you should not get it. Some pieces of wood did not even have the pre-screwed holes like in the instruction, and I had to make some educated guess and drilled some holes by myself. I thought I was familiar with assembly in general, but assembling this product still took me good 3 hours! I have to be fair, after the assembly was done, the fireplace is a nice looking piece of decorative furniture which is also very functional if you get the right kind of gel fuel. I do enjoy the warm and cozy feeling of having this fireplace in my living room now. For occasional usage, it sure is an affordable alternative to having a real wood fireplace or gas fueled fireplace. I just wish they could be clearer in the assembly instruction, and I also hope the Overstock.com will put some big warning about the assembly; otherwise, some customers out there will find it very annoying to receive boxes of wood and metal pieces!

I've always wanted a fireplace. I just love my gel fireplace. It produces just enough heat with two cans of fuel to take the chill off the room. I'm sure if I put a little fan near it it would be even warmer. I find the fireplace so relaxing and comforting. And there's no cleanup. I bought the model with a screen because I have cats and wanted to be sure they didn't get burned. It just works perfectly. I saw a similar model to the one I bought for $499 so I know I got a great deal.
