AmCOR 14000E Review
from Redmond, WA,  Aug 10, 2007

I do have a few things to say about this product. It functions quite well and we are pleased with it. However, I found the picture to be slightly misleading, I expected the unit to be not a deep as it is (it's about 16in). Also, Amcor doesn't appear to be offering a $100 rebate as the item title mentions, but instead a $50 one (but hey, I'll take any rebate I can get). And lastly, this unit is so powerful it requires a 20amp household circuit instead of the standard 15amp ones. Because of this we have to run extension cords from the dryer outlet (which is 20amp) to power it. It would have been nice to know this up front when ordering as it might have directed us to a different model as a 20amp requirement certainly lessens the 'portability' we were looking for. However, having said all that we really have enjoyed it and the 2.95 shipping from Overstock really can't be beat. Just wished we'd had all the details.

Cools the room but it's sort of a pain
from San Francisco, CA,  Sep 18, 2007

Well, for the price I don't think they have this one figured out. If you rely on draining the water by hand with the little bucket thing they supply you will be draining it continuously all day long and getting water all over your floor in the process. You really must go out and get a drain hose and have it drain to the outdoors, however; the directions state that the hose has to be lower than the unit and since the drain is at the bottom of the unit it does pose a problem and the water backs up a lot. All that said, it does cool the room down... but you need to weigh the pros and cons and since it is EXTREMELY heavy it is not worth it to send back. This is the first disappointment I've had on overstock.

Great Freestanding Airconditioner.
from Arlington, VA,  Sep 10, 2007

This unit replaced a 8600 BTU window unit from 1994. So a 14000 BTU was an upgrade to say the least. The exhaust tube was a bit strange, but finally figured it out. Unit came with a nice remote and a pretty long power cord with a built in GFI. Even though you get a little drain bucket to empty the water it generates, I've never used it. Get this: The water it collects from the air is pumped over the compressor coils, (High Pressure/Hot Side), and is then exhausted out the hose!. A pretty neat setup. Another nice feature is the variable fan function, it runs on high when it is far away from the set temperature, and as it get close to the set temp, the fan starts to slow down. There is some elaborate timer function that allows you to have it come on at certain points around the clock, but I have not had a chance to play with it. I could have spent much more and was very happy to find this unit at Overstock.com. $2.50 to ship a 80 pound unit from NYC to VA was a great deal to me, plus it had a $100.00 rebate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it does not die in 7 months like my LG Dishwasher!!

Stay Cool While Looking Cool!
from Seattle, WA,  Aug 9, 2007

This is the second time I have purchased the AMCOR 14000E. The first time I purchased a unit for use where I am employeed & loved it so much that I turned around and bought 2 for my house. This machine is SLICK! Very contemporary design - truly a world of difference between it and one of those ugly window box models or their cousins the traditional cube shaped portable models. But great looks are just the beginning with this baby. Within moments of turning the unit on you feel RELIEF from the heat. When I surprised my wife with these, I could almost feel the room heat up. --she thought buying more than one was completely unnecessary -- until I turned it on and she let out a huge sigh, exclaiming "Wow, I'll be able to sleep at night!" Three fan speeds allow you to chose the level of breeze you desire & a digital thermostat ensures that the temperature is maintained. All other things being equal, this unit does something that very few others do......it evaporates water normally collected in a tank (which has to be manually emptied at regular intervals) and sends it out the hot air exhaust hose! I imagine that if you are using this unit in a HIGH humidity climate that you might have to use the drain feature built into the back of the machine - but I have yet to have to manually drain any of the 3 machines I bought and I have been running them for 12 hours a day - every day since I got them. The units require minor assembly (you have to attach the hose to the window kit for venting purposes) which took me less than 30 minutes. The hardest part is waiting the required 2 hours after unpacking your unit before turning it on - you HAVE to allow the coolent to settle for it to work properly. This is like giving a kid a Christmas present, allowing him to open it and then telling him that he can only look at it for the next two hours! Don't worry though - all manufacturers have the same requirement. My only gripe would be that the included remote control is a very basic model and while it does work, it is not easy to use. The contrast used in labeling the buttons is very low & ideally it should be back lit. That said - the remote is really unncessary and is more of a marketing bell & whistle. I just set the unit to the desired temperature and walk away. I have one unit in my bedroom and one in our nursery - and while they do make noise, I just keep them on the lowest fan setting and no one (even the baby) is bothered by them while we sleep.

Not all that worth it
from Belmont, CA,  Oct 21, 2011

I really liked how much cold air this device put out, if one can stand the noise factor. It is pretty loud, but considering it was keeping the room cool, I cannot complain. This device was used only in the hot days of 2009 and 2010, an average of 40 days per year. At the end of the 2010 season, it developed a bad knocking and went down for good for 2011. It was never abused, so for that amount of $$ I could have paid a bit more for a machine that works longer. I have an older Sunpentown and it still works like a charm.

Broken After One Summer
from New York , NY,  Jan 1, 2009

I purchased two of these units to cool my 350sqft bedroom and my 500sqft livingroom. Both units performed well out of the box and are quite aesthetically pleasing. Amcors nanomist technology was nice at first because it vaporizes the water collection as the air is dehumidified. However, at the end of ONE NYC summer, the dehumidifier in BOTH units broke and I had to manually drain the unit 2-3 times a day (there is a small chamber that collects the little water that the unit when working properly does not vaporize withthe nanomist technology). In addition, one of the cooling compressors leaked, releasing all of the freon and rendered the unit unusable. Both units were covered under warranty, but the 22 days it took was a HUGE inconvenience and HOT to say the least. I DO NOT recommend purchasing this product!!!

Cools nicely but
 from FK\L,  Sep 5, 2007

It cools nicely. But very very difficult to empty water. the scoop that is provided does not prevent leakage onto your floor/carpet. I would like to send it back as it is so difficult to sit on the floor and try to drain it out every day without making a terrible mess. The vent at the top does not stay open, it falls back into the unit and shoots the cool air in a different direction than intended. It would cost too much to mail it back I'm afraid.

Could be better
from Edmonds, WA,  Aug 13, 2007

I thought the product would put out cooler air than it did. Perhaps my room is too large, I will try it again when it gets warmer.
