The sofa comes in 2 packages: one for the bottom metal frame and pillow cushions; and one for the rest (top) of the sofa. I was nervous when the packages arrived because both boxes were damaged. The items were not protected very well (the frame was wrapped in thin bubble wrap and put in the box while the top portion of the sofa was wrapped in plastic and put in a box) but the items were not damaged. You definitely need two people to assemble the sofa because the metal frame is heavy and awkward to lift. It comes with an allen wrench and 8 allen screws - that's all you need to assemble the sofa. (I would recommend unpacking the contents outside and bring the items to an open assembly area.) The instructions are hard to read (light) but accurate. To assemble, all you need to do is place the two mattresses upside down at 45 degree angles. Pull the sides of the frame out so you can also rotate the top metal plates 45 degrees. Align the screw holes in the mattresses to the holes on the metal plates. Screw in the 8 allen screws. That's it. With 2 people, it took me less than 30 minutes to assemble the sofa. Once done it looks GREAT! Pulling out the mattresses allows you to swivel, which feels very solid. I sat on the sofa to work on my laptop for a few hours and I thought the sofa was comfortable. I have not slept on it yet but I'm fine with the firm mattress. If you don't like it too firm then I would recommend one of those Memory Foam Sofa Sleeper Mattress (available on this site).

A friend has this sofa and I've slept on it a couple of time on a visit. It is very firm, nothing that a memory-foam mattress pad can't remedy. I love the color, the size (perfect to a small room as a guest bed), and the easy-to-care for fabric. What I didn't love is the utter lack of clear assembly instructions, and it really does require a lot of space and two people to put it together due to the need for the cushions to be at an angle when you first attach them to the base. Additionally, there is no clear way of knowing what direction the base should be attached to the cushions. Something better than Ikea-esque instructions would have been greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'm happy with this purchase.
I got the Anise Red Convertible Sofa/ Bed a couple of weeks ago and I love it. This sofa is extremely versatile. I was skeptical about getting a red sofa initially, but the sofa's flexibility had me sold. I can use this sofa as a bed, two individual beds, individual swivel chairs, a coffee table, and much more. There are so many possibilities with this sofa, that I can hardly contain myself. The versatility is great, but the comfortable nature of the sofa is even better. I can lounge and relax on this sofa for hours at a time. I did have to assemble the sofa, but it was fairly easy.
Decent sofa bed, however, there were no assembly instructions included. Although assembly is easy, I did not want to put this together without instructions in hand. I tried getting help through online chat - very frustrating experience. The online chat rep was unhelpful, used broken (written) English), and tried blowing me off. Finally got the help I needed after calling - but they could not help me over the phone. The rep had to "open a ticket" in order for me to get the instructions. Ultimately, the instructions arrived a week after the sofa bed. I bought the sofa bed because my parents were town. Unfortunately I could not use the sofa bed because of the assembly instructions issue. Very frustrating. The sofa bed is very cleverly designed with its swivel seats and different configuration options. Construction quality seems very average and I would expect a little better given the price. Cushions are very firm, and some may find it uncomfortable. I would have rating this a 3 or 4 if not for the bad customer experience.
I used this futon in my dorm room last year, and it worked out really well! The size is perfect and it looks pretty chic.
Overall I am very pleased with the sofa. It fits perfectly with my small studio apartment. I just wish the sofa was a little softer. It's not comfortable at all. Wether you're sitting or using it as a bed, it feels like you're sitting on wood.It looks great though.I am just amazed that nobody mentioned that this sofa is not comfortable when I read the reviews before I bought it.
I bought this for extra sitting and sleeping and I must say I love it! It not only looks good, my mother said she had a great nights sleep on it. Definitely glad I bought it.
The convertible sofa is a great choice for those needing flexibility. The style is also modern, which I love. The item arrived within 3 weeks of ordering and everything was ok. The assembly was easy. The instruction call for 2 persons with a working table but I assemble it by myself without a table within 30 mins. Just need to be a little creative. :-) The red is a bit darker than in the photos. Also, the sofa ONLY locks in 2 positions (depends on how you assemble it). THe seat either locked in the front and back position or the facing each other and away or any variations of the two. The height is high enough for a Roomba to fit under, but mine get stuck at one or two spot underneath where some parts extend lower.
this sofa is great, you get two twin beds or one queen/king bed. i just added a thick mattress pad and it is very comfortable. if you look on the back and unzip the cushion the legs to make a bed are folded inside. you can also recline in several positions. the sofa is also great if you have more than one focal point in your room, both sections swivel all the way around, they also lock to become one unit as sofa or bed. we love this piece and the look is very contemporary, modern.
Mine unfortunately came with a small tear in one of the cushions and it is too expensive to ship back but I used one of those upholstery repair kits and now it just looks like the corner was scuffed, the packaging was not very good and I heard the delivery guy slam it on my porch so who knows when it was torn but otherwise, it is awesome, looks great and functions as described so as long as that repair works and the tear does not return I am very satisfied.

This couch is great for a Den where you might need an extra bed for a guest. I would recommend getting a topper if you do need to use it as a bed since the foam is very stiff and not super comfortable. Not a couch for your everyday leisure but I use it in an office and it's perfect!

Really works well in a small NYC apartment. Very versatile, unobtrusive, and a comfortable sleeping option, especially with a mattress topper! Make sure to read the instructions before assembling though as it can be a bit tedious. Much easier with 2 people!
I love the color of red, so when I have seen this amazing Anise Red Convertible Sofa/ Bed on Overstock I had to buy it. This convertible sofa is not only elegant, high class with high quality and style but is extremely practical. It can be used as a comfortable sofa at daytime and it can be easily converted to a bed when guests arrive. My living room has a great look with this amazing anise red functional sofa that I have purchased on a great price. Thank you Overstock.
Hey it's pretty common for reviews on here and other websites to say that it is only a chaise and not a bed and there aren't any legs to hold the bottom up. In truth the legs fold out and are hidden behind a zipper in the seam. You can use it as a chaise and let the bottom slope down if you want or you can fold out the legs and make it a bed. It is horizontal when the legs are folded out. Apparently this item has crappy directions that make it confusing to assemble and use so people might not know what is hidden in the seam. I don't own this item yet because I am saving up for it (trying to get off credit cards) but I shopped it in person at the now closed Tiny Living shop in NYC.
This couch is the most versatile I have seen. I love the fact that it splits, swivels, has a table in between, reclines, becomes a bed, etc. Very modern/contemporary look and stylish. The material is nice and thick, and the red color is very fashionable. This couch is great in a den or guest bedroom. I would highly recommend this couch to whoever is looking for something different and unique, not too big or too small. If set up as a one-piece, you would probably be able to fit three. I keep it separated with the table in between, and it's just right for two. I haven't had anyone sleep over since I've had it, so I can't comment on how comfortable it is to sleep on, but I would imagine it's fine. Overall, I gave it a 5-Star rating.
Amazing little sofa and bed. I bought this charming anise color convertible sofa for my small living room and it looks great. The room is full of color and it is almost alive. This sofa is the centerpiece of the room, which is understandable. It has great design and style, it is large enough o sit and sleep on and is extremely comfortable. This is my favorite sofa so far.
My little girl is obsessed with the red color and as we were renovating her room we were looking for a red bed. After searching we found this anise red convertible sofa and I fell in love with it. It combines versatility with comfort, giving the modern and vibrant atmosphere I was searching for. It was easy to assemble and it looks perfect. I think I will buy one for my office too.
Beautiful piece of furniture. Relatively easy to assemble. Requires a bit of space around it to make all of its possible positions useful; we have it up against a wall and have to move it away from the wall to get the reclining or bed position. As a guest bed, got complaints that it was too hard to sleep on; so I have a topper available to use on when it's being used as a bed.
This is a substantial piece of furniture and has style and versatility, and a good price to boot. Very pleased w/ my purchase.
I looked around quite a bit before ordering this sofa because I was looking for a contemporary, well-made and convertible sofa to go into a small space that serves as a media room and extra bedroom. I love the color and the look of the sofa. The red is more of a tomato red and the fabric is nubby with either brown or black fibers woven in. The sofa frame is sturdy. The assembly was a bit challenging because I did not have a table space large enough to assemble it as the directions suggest AND the written directions are unclear. Either way, two people are needed to assemble it. Each side of the sofa pulls out into either a full chaise lounge (not a bed - there are no legs to hold the bottom of the chaise up to form a bed but the back is adjustable) or two separate chaises or swiveling chairs with a floor height coffee table between them. My one complaint is that the padding on the chairs may not be dense enough - I noticed when I had company last week that the seats sink in the middle and they don't bounce back very quickly either. Still, I like the sofa and its convertible options - good color, good look - overall, I am very satisfied, I just wish the seats were denser.
