    • solid wood piece

      I was looking for solid wood furniture, and this is exactly what this is. The bookshelf is exactly as pictured. I'm so sick of particle board furntiure and so I was very pleased when I could see the wood grains through the paint. It was a little annoying putting it together. The directions give you one big picture for all the steps at once and so it was a confusing, but I figured it out.

      Yes, it is easier to put together with 2 people. Yes, the "antiquing" is cheesy, but is easily fixable and not too noticable. Yes, the directions are poorly written, but it was not too difficult to put together in maybe 45 min-1 hour with good gluing (used my own wood glue, the little container they send is very small) and 2 people. After that it is fairly sturdy, it is cute next to the door to hold shoes and pocket junk in a bowl I set on top. I don't think that the measurements they have posted on here are right, but luckily it fits the space even better than I thought it would. The actual measurements once assembled are 32 1/8in tall, 34 1/4in wide, 15in deep, and the top shelf panel is 9 3/4in deep x 34 1/4in wide.

    • Great Little Black Bookcase!

      I love this bookcase! The design is interesting and assembly was NOT as difficult as others have stated - no more so than any ready to assemble furniture. The "antiquing" is the only thing that MAY be a bit disappointing...I thought it would be more obvious and it is truly quite subtle. The quality of this piece is as good if not better than some ready to assemble pieces that I have purchased from national brand stores. Overall...I am VERY happy with this fabulous bookcase!

      This bookcase is NOT all wood......it's mostly made of MDF(medium density fiberboard)..........VERY DISAPPOINTING and the price is too high. Overstock this is a bummer..................

      My SO and I put this together in about an hour - not the easiest assembly I've ever attempted, but reasonably straightforward. The finished product is solid and looks great - very retro cool. As usual, service from Overstock was outstanding - the item was promptly shipped and delivered in good shape.

    • Great for shoe storage in entryway

      I'm really glad I happened upon this bookshelf. I'd been looking online and in stores for months trying to find something to use to store shoes in my foyer. I considered storage benches, benches with cubbies, cabinets, small tables etc. This bookshelf is just the right size and dimension and really suits my purpose. I actually like that shoes are visible but can be lined up neatly - this makes it less likely that they'll pile up, hide and multiply (we have shoe storage elsewhere too). Being visible also suggests to guests that they may take off their shoes. We don't insist, but most often they remove their shoes because they see we do. The top shelf is a nice place to put a few decorative items. My entryway looks a thousand times better now that there's not a pile of shoes in a boot tray.

      • How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Mostly as expected. Black, with woodgrain showing through. Although a few edges are reddish/wood colored - appears to have been lightly or "antiqued"
      • Please tell us about the quality of the product. Very good quality. Only complaint is that there's an angled seam on the top surface where it appears 2 pieces of wood connect. I can live with it, particularly considering the price and purpose.

    • Great little bookself for a reasonable price

      I am a long time Overstock customer and this little bookshelf did not disappoint me. It is well built, made out of wood and engineered so it is sturdy enough for it's intended use. The finish is nice and putting it together was not difficult. I did need my husband's help, but even he thought it was a good deal.

    • This is a perfect little shelf

      I needed a place to put my piano music and this was perfect.. the spine sits so I can easily read the back of every book and it had just the right amount of room. The color is either black or a very deep expresso and it is perfect next to my black piano. It was easy to put together, is all wood. no particle board. I love this piece and the price was just ridiculous.

    • This bookshelf is so classy looking!

      I bought this bookshelf to go in my bedroom to put a new 36 inch flat screen TV on. The TV fits perfectly on the top shelf and the bookshelf looks really classy in the room. I really love this piece of furniture. It is a good quality piece, was easy to assemble and the price could not be beat. All in all I was totally impressed with it.
