I purchased the memory foam topper to put on top of our boat's foam mattress. Our boat is 20 years old and the mattress is original and generally still in good condition, but I could feel the board under it when laying on my side. I had used a feather bed on top of the mattress for several years, but this memory foam topper is much better. I paid attention to the density when searching for a topper and this one is perfect for my application. I had considered getting a three inch one, but decided on the two inch thickness and it is wonderfully comfortable and I no longer feel the board under the mattress. Even my husband commented on the comfort and he usually doesn't like the feel of sleeping on a memory foam topper. We happily disposed of the feather bed! Good thing as I just found out I am allergic to feathers.

I bought this to soften the new mattress my husband and I bought. He loves it, but once I slept on it I realized the mattress was really too hard. (Simmons Beautyrest World Class, "Plush Firm" comfort level with the heavier coil gauge of 13 1/4" for those of you who are wondering the specifics of the mattress)This topper was the perfect level of softness--I definitely felt cushioned, with a sort of pleasant sinking sensation. Prior to the topper I was always getting a numb feeling on my hip and shoulder when laying on the new mattress--but now that feeling is completely gone.It definitely has a smell when it arrives--I aired it out for a day outside which has pretty much eliminated it, not to mention that I put it under our waterproof mattress pad so any remaining smell wouldn't permeate--so be prepared to wait a day or two before you can use it.The price on Overstock was definitely better than anywhere else I searched.
