Yes, it is easier to put together with 2 people. Yes, the "antiquing" is cheesy, but is easily fixable and not too noticable. Yes, the directions are poorly written, but it was not too difficult to put together in maybe 45 min-1 hour with good gluing (used my own wood glue, the little container they send is very small) and 2 people. After that it is fairly sturdy, it is cute next to the door to hold shoes and pocket junk in a bowl I set on top. I don't think that the measurements they have posted on here are right, but luckily it fits the space even better than I thought it would. The actual measurements once assembled are 32 1/8in tall, 34 1/4in wide, 15in deep, and the top shelf panel is 9 3/4in deep x 34 1/4in wide.

  • solid wood piece

I was looking for solid wood furniture, and this is exactly what this is. The bookshelf is exactly as pictured. I'm so sick of particle board furntiure and so I was very pleased when I could see the wood grains through the paint. It was a little annoying putting it together. The directions give you one big picture for all the steps at once and so it was a confusing, but I figured it out.

  • The assembly isn't THAT bad.

After reading the reviews I was a bit worried about the assembly. The booklet even says that you need 2 people to put it together (I'm pretty sure they didn't mean an adult and a 2 year old). I put it together without another adult though and did not find it necessary to have any assistance. It only took me about 30 minutes to put this together, and that time would have been less if my 2 year old had not "helped" me. It is sturdy and attractive.

  • Bookcase

This bookcase is NOT all wood......it's mostly made of MDF(medium density fiberboard)..........VERY DISAPPOINTING and the price is too high. Overstock this is a bummer..................

  • Great Little Black Bookcase!

I love this bookcase! The design is interesting and assembly was NOT as difficult as others have stated - no more so than any ready to assemble furniture. The "antiquing" is the only thing that MAY be a bit disappointing...I thought it would be more obvious and it is truly quite subtle. The quality of this piece is as good if not better than some ready to assemble pieces that I have purchased from national brand stores. Overall...I am VERY happy with this fabulous bookcase!

  • This bookshelf is way overrated!

Just finished putting this bookcase together. You definitely need two people and lots of patience. Solid wood? No way. Directions are hard to read (print quality) and semi - accurate. The engineering of the holes and the assigned parts for same is not precise leading to difficulty in the assembly; e.g. the dowels in some cases did not fit the holes properly which required one to use a rubber mallet to ensure a proper fit however when inserted, to the half way point of the dowel, some actually punctured the "solid wood" finish on the fronting side. There were at least a four such instances. Overall; the bookshelf is a nice design implemented poorly. Message to Overstock: I would have returned this item however the hassle/cost ratio isn't worth it... so it will find a place in the "out of the way"! Should be discontinued or contact the supplier and have them get in touch with the Vietnamese builders and get them to re-engineer the thing!

  • just a few more books

This little book case fits nicely in a hallway to hold the extra books I couldn't find room for. I put it together all by myself by leaning it against the foot of my bed. The directions are somewhat complex. I looked very closely at the drawings BEFORE putting the pieces together. I made one mistake which I left uncorrected. Most steps can be undone. However where the wood screws are used, I would advise being very certain that you have the pieces lined up correctly. (There are no pre-drilled holes for these., but the diagram has them labelled.) The mistake I made was near the first step. The holes in parts A and B should not be in plain view when the piece is fully assembled. I should have flipped part A over before inserting the wood screws connecting it to part B. I believe the books will obscure these holes so I won't notice them. Make certain that all parts are used and be aware that there may be one or two extra parts in the package. It required some patience to keep up with the nuts. As I moved the piece around they would fall out. You can not get a stable piece of furniture if the nuts aren't used properly. Once the piece was correctly assembled it was very sturdy. The pegs for covering the screw heads need to be glued lightly and then tapped in until they are almost flush. I used a wooden mallet. Be careful not to damage the finish at this final stage. (There was plenty of glue for the project if you use it sparingly. Glue isn't what holds the piece together.) My book case is black and it appears to have a very durable finish.

  • So-so-book shelf

The unit was easy to assemble other than the V shaped shelf. We had use our own screws in order to get that part to stay together. The finish in my opinion is not "antique" but more like "sloppy". Not impressed - but it serves the purpose of holding small flat screen in bedroom. I would not use in my living room because of the rather poor quality. In a store where I could see the item before purchasing, I would not have paid this price for the bookshelf.

  • Just What I needed.

This bookcase arrived quickly. The assembly took less than half an hour. Wood glue was also provided and I used that to provide extra strength to the top shelf. I put this in my bedroom to hold some of my books and put it along side the spa chair (also purchased from Overstocks) I had been looking for an angled shelf book case like this for a while. The others I have found from ******* and ******** were easily three times the cost of this. Great value, stylish different looking book case.
